True Blood
I could've sworn that there used to be a thread for this but I sure can't find it. But anyway, does anyone watch this show?
I've been watching it recently out of boredom and I kept getting told how good it is. WELL, I do like parts of it. But let's just say that if Sookie dies a vile death and some other character gets the main role I wouldn't cry a single tear. Anyway, discuss! Favorite characters, plot developments, excited for the new season that I think is starting either today or tomorrow? |
Hey! I watch True Blood and I've read the book series that the show is based off of. I like Sookie in the book more than in the show but i dont hate her like i have hated other characters. My favorite character would have to be Eric. I loved him in the book and Alexander Skarsgard plays him SOO perfectly. Its also probably the first time an actor has exceeded how attractive i imagined the character being.
I don't know how far into the series you are and dont want to ruin anything for you, so the next couple sentences might spoil something. I am disappointed with the fairy plot because it was different in the books and im not to happy about the Warlow plot (wasn't in the book at all.) But i like the Vamp Camp plot going on. And Bill going crazy. I also love Jessica even though her character didn't exists in the books. I hate Tara and starting to dislike Sam. I am mad that a character from the books Quinn wasn't in the show. I really liked him. |
*warning* Following post is full of spoilers. Read at your own risk.
I'm most of the way through the series so there's not much you can spoil for me. :) I presumed Sookie was a little more tolerable in the books than the show (one of the major things I can't stand is her accent/high pitched voice), but I still can barely stand her sometimes. The rest of the characters I like more except for probably Bill. Bill also gets on my nerves but he's not nearly as bad. I'm really surprised that Jessica isn't in the books! I like her a lot, actually. I don't like her leading Jason on but I really don't blame her that much considering she was only 16 or 17 when she was turned vampire. Jason used to bug me in the first couple seasons with his sexcapades but he grew on me and I like him now. I like Eric as well (I don't know anyone who could do otherwise, lol). He's a mysterious character in a lot of ways and it's definitely interesting to learn things about him. I'd have to say my favorite character from the series is/was Godric. I wish he'd gotten to stay around longer as his regular self before he met the true death and turned into Eric's hallucinations. Oh, also, yeah the faerie plot is a bit much. I think they've been trying to twist too many subplots together in the last couple of seasons. |
I'm just sad this season's so short!
|
I'm kinda depressed after every episode this season. It's winding down in a depressing, sort of unsatisfying way for me. Though to be honest it kinda jumped the shark awhile back. They just better not kill off lafayette!
|
I gave up on the show midway through season 6. XD I know, I know. I was so close I should've just kept going. I think that I'll wait for this season/the show to finish airing, then I'll binge watch it just to say I finished True Blood. It's just that this show has continuously gone downhill since the first or second season. I hope that GoT doesn't follow suit since both shows are done by HBO.
I agree, they better not kill off Lafayette, and I hope they won't/didn't kill off Eric in the episodes I've not seen. |
Oh, I don't want to spoiler it if you haven't been following, but it doesn't seem likely Eric will make it. There's some factors that seem likely to slow him down.
|
Yeah, I recall that it didn't seem like he was going to make it up to the point I have seen.
Is this season really as awful as I've been hearing? |
This season has been a huge let down. Though, I started to feel let down with the entire Billith shit to be honest. I have hated with a passion beyond passions how they are killing off some of these characters. What I mean is come the fuck on! Warlow had a better 'last scene' than some of these SERIES-LONG characters are getting.
Warlow was a great plot, though I think they should have built up the entire Warlow plot for more than a single season. They should have built up warlow since the fairy plot was introduced. Yeah, without going into spoilers-galore. I hated the first two deaths in this season. They were short and not even really "epic." Like the first one for example, series-long character. Killed off screen after a bullshit short "heart-to-heart" moment 10 minutes earlier. The only thing I am liking about this current season is the Eric&Pam and Jessica stories. Eric and Pam because it shows how they came to be there from their prior life. Than you have Jessica's mixed feelings and coming to her regret of killing the three kids. I am really enjoying those. I feel they are actually building on something with this. Bill is being a bitch. Sookie is being sookie (though the epic tear-jerker at the end of episode three raised the feels). The Jason+Violet thing is meh. The stories they are applying to this entire "End of the world" plot is just pathetic. |

The fact that this show just continuously got more depressing is one of the main reasons I quit watching it. I will have to go back and finish watching it I suppose.
It's like, I don't watch shows to feel worse, ya know? I'm interested to know how it ends, but I may just read about it rather than suffer through it because it's hard to express in words just how much I hate Sookie and Bill. |
I'm disappointed in the show. I have been watching it with my mother and we both have read the books. From the season five we've been waiting for Quinn but nooooo, he's still not in the show. I'm so disappointed. After the fourth season the show has nothing to do with the books, which were okay (I'll admit, I haven't read from book ten to onwards so I still have no idea what has happened in them).
I can't stand Sookie and her drama! so she's definitely not the reason I am watching the show... |
I have to agree with Explodey. Every episode this season just leaves me sad. .__. Either that, or angry. I'll watch it until the end, since I've watched it from the beginning.
Mimmu, I wish Quinn would have been in the show, too! I loved him in the books. :c |

That is my reaction to sunday's episode.. And of course the general statement towards everything sookie has done this season. |
I found out why it's been less fun. After that writer's strike a few years ago they lost a lot of people, including Alan Ball, who was the main writer on the first few seasons! It's like what happened to Ren and Stimpy. At this point I think they have one original writer left. So it's not necessarily that it is a bad show, it's that hacks have hold of it now, so it's not going in the true direction it had been intended.

That was a rather disappointing finale. It had two good moments IMHO....aaaand I'll wait to make sure everyone who's going to caught it. ^_^
|
Aaw, now I am going through True Blood withdrawal though. I woke up kind of blue on Sunday, because there was no new episode to look forward to.
But, since I am the only one replying in this thread, I expect the interest for it was long gone for everyone else anyway, so maybe this post will be the nail in the coffin, and True Blood can rest in peace. |
