Catfish: The tv show

Okay, so there's this new show on Mtv called Catfish. It is a show where a man named Nev seeks people online who are in online relationships, meet who they claim to be in love with. Quite often the people they fall in love with aren't who they say they are. SO have any of you seen this show? Opinions? Has anyone ever fallen in love online, if so, how did it work out? [hug]

This is so funny! I just finished watching an episode of it online. I saw an ad for it on YouTube and I thought hm... this is interesting, and being the impatient person I am I streamed it online as it doesn't air in the UK until the 21st.

Personally, I think these people are completely naive. From the first two episodes I've watched I've seen these 2 stunning young women being duped by people who just desperately seek attention and control over others. I mean, these girls would have absolutely no trouble getting a guy in real life so why they had to fall in love with some stranger online is beyond me, but I'm as cynical as they come.

Have I ever fallen in love with someone I know? No. Again, I am cynical and I do not trust strangers easily, especially someone I can't see. Did I know someone who did? Yes. Twice. He was a guy on a mostly female site and he fell head over heels with this girl. From the pictures she posted over herself, she was stunning but her life sounded so ridiculous. Anyways, they were gonna meet up and get married and blablabla. Eventually, she just stopped coming online because she was 'on tour'. Then he fell in love again... but with a 'guy' (Sky) as he was bi-sexual. But after a few months later Sky revealed he was in fact a she.

I mean don't get me wrong, the idea of love isn't lost on me. I've been in a loving relationship with the same guy for 3 years but online relationships rarely work out as at least 60% of the time the other (or both) are not who they say they are. What's wrong with going out into the real world and meeting someone?

I actually quite enjoy this show. I feel like he is a really good fit for host/producer because he personally experienced it.

I also feel like he handled his own situation with respect and tact. He could have gotten really upset and been very rude and no one would have blamed him for it. Instead, he took the time to understand it from her point of view and saw that she was just a very nice woman who was very lonely and stuck in her life. Not that that is a valid excuse for what she did, but not every action is committed with valid reasoning.

I like that he tries to defuse the situations that end badly and keep the people in friendship. It's obvious that there was a reason they were close, even if their actions were false.

In short, MTV could have gone the trashy super drama route on this one, but they took the high road instead.
