Hello fellow Whovians!
So I didn't really see a Doctor Who thread specific for all of the seasons, including Classic!Who, so I thought this would be a great time to put up this thread.
This will be a save haven to talk about Doctor who. And I'd love for us all to discuss some or all of the following: favorite/least favorite aliens, Doctors, companions, seasons, episodes, and so forth.
Rules are simple. Stick to forum rules. No bullying allowed, no shaming for what the person likes over what you like, or the other way around, and please remember to add in spoiler alerts should you honestly feel you need to.

Hello! Glad to find this thread! I don't have a favorite Doctor, but I consider Nine "my Doctor" because he was the first one I watched (though it took me about three tries to get through his first episode). I really like the cybermen and the daleks, but I feel they've started to be overused and they don't excite or scare me like they used to (they used to be pretty scary, to be honest; I'm not ashamed to admit that). I haven't watched season 8 yet, but I saw the premiere in the theater and it looked pretty alright.
I've heard they've started playing Doctor Who on a mainstream network (might have been Cartoon Network or something?), but they skipped Nine and went right to Ten, which I really can't blame them for.

I think it was DisneyXD that they started playing it on. I forget but I remember switching through my channels the other day and it showed on a channel like that.
I finished all the seasons of the new Doctor Who (tried Classic Who and just couldn't do it) and I must say although I'm in love with the new Capaldi Doctor, 11 will always be my favorite -- can't help with that. But anyways, Fall needs to be now for new Doctor Who!

I think the thing I like most about Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, is that he has the otherworldly and mysterious feel of William Hartnell, the fruitloopiness of Patrick Troughton, the all action energy of Jon Pertwee, the spaced out 'would you like a jelly baby' weirdness of Tom Baker (who is without doubt my favourite Dr, and his image is the international symbol of the Dr Who franchise), the nonchalant innocence of Peter Davison, the mean 'I'm the doctor now!' streak of Colin Baker, the take no nonsense approach of Sylvester McCoy, the enigmatism of Paul McGann, the gruff haggard looks of John Hurt, the 'holier than though' presence of Christopher Eccleston, the comedic flair of David Tennant, and the 'everything's new but I've seen it all before' childishness of Matt Smith. they've actually been quite cleaver with him this time, made him his own man, yet integrated personality traits from every single one of the past Doctors

CBS Horror (UK) has been showing episodes of the first seven doctors (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy). last week it was Genesis of the Daleks, which depicted the origin of the doctor's second worst enemy (the first being himself). it was interesting watching them again and seeing just how meticulously the current production team have worked on the continuity of the storylines.

wow! all I'm going to say about the first episode, is wow! thrills, twists, and three of the doctor's most heinously diabolical enemies. I was teetering at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. and don't worry if you're not up to date. a few in the fold things might go 'over your head' but you'll soon be up to speed

yeah, Peter Capaldi does take some getting use to, but by the end of his first series he manages to take on the roll as his own while keeping the memory of all the previous doctors alive. once, Davros, creator of the Daleks, even said that this face is his favourite on the doctor, but only because it looks more like him

I think Peter Capaldi is great but he could be oh so much awesomer if they get the right companion(s). I'm sorry, but I really can't wait until Clara goes 'cause she is annoying the heck out of me. To me, she doesn't have a special personality like past woman companions have, for example: Donna and River (my favorites). Although, I just really would love to have a break from women companions and maybe either have a man, child, alien, or animal of some kind instead. I really hardly doubt they'll ever do that, but oh well, I can dream!

unfortunately, sex sells. the past male companions never stood well on their own, and were soon either replaced or paired up with a female co-companion. the last alien companion (not including fellow timelords, robot dogs, or androids like Kamelion) I can think of was Adric, from Alazalius, and he looked as human as you and I. the Doctor seems fixated on the human race, and while he often pairs up with aliens (or sub-human species), he's predominantly drawn to the human race. anything else would be out of character, as well as hard for a human audience to relate to (the Doctor's comps are usually everyday people with the potential for greatness).
on a lighter note, the second episode of the current series was not as nail bitingly exciting as the first, though they did cross all the T's and dot the I's. a better insight was explored into his three greatest enemies (not including himself) and the door was opened for the upcoming storyline too. also, the answer to what happens to the remains of an undying race. there were thrills, spills and quite a few laughs, but definitely too many inside jokes for the casual watcher to understand. all in all, I give 'the witch's familiar' a satisfactory eight out of ten, and two thumbs up for paving the way for future episodes

oh yeah I did actually mean a human-like alien, but somehow they could be different. Oh my gosh, have it like Ranma 1/2, where if they go into cold or hot water, they change gender. Could have twins play the character!
And I still need to watch the current season. I've just been busy watching other season premieres and am still looking for a link to watch the first episode.

well its only just aired here in the UK, but I'm not sure how long the delay is before you guys get it in the US. I like your idea of a humanesque alien again, the ones in the past have been great. I mean, Madame Vastra cameos from time to time, but she's just an evolutionary offshoot from the dinosaurs, so no more alien than you and I, even if she is reptilian. and her companio, Strax, the Sontaran. he's definitely alien, unless he's descended from a moldy potato. of course, its not enough to fit your criteria of a non-human Doctor companion. but that's all they're going to give us for now

Hey everyone! I haven't gotten very far into watching Doctor who yet but I really quite enjoy it. I've so far watched all of the 9th doctor and maybe one episode with the 10th doctor. And random episodes here and there of the 11th doctor. I liked the 9th doctor.
Would anyone know of where I can watch all all the classic who at? I'd really like to go to the beginning and work my way from there.
As for the villains/doctors enemies, those I've seen so far, I rather like the daleks.

From what I have heard you can find certain older episodes, but most have been lost. I know the BBC now has the Breakfast with Baker program going on, and that shows most of the older ones with him.

I've been watching episodes of Doctors one through seven on CBS Horror, but that's in the UK, not certain if they have the same schedule where you are. there are BBC boxsets available of all episodes/series' of Who, but it could prove expensive putting them all together. also, Xbox video has access to a wide collection of Who, both old and new too

I live in the United states. I don't have tv, just whatever channels the antenna happens to pick up. There is one channel that'll play a random episode of Dr who on Saturdays but it plays at like 11 at night. I don't have Internet access often so I'd say watching online probably won't work to well.
I may have to look into the boxed sets.

I believe I've just started season 7 of New Who... But I'm still heartbroken about 9 and Rose. ;--; I took a bit of a hiatus before I could really move on (I think I ended up skipping most of 10?).
Either way, my friend and I joked that Rupert Grint should play the next doctor... Because he's a ginger, and I'd love to see the Dr. wave his sonic screwdriver around like a wand. x3
