Sherlock Holmes (BBC version)

I'm a really big fan of Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch and I was wondering if anyone else has seen the new series and thoughts on the series.

jupiter 04-03-2014 02:29 AM

When the first episode of the season aired, we all sat around to watch. I was a little skeptical at first because we've had a really great run of shit shows. Plus it was during the whole vampire trend, so I wasn't much in the mood. But my God, what a surprise! I really loved the cg effects, and the filming styles; it's not only very aesthetically pleasing to watch, but they added in some nice humor and great writers for the characters.

I'm entirely pleased with the show.

LonelyOtaku97 04-03-2014 02:55 AM

Glad your pleased with the show Jupiter it is awesome! I loved the very first episode to.

Phaena 04-03-2014 08:24 PM

It's my favorite. I love all the ACD canon references! [heart]

LonelyOtaku97 04-05-2014 05:23 PM

ACD canon sorry i'm so clueless sometimes, the episode called a scandal in boleria was really good.

Phaena 04-05-2014 05:40 PM

Arthur Conan Doyle; references to the books were made in the show.

pumpkins 04-06-2014 06:58 PM

It's so well made, especially the cinematography is so pretty.. I like this show a lot except for Irene Adler. Her character is just something writers can't handle, even on this century.

Phaena 04-06-2014 07:08 PM

SPOILER ALERT!

I like Irene but at the same time, I don't. In ASiB, the idea that the priest disguise means Sherlock’s deliberately celibate is intentional I’m pretty sure, but I read all of ASiB as Irene basically forcing sexual stuff on him and causing him distress and turning him off to sex. So she shows up naked without asking, aggressively takes his collar, literally drugs and beats him without his consent, then deduces to him while he’s helpless (when the show has a running subtext that deducing is analogous to sex for Sherlock) which combined with the drugging and beating is sort of like metaphorical rape :-/, then threatens to beat him until he begs for mercy, and then brings up sex again even when he’s clearly not interested (he’s visibly irritated when she asks, “Have you ever had anyone?”) by the fireplace and grabs his wrist, etc. Irene’s behavior is, to put it mildly, incredibly uncool.

LonelyOtaku97 04-06-2014 08:30 PM

@Phaena: Oh ok sorry I was tired the day I read that. I thought it was weird that Irene was a dominatrix. I know in the other stories she was an opera singer. While she did still outsmart Holmes it is really sad that she drugged him. Good thing Watson was there or who knows what would have happened.

Thieving this thread. [ninja]
Third season just became available on Netflix and I'm watching... rather bingeing. XD
I have to say the interactions are hysterical. The snark from Sherlock is rich and wonderful. And we're in fits laughing.

OrphanWhite 06-05-2014 07:33 AM

I'm just about finished with S03E03 and HOLY POOP.
This season blew my mind! :o

Pistachio_Moustache 06-05-2014 04:03 PM

I've already watched the third season, but I'm going to again, because WHY NOT
I'm going to watch the behind the scenes, because I love BTS's.

OrphanWhite 06-05-2014 07:04 PM

SPOILER ALERT

When Mary shot Sherlock I was like, "Is this really how it's going to end? Mary's gonna be the one that ends the great Sherlock Holmes?"

Also, I was very angry that John forgave Mary so easily. I know she only shot Sherlock because she had to, and she didn't shoot to kill, but OHMYGOD. Did anyone else freak out when she turned around? I was so angry with her! Stupid John, being attracted to psychopaths.

I can't wait for S04!

LonelyOtaku97 06-06-2014 03:08 PM

Oh wait I don't think I saw that episode I'm still in the second season.

Pistachio_Moustache 06-06-2014 11:48 PM

Uh oh, hide it, OW!
D:!

SPOILERX

Yeah, I was shocked! But he loved her, so he eventually forgave her. Like whoa. It took a long time. I would too. xD

Uniplex 06-08-2014 07:26 PM

Okay first things first, I love benedict cumberbatch. He is mine. None of yalls. Just saying. (lol jk)

I love Sherlock. It's a good show and, to me, you can't get much better. I sat and watched the whole show over in a day when the third season came onto Netflix lol. I am such a spaz!!!

~LONGCAT~ 06-08-2014 07:31 PM

You do have to take it into consideration the life that John has lived. He was a war doctor and his best friend is sociopathic adventure seeking junkie. In a way he is too. And it's something they talk about. He's seen the very worst in humanity and knows that life can and will go on. He loves her even if she had done something so terrible, he still loves Sherlock despite all the shit he's done too! :p

LonelyOtaku97 06-18-2014 07:49 PM

Yeah especially after the reichenbach fall that was a good episode I just watched it last night. I do feel bad about what John is going through without Sherlock.

Alexander J Luthor 07-07-2014 04:50 AM

Just started this today. I am soooo not used to a show this long. On episode 2 S2 and I can't quit checking the time to see if I'm still watching the same episode. I have the feeling I'll be like every other drooling fan soon enough, and dear god is anyone else in love with how many unintelligible lines there are in the Netflix subtitles? I'm not entirely sure if it's on purpose or if they just can't keep up.

Also, I hate myself right now. This is the first time in a good four years or so that a show has made me want to sit down and write a fanfiction. Two different ones actually. It's this what it's like to merge into a fandom again? I haven't gone through this since I first found Supernatural and Doctor Who. The first time of course being Harry Potter. It's like the four-corner mafias of the known entertainment universe.

LonelyOtaku97 07-07-2014 04:39 PM

Yeah I'm so glad you like the show alot of people seem to do fanfics that involve sherlock and watson.

Alexander J Luthor 07-07-2014 07:09 PM

Like, Sherlock/Watson? I'm not huge into slash. Especially when canon is set against it. I never understood people who claimed to love characters and would then proceed to bend that character out of their own wills in order to suit the person's desires/needs. I saw a "Helsa" video on youtube the other day and... I just...

LonelyOtaku97 07-08-2014 02:55 AM

Yeah people do that alot ship sherlock and watson its really weird.

Antagonist 07-13-2014 01:25 PM

Oh gods the Johnlock everywhere. [headdesk]

They're all over my dash on Facebook because a lot of people keep posting them in the fan groups I joined. Gah.

And then there's the Sheriarty, Mormor, etc. etc...

Non-canon pairings aside, I love the show. [drool] Super excited about season 4 next year.

Alexander J Luthor 07-13-2014 03:10 PM

Wait- isn't that third one supposed to be Marmor or Mormar. Or is Sherlock's brother Mycroft, or Morcroft... I am so confused.

I want season fooooooour. And the way time passes and can't wait to see Watson and Mary's baby explode through growth. I mean it was almost seven months between 3-2 and 3-3. They tied it, then Christmas! Yaaaay. Dat. Second. Episode. Though... It might just be my favorite because I really want to watch it again.

"Maybe it was the invisible man?"

"You just earned yourself a decapitated nun!"

Antagonist 07-13-2014 04:07 PM

Mormor = James/Jim Moriarty and Sebastian Moran, which is funny because Moran hasn't even appeared in the BBC series yet. [XD]

I'd like to see what John and Mary's baby's like too, and how Sherlock deals with her...
My favorite's currently S3E1, I probably died laughing at least ten times the first time I watched that. [XD]
John and Mary's wedding was nice too, also really funny, with the wedding preparations and all. [lol]
