Big Tv Networks Screwing the Character Names!
 

Lately I have been watching the animated Teen Titans and Young Justice. For some reason the people that create the show are renaming Robin to Richard Grayson. Correct me if i am wrong but Robin's name in the Batman comics is Dick Grayson,not Richard. I really hate it when character names get switched around. If the networks are scared that kids will et the wrong Idea from the name 'Dick' the they could had just use a different robin. There are, like, 4 or 5 different Robins to pick from.

Also I have notice that when some networks get the right to anime show. that change the character name from the original Japanese to a north american name. This happened to Sailor Moon and Yu-Gi-Oh, just to name the ones that I am sure about. No doubt many more should be listed wit the two I named.

I wanna know how the rest of the Tv viewing population feels about the name changes! I would love to hear some other points of view.

Um... Dick is short for Richard, and one of the Robins WAS named Richard John Grayson, "Dick" was short

but I know what you mean, a lot of Anime's and such are translated and their names are changed to more 'American' ones out of either pride or intolerance on behalf of the mostly american translators

I guess Robin is more comically know by the Nickname. Which seems odd to me. You would figure the nickname would be the lest know. ^^ I grew up with robin being called Dick. I guess you learn something new every day. Thanks for the link.

4 Kids has killed many show. Shaman King had his opening and ending credits song/animation changed. Winx club also was heavily edited. Name changes are one thing, but why do Tv makers feel the need to redo the theme songs as well.

But yeah, perhaps because Teen Titian is aimed at young teens, they thought "Dick" might be inappropriate.
But, I don't really care, especially with all the comic book universes, there are like 4 different Robins anyway.

I don't really mind the change that much because like alot of people have been saying Dick is short for Richard. I think one of the main reasons why they aren't using his nickname is because its now a popular slang term for...you know what. XD

I totally agree that its stupid to change characters names like what 4kids did to alot of shows but I don't Robin's name change as much.

That was probably before the world became stupid and everyone would either go 'hahaha, his name is Dick! Like a penis' or 'omfg, you can't say dick, this is a kids show, kids can't know dicks are anything but sexual rawr angry parent smash!'

I liked the Rai English, or even the original Italian with subs, where Alfea was a college not a high-school, there was the occasional sexual innuendo but not too much, and there were underlying tones of homosexuality and racism here and there, where the content was intended for Jr. High/Highschool girls and not grade 4 kids >.<

but I am happy knowing that the 4kids shaman king doesn't actually exist....

Man, don't even get me started on the Winx club that 4kids did. That was really hard to watch.

About name changes, it depends on what names they change it to. If it's a translation of the name in another language then I don't mind but if it's a different name all together then I wonder where the heck they pull the "English" names from. O.o

Lol I understand. 4Kids ever touch shaman king Black Phoebe. I keep trying to find high quality Rai English episodes on the web and they seem to be harder to kind then the holly grail.
