@ Aldrea: Yeah, well, in the movie Dren gets its name because it's NERD spelled backwards. Apparently the writers were not Farscape fans. >.>
Okay, seems I'm the first person to comment whose seen the movie! Here goes:
Well, as a horror enthusiast, I found it more of a horror-comedy than anything. Yeah, the advertisements make it seem so overly melodramatic, but from the getgo the movie itself sets more of a dark humor tone. The movie of course deals with the moral repercussions of messing with gene splicing technology, and to me the whole movie is almost Crichton-esque. It's not just a monster movie, but a tale about an experiment "for the betterment of human kind" gone wrong almost on the same page as Jurassic Park. But the movie is way more like a satire while JP was more of a drama.
I warn all who want to see it that the movie is pretty sex heavy. I'm not going to say much more about it, but if you're really uncomfortable with two humans having sex together, don't go see it. However, if you have even the slightest human-with-a-non-human fetish, this is the movie for you! >.> The only reason I was uncomfortable with it was because I was seeing Adrian Brody's fifteen foot tall butt. Personally, I am okay with sex scenes as long as everybody's kibbles and bits are at least mostly covered.
Overall, I'd give it an okay. The awkward sex scenes aside, the movie has had me thinking off and on since I've seen it because a lot of the ideas in it had been driving my science loving mind up the wall. Pretty predictable plot though, and plenty foreshadowing. Lots slower pace than the previews would have you think, but the entire movie has an intensity to it that makes up pretty adequately for the relative slowness of the plot line. However, I'm first to admit that it's not the best movie I've ever seen, but definately worth at least renting when it comes to DVD or for going to the matinee.
