Ooh I saw this movie in theatres!
It was pretty good, but for some reason I was expecting more action-y stuff to happen XD
But it was still good^^ I really loved the whole background story on Erik!

I collect X-men comics and I am an devoted reader to them (I have all the issues from start to the most recent). I think we all know that the movie didn't really stay true to the comics at all, but I definitely enjoyed this movie. I thought that explaining the founding of the x-men was a great way for the film to re-jumpstart the franchise and I am looking forward to future installments. The only thing that I wish they had more of was Emma Frost's character, as she is my favourite character in the comic books and I just found her character to be a bit lacking.

Also I loved how they included Darwin (who was introduced in the Deadly Genesis storyline which deals with the 3rd Summers brothers and such), and Angel Salvadore who I absolutely loved in New X-men.

zigbigadorlube 08-12-2011 04:44 PM

@ Julianna: I was pretty amazed by the actions scenes that were in the film. It seemed like everyone's powers were really advanced though. That's not necessarily bad, it was just surprising.

----------

@ Wynna: That's a lot of comics! o. O

I can't say I really liked Emma Frost but she seemed to be an interesting character. I think all of the supporting characters were good though. I was rather sad that the one (I forget his name already...) died so quickly though. He seemed like a really cool guy. T_T

Wynna 08-13-2011 09:47 AM

@zig, in the comics Emma is a reformed villian who is now part of the x-men and is currently dating cyclops and acts as the headmistress of the Xavier Institute (when it still existed [now they live on an asteroid floating in San Francisco bay]). But she is awesome, she's a strong telepath and also has the ability to turn into organic diamond-like substance. But she is also a total bitch who is wealthy and is definitely an independent woman, and is nobody's lapdog (like in the film)...except only if she wants to be (like for personal gain, when she was Shaw's lapdog in the Hellfire club). Her and Jean Grey (when she isn't dead) total have a hate on for each other so that is also very entertaining to read about too (...Emma slept with her husband [telepathically of course])

----------

@ zig, are you talking about Darwin? Ya his presence in the X-men comics has also been pretty short-lived too. He is pretty awesome though. I believe right now he is venturing through space with Havok,Polaris (Magneto's daughter), and Marvel Girl (Jean Grey's daughter from another timeline)

zigbigadorlube 08-13-2011 06:50 PM

Headmistress, wow! An asteroid??? That's definitely unique. I could definitely see Emma and Jean hating each other though.

Yeah, I think that's what his name was. Magneto's daughter? Man, I feel way out of the loop now. I wouldn't mind getting into the comics but I feel like there isn't really any good place to jump into things and I'm pretty poor right now after buying a ton of Star Wars books. >.<

By itself, I liked the movie. It bugged me that it didn't follow the comics at all though. I did enjoy it as it was though. I also agree with the fact that Emma's character was very lacking.

Wynna 08-16-2011 09:58 PM

I wonder now that Azazel and Mystique are on the same side will this x-men revamp dive into Nightcrawlers origins (Uncanny x-men #428-#434 by Austen)

zigbigadorlube 08-16-2011 10:45 PM

I've been wondering about Nightcrawler as well once I realized who his parents were. That would be pretty interesting to see but it might really confuse the people who don't really know the universe and watched the second X-Men film.

zigbigadorlube 09-02-2011 04:25 AM

The movie will be coming out on DVD soon! I can't wait to rewatch this film.

Yesm, I am an X-Men fan.
I saw the new movie indeed. Just saw it last Friday at a friends house. Totally unplanned. And then my sister put it in the next day. Coincidence? I think so.
I definitely rate it five stars out of five.
My favorite scene was [SPOILER WARNING] when Eric kissed Raven. I squeed big-time.
My favorite mutant is Raven. She just wants to be accepted.
If I were a mutant, my mutation would allow me to know what people thought about me and be able to sense an organism's feelings.
I just started watching the cartoon X-Men: Evolution show.

zigbigadorlube 09-16-2011 09:18 PM

Cool! I'm glad someone else thinks it deserves five stars!

I'm not sure I have a favorite mutant but I sort of like Rogue. When I was watching the cartoon I liked Kitty best, probably because one of the first episodes I watched focused on her character.

I'll have to look up that cartoon you mentioned, I don't think it's the same as the one I watched. If not I should try to check it out!

zigbigadorlube 09-25-2011 06:31 PM

Has anyone else tried watched this film now that it's out on DVD?

ekf501 03-22-2012 11:20 PM

Alright! An X-Men thread :D
I watched this movie 2 weeks ago for the first time on dvd. I have since watched it at least 8 times start to finish, once in french, and watched the ending 12 times. I LOVE this movie. I was kinda hesitant about it when it came out in theatres because they screwed up X-Men Last Stand sooo badly, but I love Wolverine Origin so I was torn. I gave in and haven't regretted it since :)
I'm not a massive fan of X-Men. I'm only into one x-men comic series and that's the 6-7 issue Wolverine Origin storyline. I would watch some of the old cartoons on VHS since my dad has them, but I never really got into it until I watched X-Men Evolution on tv. Now I love all the movies except for Last Stand.
I would rate First Class 9/10, and I only take off a point because of the awkward timeline structure not fitting into anything else previously made and the weird green-screening they did with Angel Salvadore and Banshee.
My favourite scenes are the ending in Cuba, Charles helping Erik find the point between rage and serenity, and the awkward kitchen unveiling when Raven accepts herself and Charles gets all embarrassed.
My favourite mutants are Charles and Erik, but I also only like Shaw and Azazel for their powers. I mean come on, there's just something really cool about a mutant who can divert energy and put new meaning to "putting your foot down" lol. And Azazel? I love his son's power and character so why wouldn't I like the father's power? :)
I've thought of that before...hmmm what would my mutation be? lol If it were real life, my luck would probably make me into someone like Senator Kelly...can't hold his mutation and dies... :P
But what would I want to have? Ok I've come up with two, but one's only useful to me so I could never be a cool X-man.
-The ability to never have anything ail me in any way, shape, or form, no matter how minor the ailment. (This would be so helpful for me since I'm lactose intolerant, seliac intolerant, have a non-functioning thyroid gland that I take meds for, family history of migraines, and whacked out hormones) lol wouldn't it be awesome to be completely healthy? :D
-I'd also LOVE to be able to speak every single language in existence. Oh that would be so cool!
