THERE WAS A NAKED MAL?

Funny how it was "all part of the plan" |
I am completely addicted to Firefly/Serenity. The show is amazing and I really wish it wasn't canceled. I really liked the movie too, it tied up loose ends, had some nice actions and was over-all great.
I really like how Joss stuck to having no sounds in the space scenes in the movie, like he did in the show. I believe there is still a effort going to get a second movie made. I know I read an article where all the actors said that they would like to do another one, but I don't think the browncoat nation is as up in arms about getting a second movie made as they were the first movie. I think it's because of certain events from the first movie. Yes that is indeed Nathan Fillion in the advertisement for the new tv series Drive. I am so excited for that show. Oh and a few really random notes. I am addicted to the new show "The black donnellys", but it's getting canceled and in an article talking about it's cancellation the writer compared it to Firefly, talking about how it didn't get enough advertisements and it was in a time-slot of doom. Also a friend of mine went to a browncoat convention at disneyland and a few of them randomly bumped into Johnny Depp and he said he was a browncoat too!! |
I finally got around to watching this recently and I must say I was blown away. I'm officially a Browncoat. It wasn't perfect, but there was so much POTENTIAL that it makes me ache to think of what it could become. And when what it became was the movie ... man. If the series could have evolved to that point on its own after a few seasons, it would have been legendary.
The acting was fantastic and apart from Jayne and Simon and River (who varied between likeable and despicable depending on the episode) I loved every character unfailingly (and even with Jayne, Simon, and River, I usually liked them apart from a couple of annoying/grating moments). Kaylee = <3, mostly because she reminds me of my girlfriend. And Wash, because he reminds me of me. (Except I look more like Mal, but with a normal nose). Aw, hell, I love them all. I can't wait for the next Firefly comic series, especially because it's a prequel to Serenity, so the casualties sustained there will be back. It's supposed to be about what happens when a heist goes right and the crew finds themselves rich xD Maybe it that does well, we'll see a "Firefly: Season 2" in comic form like Buffy or another Serenity movie. Fingers crossed ... there's a lot of stuff left to be revealed (although I think I've a pretty good inkling as to what Shepherd Book's secret is ...) |
I would love to see that comic book form. Provided it was well done. There are far too many slap and go comics out there.
Yes, I suppose I can call myself a browncoat at this point. I've done my fair share of converting people to the Firefly cause. I actually saw Serenity first. I thought it was interesting, but aside from the coolness that was River kicking Reaver ass, I wasn't about to go out and buy the series. Then my brother did just that and introduced me to Firefly and I was bowled over with how amazing it was. I am eternally impressed with how Whedon seamlessly fit a Western and a Sci-Fi show together. It's so realistic and yet so far removed from reality... it's the perfect series. I wish Fox hadn't killed it the way that they did. For heaven's sake, they didn't even air the first episode first! You wonder how these people ever got jobs in the first place. Hm... favorite characters... well, River. I can really sympathize with her a lot. Which sounds weird, but oh well. I love everyone, though. And cry every time I watch the movie for certain happenings. >.> |
I've seen Serenity a couple of times, I liked it but not enough to get drawn into watching the series.
I am a Joss Whedon fan though, I have/seen every episode of Buffy, and the same with Angel. I prefer Angel to Buffy in many respects though.. My fiance bought the Firefly series on DVD, he likes it alot I do think Adam Baldwin is hot though heh..maybe I'll watch it some day |
Hehe i had to go back and look through the pages to see if anyone had done this series and movie because i love it so much.
i too am a browncoat and a fan of the show. It was aired and cancled well before its time. If it had been done in say a few years it probably would have done better for ratings. but its hard to choose a single charecter to love as they were all wonderful. i own both the series and the movie and watch them alot of the time. ive even converted a few of my friends to the series. which reminds me i need to look for that comic book they said they were making to go with the series. Long live brown coats!! |
I've seen Serenity and liked it very much. I had no idea it was based off a TV series though. Now that I know that, some of the oddities would probably become less odd if I saw the series. It always seemed to me that the movie just sort of started up out of no where, like there was something you were supposed to already have known. : ) |
Personally, I absolutely loved Serenity, but I've yet to see the series. I liked the humor, and the originality of the setting. It was sci-fi, but the atmosphere (and clothing, etc) seemed close enough to the present to not seem so overly futuristic.
I have several friends who are absolute fans of Firefly though, so eventually I'll get off my butt long enough to watch them. Especially since it wasn't very long-running. ^^ |
whoa, i am just so shocked that this thread was actually
created xD i LOVE this series, i remember when it was on fox, then it was on sci-fi. i've always been a scifi geek, and this was no exception. i loved river, and her riddled up speech, and mal with wit, [nathan fillion = lurve] and jayne was such a hilarious dork, i died everytime he spoke. serenity the movie, awesome. answered so many questions that the cancelled season couldn't, and i really hope that its gets another comeback, there are so many people that would LOVE to see this series come back from the dead, including myself. |
I orignonally discovered Firefly after watching Serenity and getting totally confused over everything that was happening.
Almost a year ago I met Dean Batali, who helped write the series with, and who is a friend of, Joss Wheden along with Buffy, and That 70's show. What Dean told me and one of my friends was that the show can still be written and filmed, it's just the problem of finding someone who would be willing to air them. Too, one of the history teachers at my school, who is a Joss fan, has met Nathan Fillon and Nathan told her that if the cast and crew were told that another episode was going to be filmed, they would all drop what they were doing and would get to the set immediately. |
I totally love this series. I was introduced to it by some friends and fell in love.
I mean, it's a space western by Joss Wheddon! How can that go wrong?! I own the box set and have watched it and loaned it out many times. (I like converting people to the cause) The movie was good, but totally confusing to people who didn't already know the characters (in my opinion). |
I love the series. I have the box set as well as the movie DVD. I watch it all the time. My friend introduced me to it after it was taken off the air. I just love the characters.

I loveeees firefly <3 sooo much. Show>Movie
Jayne is great (and we share a last name! ha) I have only seen Firefly and serenity thou (no buffy, just a few eppies of Angel but I would watch them if I had them). I had the box set and the movie but they got misplaced a while a go and just*sigh* need to buy them while there is a buy-one-get-one-free box set deal at suncost. anyway off topic. I have heard a rumor that Sci-fi got the rights to Firefly....does anyone know if this is true? or if its going to get picked up? either way I'm a big fan and a brown coat for sure! >3</ all my friends agree we would actually play an mmo if they made one based on Firefly because we all like it so much. |

Sadly I had never heard of Firefly until I moved in with my aunt. She is obsessed with this show! I've only watched a few episodes, I thought it was pretty cool. It was a bit confusing though. After I went back and watched the movie Serenity again, it started to make a little bit more sense.
|
I finally took the time to watch the entire series, and now I'm smitten. It's exactly the kind of show that can keep me hooked. The way it presents itself is so original, and yet it all makes perfect sense. Once we develop the technology to move from planet to planet, of course we're going to develop of class of "settlers" and cowboys again. It's a point-of-view that really hasn't been explored much.
And I love the characters. Zoe is just the perfect heroine, and Wash is the perfect match for her. I love Alan Tudyk anyway. He always seems to show up as the best characters. |
I love this show...
So yeah, i saw the original run of firefly on fox... made my head hurt, BUT i finally got the dvd's and i watched the whole series AND i watched serenity... one of the best things about the movie was you assume no major character is going to wind up dead (as is the case in 90% of the sci-fi movies of the type) by the end of the movie i was in knots not wanting to look because i was actually worried about the body count.
My favorite characters are a tie between Malcolm and River (i always wondered how she could do all that stuff and how she took down so many reavers, but then i found out shes a terminator so its all explained... hehehehe) I took a serenity personality test on myspace and i wound up getting tied between Mal and Jayne with Mal coming out on top somehow. So i'm currently in mad love with myself. |
Firefly
Another wonderful Jossverse show! Too bad it was cut before it has a chance to bloom. I seriously have no idea why it was cancelled? Who are the losers that didn't watch it?
This show made me love Nathan Fillion just a little bit more (although, I didn't think that possible after seeing him as Caleb in Buffy) and well... the rest of the cast. Excellent! They were all so diverse and it just worked! Who was your favourite character? Is there a hole in your life were Firefly used to be? |
I'm a huge Firefly/Serenity fan. I was so bummed when the show was canceled. :(
|
@Kalliste: The show was cancelled because Fox's management underwent a change. Firefly was the old management's pet project, so to assert authority the new management cancelled it. That's really the main reason why. It had nothing to do with it not being watched enough. There was enough of an outcry when it was cancelled that they made Serenity! They can't bring back the show now though because of contract reasons. I know, it seriously sucks.
I'd have to say that Jayne was my favorite character. He was so funny even though he thought he was all tough. I loved the episode where he got the hat in the mail from his mom and he wore it around everywhere even though it looked ridiculous. <3 |
lol Jayne THOUGHT he was all tough indeed. He seemed fairly scared of the captain to me though :D And how he named his gun lol... sissy buy Jayne!
I liked Firefly much more than Serenity... I liked how Serenity explain the Reavers more and whatnot but killing of the preacher AND Wash... hell no! :D |
What I didn't like so much about the movie is the way that the comraderie was lost. I mean, I realize that the actors hadn't been around each other in a long time, but it felt like the characters were acting the way that they did in the beginning of the series when they didn't know each other well, before they became more like a family, albeit a strange family, but still.
Know what I mean? |
