Pacific Rim

Aka: I can't belive I haven't made this thread yet.

Now, as a few of you will know from tumblr (where I never shut up about it), I am a huge fan of this movie, and the world that it is set in, but I don't know if anyone here on Menewsha has even seen it yet.

So, if you have seen it, what did you think?
Have you read the accompanying book and graphic novel?
What do you think the sequel will be about?

Iro 08-30-2013 03:26 PM

I thought Pacific Rim was absolutely awesome! It was such a thrill to see huge robots and monsters pitching against each other on the big screen, and being a huge fan of giant robots and kaiju in general (thank you, Ultraman), it hit many right notes with me!

I've not gotten the accompanying book (I plan to, but the price range is a bit out of my current budget, so I'm working on side commissions to earn money for it), but I have read the graphic novel.

The interviews mentioned something about a Jaeger-Kaiju fusion in the future, and I think that will be very interesting to explore. I'd look forward to seeing that if that happens but as a whole, I'll see what they come up with when the day comes. :D

P.S. - What's your favourite Jaeger or kaiju?

Bearzy 08-31-2013 04:47 AM

My favourite Jaeger was Cherno Alpha, because I'm quite a fan of the more heavyset, straight up punching style of fighting it used. My favourite Kaiju was probably Otachi, because of the flying thing, that was so cool, and unexpected!

Absolutely loved this movie! Only qualm was the ending.

SPOILERX

I thought they should have killed the main male character. Would have added more depth and meaning to the story. I know they want a PRII but still, I would have preferred to see him go.

i havent seen it yet
so it's worth buying the dvd, yeah?

Iro 11-19-2013 10:13 AM

It depends on the person. I personally found it GREAT, but I know some who found the movie "lame" or "eh". I'd get the dvd or blu-ray because at least, the fights would be terrific on them, especially Hong Kong. Ooohh the lights in Hong Kong.

Bearzy 11-19-2013 11:13 AM

It's my favourite movie of the year Hummy. It comes out on DVD here today and I really want to buy it.

SPOILERX

You thought they should have killed Raleigh, Xav? How do you think they should have done it?

I haven't seen it since the theaters, which is funny because I own it. XD

I might be crossing movies, but doesn't he go somewhere. And isn't there a small window of time he has to escape. I feel like he should have just died in the area to give it that "a captain goes down with his ship" effect.

ElysiumFate 11-21-2013 02:08 AM

I liked the movie, personally,

SPOILERX

but I was quite disappointed that we didn't get more character development with (especially) the pilots of Cherno Alpha or Crimson Typhoon. I was not at all attached to the pilots of Crimson Typhoon because they had no real character development, but the pilots of Cherno Alpha were seriously interesting characters and it's a shame that they hardly got any attention. I would've loved if the movie was 30 or so minutes longer so we could've gotten more back story on people other than the main characters.

This is probably one of the only times I'll ever say this, but I would love a prequel for this movie.

3. I dunno... here is a spoiler tag for answer.

SPOILERX

Dunno maybe Hannibal Chau didn't kill the baby or.. the "mom" has more babies... or idk they somehow reopen a bridge or they had some hiding on the planet they didn't know about lol. I kinda named it Pacific Rim: Back to the Drift... lol ;3 I loved the credit song Drift by rza but hated the rapping part ugh. Anyways all I know is there is gonna be some kaiju they didn't know about and they going to get rid of it/them. I just hope they built some more robots 'just incase' if not hell.. they gonna be screwed for the first part of the movie LOL

Also in replies to spoiler tags...

SPOILERX

MAIN CHAR DEATH
I guess... but I kinda liked that he lived.. not to fond of watching movies or shoes where the main character dies. If you have two main ones and you kill one I guess it's ok. But then again.. no [illgetu] I like my characters alive tyvm.. (p.s. you can't take my six pack away from! ((the actor)) )

PREQUEL
OMG yes ;3... I'll say yes to anything that isn't a horror movie or.. super.. sad [cry] film. Prequel.. sure.. TAKE MY MONEY....sequel.. TAKE MY MONEY... Whether it's ok, good, badass, the same as the first in terms of goodness, meh, poor.. I don't care just make it and take my money... please... :<

ElysiumFate 11-23-2013 06:55 AM

Huh. I really can't imagine what a sequel to this would be like. Hopefully it will be a prequel like I said! I feel like if there was a sequel to it they might screw it up fishing for plot lines that don't exist. That's what happened to Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but who knows, they might have something great up their sleeves.

I would love to see some more awesome jaeger battles, that's for sure.

Bearzy 11-28-2013 12:11 AM

I'm pretty sure they do have some good plotlines up their sleeves, because I know Travis Beacham really wants to make a sequel. If they do make another movie it's going to be "we want to tell this story and we don't think it's finished" and not "lets see how much money we can make!" which is why PotC is still going.
