It's NOT the third season! There are 26 seasons!
You didn't read what I wrote there. Martha is the second companion to the tenth doctor. But the next one is the woman from the runaway bride. Which I believe I covered by saying the "FOURTH seasons companion" IE the THIRD companion for the tenth doctor. |

oh? What kind of stuff get's missed out on your end?
|
really its not much its just small details that answer some of the wait did i just miss something type of stuff. i think its cus the people that air it here need to cut some out for commercial space. But still i p refer the whole thing. Its been awile since ive watched it in either though. is waiting fotr ity to start up heere again. i no longer get bbc :(
|
Ahhh that makes sense. The BBC doesn't interupt it's shows for commercials so there's no room in their shows for them.
|
yeah i know thats one of the reasons i loved the bbc. that and Dr. Who and All in the Family
|
I love the BBC for doctor who and blakes 7
|
What is blakes 7 about? do they still show Monty Pythons Flying Circus?
|
It's about... a spaceship and it's crew.
See the Federation owns Earth and a lot of space. Blake is a political activist trying to take down the tyranical Federation, only it doesn't work, he gets sent to a penal colony, along with Cur Avon, Gan, Villa, Jenna and a few others. Well on the way to the penal colony there's a battle and the penal ship encounters an empty but superior ship, so they send people accross to investigate, who promptly die. So they send Blake, Jenna and Avon across. Excellent move. See Avon is a computer genius, and disarms the security. Jenna is a pilot who can fly anything and they fly away with their ship. The Liberator. What Jenna doesn't know, the ships computer Zen fills in. So they rescue Villa (theif) and Gan (Murderer) from the penal colony and Blake tries to take down the federation. Along the journey they pick up a telepath (Cally) and the most superior computer in the Galaxy (Orac). Lot's of adventures, lots of fighting, lots of deaths. It's great! I actually like it more than Doctor Who, and I think my posts show how fanatical I am about Doctor Who. |

I'm afraid I've only seen the recent three series, but I'm an addict of those (I was given all the DVDs for my 18th birthday - bestpresentever!)
*cough* It has nothing to do with the fact I've had a crush on David Tennant since Casanova and accurately predicted RTD would write his Doctor that way. ^///^ Ohgosh, I might get to meet John Barrowman if I miss a lesson shortly - he's doing a booksigning in a city nearby me next week, and I would die to go. xD My friend and I missed the film crew by a week when we went to stay in Cardiff (we have a photo of us trying to infiltrate the Hub.) As for Doctor Who, it's been background noise to me since childhood - for no particular reason we used to shout "EXTERMINATE" at each other in the playground, though I'd not seen an episode and picked it up off another kid. Plus my parents occasionally made references. :3 I also first the first series of Torchwood, am watching the second as it's on, and loved The Sarah-Jane Adventures too. When I have the funds or the time, I'll get hold of some of the older series and see if I enjoy them so much. :3 I probably will. I'm addicted to listening to the radio versions of H2G2, and I know Douglas Adams wrote a couple of episodes for DW, linked to the people of Cricket, if I'm not mistaken. Stirring any memories? Eagerly awaiting the new series. :3 Chai's DT chibi! - http://chaitealatte.deviantart.com/a...-Time-60130982 |
I am really looking forward to the season starting up again. My mate absolutely hates the girl from the Runaway Bride episode and he says that he hopes they kill her off and get a new companion quickly. I kind of agree...
|
@Maebkitty - Aww, I'm afraid I'd have to stick my tongue out at your friend; Catherine Tate was finally endeared on me through Doctor Who (but in particular the Comic Relief special, "My mistress's eyes are nothing like the sun!" "Are you in love with Billy Piper, sir?"), although I found her own show a bit... well, I didn't think it was the funniest thing on TV, so never watched much. I think she's a very clever and talented woman, though her style of comedy isn't really to everybody's taste. xD
The last I heard, she's there for at least half the series - and Martha returns part way through. Her performance was so good in Torchwood! *3* I don't know about a new companion, though. At least from The Runaway Bride, I think she can do serious as well as silly. We'll just have to wait and see... |
I have to say that my favourite Doctor is the 8th. He was such a unique Doctor as he has transcended over every aspect of fandom and media like no other has. His novels, more than others, I believe, are so vivid and rich. Especially when he loses his memory, and his adventures with Sam.
That being said, thus far, Father Time is his best adventure. However, my favourite companion has to be Ace. She was amazing, and I really wish that she would have been able to become a Time Lord. For those of you not familiar, there was an unaired episodes where Ace would have gone to the same academy that the Doctor attended. As well, the novels following her are also amazing. But, for my favourite episode of the new series... It has to be Doomsday. The emotional energy and the inner turmoil is breathtaking. He had lost everything, and then loses it all again. Chaitealatte & Maebkitty: Donna (the girl in Runaway Bride) will be there as a full companion for the entire series. However, Rose, Jack and Martha return part-way through the series. :) |
I hate that tate woman. Everytime I see her I get an urge to kill something. I won't be watching dr who while she's in it. One episode was enough, I hated her that much!
|
If you think the runaway bride is bad, you should look up Peri. No I can't remember which Doctor got stuck with her but I'm surprised he didn't snap and lose all sanity.
Ace is my fave assistant, followed closely by Romana. I think she was in the story arc with David Tennant and The Master. I have a theory that the woman on The Master's arm was Romana and that she picked up the ring at the end. I love the fourth doctor. It takes a very brave man to go up to a Dalek and ask if it wants a jelly baby. K9 (the original one) was brilliant too. I love him to bits. The BBC seem to have predicted the Aibo with K9. |
My favourite Doctor so far has to be the 10th one, David Tennant, but as for a favourite episode, I don't know. I love pretty much all the ones with the Darleks xD.
My housemate told me one about the Darleks and Cybermen having a sort of 'bitch fight', lol, but I haven't seen that one yet |

Oh god, Peri... Listening to audio adventures with her is painful. So are watching the episodes that she is in. Seriously, painful. She whines like it's going out of style...
I think Catherine Tate's character will be a nice change. So far, everyone has fallen in love with the Doctor. Hopefully, this series won't have yet another person falling in love with him. *fingers crossed* |
I really like it *.*
One of my friends showed me one of the episodes 2 month ago xDDD The episode with the titanic was really great xDDD My favorite doctors are 5 and 10 ^^ |
Poor sad, dead thread...I'll revive you. :D
My mom grew up watching Doctor Who [Mainly Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, though she's old enough to have watched it from William Hartnell] and I've just started watching the "New Who", with Eccelston and Tennant. Thanks to YouTube I've been getting interested in the Original Who. All the different Doctors are so amazing, I really can't play favorites. Patrick Troughton [2] is so hilarious and energetic, and so is Tom Baker [4]...Sylvester McCoy [7] is also wonderful to watch. And even though the movie wasn't all that great, I adored Paul McGann's version of The Doctor. But, since he was my first, All my love goes to Ten. :D :!: |
I've seen a few of the real old episodes of Dr. Who late at night on PBS. I have to agree that the incredibly horrible special effects are wonderful. Honestly, the first time I saw it I only kept watching out of a sort of sick train wreck like facination with the awful special effects.
I don't know enough to choose my favorite of the Doctors. I have only really seen about half a dozen episodes in all and those where all random Doctors. The one I remember the most though had crazy wild, almost fro-like curly hair and a scarf that was so long he almost tripped over it a few times. |
That was Tom Baker, the 4th doctor. I loved that scarf, and he's so animated and cooky.
And as far as the effects, it's like one of those "it's so bad, it's good" situations. It's the same thing with the costumes and monsters...just so classic. |
I've seen many of the old episodes of Dr. Who (that you CAN see - many of the old episodes are lost forever) so I'm familiar with most of the old doctors. I've seen ALL the episodes of the Doctors 1-6 that aren't lost forever; although I don't remember specifics of many of the episodes, I know the doctors very well.
1 - William Hartnell. I loved the first doctor. He was the most "human" of all of them, because during that series they hadn't decided at that point that he was an alien. The girl Lucy called him her "grandfather" (later they changed it that he had adopted her, not that he was her real grandfather), but my friends and I often referred to that run as "Doctor Ian". The reason? The doctor often was relegated to a back seat, while Ian (one of his companions) was the strong male hero type that always saved the day. Note that this was NOT what happened in later incarnations. 2 - Patrick Troughton. Not too impressed by him, probably because his haircut reminded me of one of the three stooges. :) I'll admit I haven't seen a whole lot of his series, mostly because many of those episodes have been lost or were damaged and are irreparable. :( I did see the episodes of his that they still had 10-20 years ago, but for whatever reason he never really "clicked" for me. 3 - Jon Pertwee. I liked him. His version of the doctor was stuck on Earth for his entire run. The reason? The BBC was going to cancel the series completely because it was too expensive for the special effects and costuming (!) (yes, this is *despite* the fact that the special effects were so low-budget) so they came up with the idea of keeping it on Earth so it would make things a bit easier. The excuse they gave in-story was that the Time Lords weren't happy with the Doctor interfering with all these other worlds, so they disabled something in his TARDIS somehow. He drove a car he called "Bessie" for that run, and his "companion" was the Brigadier General, among others. (The Brigadier General is famous for the line, "One of these days I would like for us to be invaded by something that is NOT immune to bullets!") 4 - Tom Baker. The fourth, and "THE" Doctor to many. I love him. I have some friends that are violently in love with him, and feel that any other Doctor is a fake or a sham. Well, he was certainly the most "fun" - very whimsical and funny, yet very intellectual. He had a way of playing with words and teasing you that would leave the villains too confused to react. He also invented the limitless pockets in his trenchcoat, and of course had the signature scarf. My understanding is that each stripe of the scarf represented a different companion (up to that point) with the width of the stripe representing how long each companion was with him. He had some very ODD companions, including Chameleon (a creature who changed appearance/personality depending upon whoever was near him with the strongest personality), Turles (an "English schoolboy" who looked like he was far too old to be in school for one, and for another turned out to be an alien pretending to be from Earth), and a robotic dog. He was also accompanied at one point by another Gallifreyan; he was the only Doctor to have a companion of his own race. Romanadvoratrelundar had a very strong personality of her own, and finally gave him a run for his money after all the whiny companions the fourth doctor seemed to gather up to that point. There were some awesome storylines during his run, including "Trial of a Time Lord" which was the storyline that ran through an entire season. 5 - Peter Davison. He pissed off many "loyal" viewers who had grown so used to Tom Baker (Tom was on for something like 7 seasons, after all) that many refused to accept him. This was a shame, as Peter Davison was an incredible actor. He'd actually made his name playing in "All Creatures Great and Small" on BBC earlier, so had a large fanbase. Unfortunately, it was NOT the same fanbase that watched Doctor Who. He also started out his run being a bit "whiny"; the writers decided to make the regeneration a difficult one, and this caused his character to seem needy and confused and stupid for the first few episodes. His run was marked by the first death of a companion. That was the only episode where the final credits were not accompanied by the usual music, but were completely silent in respect for his death. 6 - Colin Baker. There were rumors when he first took the role that he was the younger brother of Tom Baker. I don't know the veracity of those rumors, but I doubt they are true. Colin Baker was very energetic, and the most athletic Doctor up to that point. He also loved cats, so he added a cat pin to the lapel of his trench coat. Otherwise he kept pretty close to the same outfit as Peter Davison. I can't remember if he used Tom Baker's scarf or not. I disliked Peri, but I never saw the end of his run so I don't know if he ended with her or someone else. 7 - Sylvester McCoy. Never watched any episodes with him. They never aired where I lived, so I never got to see them. From his looks, however, it appeared to me they were trying too hard to have him look like Tom Baker, but they failed miserably. Can't say anything about his run. 8 - Paul McGann. It seems cheesy to me to give an entire regeneration to an actor who was only on for a SINGLE episode/movie. I liked the movie OK, but not as a Doctor Who movie. They tried WAY too hard to have him look/act like Tom Baker, except with an American actor. Doctor Who isn't Doctor Who without a British accent. :) 9 - Chris Eccleston. Amazing actor. They chose Chris specifically because it had been 20 years since a real Doctor Who episode (I'm not counting the movie garbage) and he was very big in the UK. They also wised up and realized they shouldn't try so hard to recapture Tom Baker. It isn't going to happen, and it's only going to alienate fans if they keep trying. Best bet was to do as they did; pick someone completely different, who could bring something new to Doctor Who. Chris did, and did it well. He left, however, because he was bored, and he didn't want to be typecast in that role. 10 - David Tennant. I doubt David is going to be leaving anytime soon. First off, unlike Chris, he grew up with the old episodes and was a BIG fan. (Chris was never a big Doctor Who fan, he admitted that in an interview.) For David, playing Doctor Who was a dream come true. I seriously doubt he will give it up easily. David also is a big name in the UK. He's played some amazing villains; in fact, I think the Doctor may have been his first big non-villain role. :) I like him, and I feel he brings back some of the old whimsy to the show. Chris was harsher and darker, but that was because he needed to be; he was supposed to be showing the Doctor's reactions from right after his entire race had been destroyed, so there would be a lot of grief, anger, and bitterness over that fact. The change to the prettier David Tennant showed that the Doctor was getting over some of his anger and bitterness, and starting to move on again. Yeah, I've been watching Doctor Who forever. :) I am also a big fan of Torchwood, despite its horror aspects at times. One thing most new fans are probably unaware of, the Doctor is only supposed to have 13 regenerations. Time Lords are normally limited to 13 regenerations (meaning up to 14 "faces") but when Gallifrey was destroyed, something happened that removed The Doctor's limitation with that. They never really explained exactly WHY that limitation was removed (I don't think), but I think the writers realized that so many of his regenerations had already been used that they were going to end up being stuck in a few years if they didn't change that rule. :) I hope people don't get upset over my long post. I just thought I would explain some of the older doctors to some of the newer viewers. :) |
Wow! You're just loaded with opinions, aren't you? LOL!
Well, personally, I just love Patrick Troughton's doctor. He was kind of cooky, like a funny grandfather or something. And I also have a thing for short men, so the "Cosmic Hobo" has a special place in my heart. You definitely need to watch some Sylvester McCoy episodes, he is really awesome. One particular episode I really liked was "Delta and the Bannermen". Just some notes, the doctor's granddaughter is named Susan. The "school boy" is Vislor Turlough [who is a Trion]. And Paul McGann is British [from Liverpool, I think]...Oh, and no, Colin and Tom are not related. |
