This post will contain spoilersIt was a good movie, admitedly, but to agree with Jack ( since I went and saw it with him) it wasn't what I went to see. The movie starts out pretty nice, but a few minutes later you see a guys face being bashed in with a fucking bottle. D:
It didn't talk about the girl enough, the man seemed to be the main character.
I didn't really like it that much. D: But I did really like Pan's design. <3

I wonder if I enjoyed the movie so much because I knew almost nothing about it when I went in.

I never say an trailers, previews, or commercials for it - I just heard that it was good and was in Spanish.

yea me too. That, and I knew it was by Guillermo del Toro and I love him. The Devil's Backbone is one of my favorite movies.

I thought the movie was visually stunning. I loved the contrast between her fantasy worls and the real world. I thought Vidal was the most sadistic bastard I've ever seen in a movie.

I admired, that even tho it was pretty gory, there was alot that they didn't show you happening. They would cut away right before the actual act.

the part that totally grossed me out was the toad. Everything else was pretty okay. Oh! and I loved the end where he gets shot in the cheek and you see the blood welling up in his eye. BRILLIANT!

I think Guillermo del Toro is one of the most brilliant directors we have today. I loved that he used as much real as he could get. I'm a big fan of Rober Rodriguez and I love his use of blue screens and CGI. He's a brilliant man that knows how to get done what he wants on a budget most people would sneeze at, but there's something about the depth of reality when things are actually there and interacting together.

And as sad as i was, i loved the ending. hooray for guillermo for not going with a trite happy hollywood ending. that would have been disappointing.

I didn't saw it. I wanted to puch my family to see it with me and they refuse. As I didn't wanted to go alone, I just let it go.

Balthier 04-03-2007 05:27 PM

This movie was brilliant. I loved it. The best part was how so many people were claiming it was gorey, which it wasn't at all. There was violence, but it had a purpose. It wasn't like crappy horror movie gore, it was real and necessary.

I like the debate of whether the fantasy was real or not. To me, there's no question. Too many fantastic things happened affecting more people than just Pan for it to have been all in her head.

The Pale Man was really really scary.

Doofus Soda 04-03-2007 11:59 PM

  • I want to watch it, but someone I know said that it was kinda.... creepy-ish. x.o

Alegretto 04-04-2007 02:25 AM

It is a little creepy, and definitely NOT something one should bring their children to come see. Pan's Labyrinth isn't a pretty movie. Wait, it is. Its just that the content used is dark and not happy and fluffy and roses.

It's amazingly well done, though. If you can, go and see it.

jazzkitteh 04-04-2007 02:48 AM

As soon as im done with the star wars movie im definately going to be watching this. I ordered it accidently thinking it was The Labyrinth with David Bowie so i guess i may as well watch it xD

Bippy 04-04-2007 03:20 AM

Me seeing the movie was unplanned, a friend wanted to go to the movies and I ended up going along not knowing what we were seeing. I'm glad I went. Pan's Labyrinth was a dark and moving film that combined the perfect amounts of fantasy and creepy together to totaly enthrall me. When it comes out on DVD it will be a welcome collection to my collection.

I finally got the time to watch this! I absolutely loved this movie so much! The story (even though it's basic), is pretty well done. I love the graphics and the music a lot. Such a gothic fairytale~ It's so beautiful ;____; I cried so much in this movie hahahah... *crybaby* XD;

The characters are also pretty well developed, too ;___; <3

Molotov21 04-11-2007 10:34 AM

I haven't yet had a chance to see it, but my friend saw it in theatres. He says it's one of his favorites. :3

vampyface69 04-18-2007 05:36 PM

I very much enjoyed this movie. It was a wonderful tale where you get to see the brutal realities and fantasies that children can sometimes create. I think that the message there was a good one.

Some things to note, I had no idea that the movie was subtitled when I went to see it and still enjoyed every minute of the movie. I thought that the faery creatures were portrayed well and retained their semi-creepy edge to them. I liked that they played both seelie and unseelie roles which is how I think that fae creatures should be represented.

The movie had stunning visuals and a great storyline. I highly reccommend this film to people though I wouldn't let children see it if they are say 10 and under. Maybe 13 and under. The underlying story would be lost and sometimes the movie could be a little on the creepy side.

GodModule 05-04-2007 12:06 PM

I've seen it a week ago or so ._. someone recommend it to me and I liked it a lot! It was cool ^^ the Faun like creature looked amazing and the creature with the eyes in the hand was kick ass O_O They should make more adult fairytales xD

Amy 05-05-2007 08:45 PM

Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies ever. I have a strong phobia of blood, but despite that, I wouldn't mind watching it over again and again (and now I know when exactly to close my eyes!)

This movie WAS gorey, but it was all intentional and helped contribute to build the movie's main antagonist's character, I believe. I do wish there was less blood, though.

I absolutely ABHOR movies that are dubbed in English just because the original was filmed in a foreign country. I was extremely delighted to find out that Pan's Labyrinth was subtitled. I also admit that it helped to avert my eyes during the gorey parts.

And finally, even though I saw this movie a long time ago when it was first in theaters, I'm STILL scared of pale man. D:

Szinriia 05-10-2007 03:43 PM

I loved it.

I think the violent and bloody scenes were very important. It was a war film afterall! The fantasy sequences contrasted with the war story made it all the more gritty, real and hard-hitting.

I've seen films with a lot more gorey and extreme scenes, but the bottle scene was one of the most horrible scenes I have ever watched.

Donna 05-10-2007 06:20 PM

  • The movie was great.
    Though I got a little confused in some parts because I had no subtitles on my ...downloaded version. And I don't speak too much spanish. >>;
Although I was still able to follow along in most parts, and found it interesting and amazing. <3
    I definitely want to get the DVD...no idea when it comes out...or when it did? o.0;

Alegretto 05-10-2007 06:24 PM

I don't believe it's out on DVD yet. It should be out soon, though. Veeery soon. I saw an ad at the video store, but I've forgotten the exact date.

kumikoXdaisuke 05-11-2007 05:24 AM

I agree

I agee with you. It was one of the best movies I have seen! Despite reading subtitles, it was an awesome movie. I loved Mercedes Lullaby!
I think it was the cutest song ever.

But the door she went into where the creature ate the fairies was such a cool part in the movie! I want to see it again. Alot of my friends said they wouldn't see it because they didn't want to read subtitles and that is such a shame! I want them to see it so badly, movies with subtitles are not so bad I mean Apacolypto was such a beautiful movie.

But the ending to Faun's Labrinth was so great. I was so happy for her and yet I was so sad that she died. I was at a mixed feelings of crying for sorrow and joy for her.
I also really like Faun.
Although I thought he was evil at first he turned out to be so cool!
He seemed like one of those really old Grandparents that always knows the right things in life. But despite all the depressing things in that movie I thought it was really one of the best movies I have ever seen. I would definitly go see that over something like Pirates of the Carribean.

Man 05-11-2007 05:24 AM

I wanted to see that movie so badly when it was playing in theatres, though I never had the chance/time. I heard it was really gorey from certain people and they advised me not to see it. But I'm not them. xD My boyfriend's planning to buy the DVD, so I can't waaait. <3

k4it0u 05-11-2007 12:23 PM

Ah, I've seen the commercial for this <3.
Can't wait til I see it X3!

Morien 05-14-2007 10:46 PM

This goes on the list of my favorite movies. It treads the fine lines between fairy tale and horror, fantasy and reality. And I came out of the movie wanting to see it again. Both times.

All the art that went into it is astounding. The music, the costumes, the cinematography, etc... it was all breathtaking.

This is one movie I'm definitely buying when I have money.

bslayer 05-16-2007 04:54 PM

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm planning on going to the store tonight to buy the DVD so me and my oldest brothers can watch it. I thought the story idea was so well done, I was also upset when it didn't win best foreign film (even though I hadn't seen it yet xP), because I was sure it was wonderful ^^ I actually got my idea for my final research paper in my fairytales class by watching it, and then reading The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe during class.

Heysuesita 10-19-2007 01:37 AM

Every aspect of El Laberinto del Fauno proves that it's bound to become a classic. The direction and acting are superb and the visual only leaves you wishing that there was more coming.

There are times when you root for sweet Ofelia in her tasks to take back her place in her fathers kingdom only to later turn around and want to die when she's hurt. The characters all have aspects of their personality that you both love and hate.

Mercedes was likely my favorite character, the image of a strong and level headed woman. I cried so much when she hummed her lullaby at the end.

I must say that I'm an avid user of the original title as Del Toro has stated that the Faun in the film is not Pan. And who are we to go against his word, right? <3

Gwendill 10-19-2007 01:49 AM
