...Seriously, though. Is anyone else as obsessed with this movie as I am? ;~;

I mean...Olaf is the main reason for why I paid to see the movie in theaters...four times..But the rest of it is pretty great too. :3

Xavirne 12-11-2013 07:28 PM

I need to see this! It looks downright adorable! And the fact that you've seen it four times... well, it just makes me want to see it even more. Ugh! I NEEDS IT, NOW!

Phantom 12-11-2013 09:52 PM

It didn't really feel like a Disney movie in a lot of ways (the humor was slightly different), but I promise you it would be worth your time to see it. :0 I've had the songs stuck in my head for weeks, and the art is just beautiful~

hillary84 12-14-2013 02:57 AM

I agree the art is beautiful ! I'm hoping my schedule allows me to see it again this weekend.

I just watched it the other day and it was pretty good I guess. I did feel the characters and their relationships were very underdeveloped though. It was sort of about sisterhood, but then it wasn't really at all. It focuses much more on Anna and her relationships with men more than anything else. I felt the sisterhood part definitely came second. I also really didn't find any of the songs appealing. The animation was beautiful, even with the clipping issues people have pointed out. I agree with a lot of other people though, PoC need more representation in children's movies and this could have been a really great opportunity to do that. Disney adaptations aren't known for being accurate to the original fairy tales, so why are people so dead set on the characters always being white just because of the original story's origin? It doesn't make sense to me, especially in the world of fantasy. Little girls of all colors should be able to see themselves in characters and unfortunately that isn't happening.

So, tl;dr Frozen was a pretty movie, but we need more diversity in children's movies.
(preferably diversity that isn't completely stereotyped and problematic)

Phantom 12-16-2013 08:13 PM

I see what you mean--I remember rolling my eyes a little when I saw the coming attractions for it because it looks a lot like a CGI version of many of Disney's past movies. I also read several articles comparing the design of the characters to those in Tangled (they're very, very similar).

...so I set pretty low expectations for it when I initially went to watch it. When you keep it in the context of Disney/magical white people/romance?!?, it's pretty decent. Not very diverse and not ground-breaking by any means, but decent. :3

I thought this movie was beautiful. The artwork was breathtaking. The characters were pretty. The soundtrack is awesome. I'm biased though, as I'm a snow baby. But I simply love this movie. Been singing the songs since I saw it last night. :)

Greatest movie ever. No contest. Loved it.

Olaf is the greatest snowman ever!

May i just say, i love how Elsa's facial expressions go along very well with not only what she is saying, but with the songs as well.

Yes and yes! Everything about this movie is win!

So this movie was only released in New Zealand on boxing day so I've been staying out of this thread until I saw it, but wow.

I'm gonna start by agreeing with Phantom Lolita about PoC representation (can we talk about the Sami people, who come from the same region as the fairytale and whose culture a lot of the clothing from the movie was based on?), but I'm gonna continue by saying that this movie and Brave were a huge step forward for Disney princesses in other ways. (There are going to be spoilers in the upcoming monologue, so I'll put it in a box)

SPOILERX

For starters, the end of the movie, where Anna's act of true love towards her sister is what saves her, and saves the kingdom? Perfect. It would have been so easy to do what disney has done a million times before and make true love a purely attraction based and romantic phenomenon (Like what Anna thought she had with Hans.) but they took it in another direction, where not only were the two women in the movie not rivals but their platonic love was incredibly strong and it's important for young girls to see things like that.

I mentioned Brave, and it's a similar situation. When I watched that movie with my family, my Opa said "Oh, she's going to fall in love with the carpenter's son." when he saw the witch's hut. And it would have been so easy for Disney to make a movie about a girl who wanted to marry someone who her parents didn't want her to marry but instead they decided to make a story about a mother and daughter who have to sacrifice their pride for the good of the land. It was a powerful story about healthy relationships between two women which you don't see very often.

TLDR: Frozen and Brave were steps forward in teaching little girls about developing good relationships with other women, but Disney still really needs to step up their game when it comes to PoC.

derpy_shy 01-02-2014 11:37 PM

I like most that they didnt cause Elsa to be an exact 'Villain'. It was more that the Villain wasnt known until the end of the movie, and more was towards a young girl trying to help her sister see that she doesnt need to face what she is going through alone. Even more so, i believe that had her parents not had her hide her powers, she may have been able to live happy. But then if it had gone like that, it would have been a short movie. Over all, Disney did good for their 50th movie.

Bearzy 01-03-2014 04:35 AM

That's another point, I reckon that her parents (even though they didn't have much to go on, and did their best) didn't take the Troll's advice properly. I think it was fear of her power that was what made it so hard to control, more than anything else, and I think that if they had gone about it like that, she would have grown up a lot happier and healthier.

Definitely an awesome movie. The climax actually made me cry because of how beautiful it was. [cry] That moment where you see the look in the character's face and realize what they're going to do just seconds before they do it and know how bad the consequences are going to be. That moment where in your mind you're thinking "oh no..." Those moments are the most heart-wrenching. More than worth the price of admission. [eager]

WherededIGo 01-19-2014 12:12 PM

Elsa is just my favourite Disney character [drool]
Frozen has officially taken over the Hunchback of Notre Dame for my favourite Disney movie. THE GRAPHICS MADE ME CRY IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!

And that plot twist. I was waiting for it, and when it happened the whole cinemas was all "no" in whispered horror and I was all like hella. Things just got real.

The music was amazing as well Idina did a wonderful job as Elsa [drool]

Melody 03-20-2014 06:18 AM

I LOVE Frozen. Quite a bit of it has to do with Idina. I swear, her voice gives me shivers, there's so much feeling. I saw Wicked on Broadway and have been in love with her voice since. Elsa also turns out to be such a great character, the growth she goes through is beautiful.

Also, you have to love any movie where a song will point out a relationship with a reindeer that's "a little outside of natures laws" I couldn't stop cracking up over that line!
