Any Browncoats in the house?
Firefly was a Sci-fi Western Tv Series by Joss Whedon ((Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Fame)) that was cancelled by fox after showing only 9 episodes. Later 13 episodes of the series came out on DVD, yup that's 4 that were never aired! The show has such a great wit about it, that I recommend you rent or buy the boxset and watch a few episodes.
The fanbase was so strong, that a movie was made about it, Serenity, and while it wasn't a blockbuster, it was satisfying for all the jilted fans of the series. Serisously, how many cancelled shows have you heard get a feature film made?

I liked the series, have yet to see the movie.
Friends were doing vieiwng of it, were we would get otgethert ad watch it and was aksing who was interested, No matter how many times i said I was, I was ignored, and forced to watch the episodes in random order or to watch the same episode twice.
Pretty much just going to buy it myself and give up on watching shows with friends, cause they never listen or care anyways.

Jilted Browncoat on the premises.
Series > film.
I think it's the only series where I can't single out a character that I like more or loathe more than the rest. They're all so amusing.

@ Coli: Alot of people felt robbed by the movie, and personally I'd rather watch the series then the movie, but I still am so happy the movie was made.
@Akasha: Fox showed the series out of the intended order as well, so maybe your friends were showing em that way? The same episode twice? XD Hopefully it was a good one...

Yeah the film really tied a lot of the storylines up. Which is good, seeing as I'd hate to have been left hanging on plotlines after the series got dropped.
Damn shame.

I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan and loved both the film and series. Though sadly I didn't get to see firefly before it was canceled because I didn't have a tv and the time it was on no one could record it for me >.<;

I loved the series and enjoyed the movie. I was upset when they canceled the series.
I don't really think the movie tied up much of the plot though. They took the easy way out with some things. Other things just kind of where left haning. But it did explain some of the things that I had been wondering about. It was pretty good.
It's a shame that the series didn't get to last longer.

I'm a big Joss fan (Buffy + Angel<3), but I didn't like Firefly.
I did recently watch Serenity, though... and it was quite good. I wasn't expecting that.
NOW IF ONLY JOSS WOULD MAKE A BUFFY MOVIE. :(

I'm not a browncoat, but dearly love Joss Whedon and all his works. I'm disappointed Firefly was put on Fridays in the Time Slot of Death - it never really did have a chance.
I did enjoy the movie as well, I thought it was a good introduction to those who may have not seen the series, and also gave the series-lovers a good chunk of Captain Tightpants and the crew. Well, enough to tide us over for a bit. Or forever, as chances are slim they'll ever be back, more's the pity.
I'm also a huge fan of BtVS. I used to post regularly at the Bronze. Those were the days.

I saw the first episode of that, and it was quite good. It's certainly better than a lot of the useless crap that makes it onto tv.

I actually never saw Firefly at all, but I was on a first date with my then-ish boyfriend and he took me to see Serenity. I liked it even though I didn't know much about the show. It was a pretty swell movie in my opinion and I'd watch it again. xD

I've never seen the Firefly series. However, I recently went to Dragoncon (a HUGE sci-fi/fantasy/anime/video game convention) and there were Firefly references everywhere!
I grew curious about the story, and when I got home I noticed that the movie Serenity (I think it was called) was on HBO on Demand! So, I watched it!
I was incredibly bored throughout the entire thing! So bored, in fact, I fell asleep watching it!
I guess it just wasn't for me. ^^;

Oh that's a shame maybe you'll grow into it. Or if you watched the series and loved the characters you would have cared more. It really was a great plot.
As for Dragoncon xD well that's the kind of thing I would have fallen asleep in. -is glad it didn't make much of a bang-

So, just because a series was short and not noticed by you, it automatically must have sucked?
That's a pretty harsh way to look at the world.
Personally, I believe that it could have created a large following, had people had enough time to get used to it AND that stupid time slot. Sometimes Joss takes a while to grow on you. It most definitely was not inappropriate. As for sucking, well, that's a matter of opinion, but all of my friends enjoyed it very much.
Putting a brand new show in a Friday evening time slot is the Kiss of Death almost automatically, and changing the episodes around for no reason also does not help. If it had been put on TV on Tuesdays at 8, there automatically would have been a larger viewership available. Nobody watches TV on Fridays, so likely, no one found the show. I even LOOKED for it and missed the first couple of episodes because of that time slot.
and when a media company decides a show isn't earning enough for them, they pull the plug. There was a devoted watchership, it just wasn't enough for the station. So they went and put some idiotic reality show on instead, or something. If anything, it could be an effective commentary on the idiotic watching habits of America.
Paladin, I admit I find your blanket statement a bit irritating and another word that starts with I. But I'll go with dismissive instead.

I only wtahed the begginning of the serie and totally loved it. I think the whole serie was showed in France but I wasn't resting there at the time.
I loved the concept of it. It really shown a new sci-fi way that wasn't brought up yet. I think it had some fan in france too but was in a none public chanel and most french peple don't have them :?
Most show I tend to like doesn't have any success in USA and are cancel... To bad.

you're right about the time slot...friday nights is what ultimately killed Star Trek
I saw the movie before I saw the episodes of Firefly and I wasn't lost at all. I didn't understand the buzz going on online about Serenity coming out and didn't understand afterwards...until I saw Firefly on Sci-Fi in a marathon. That did it for me.
I love Nathan Fillion anyway. I think he's a hottie much in the same vein as Brendan Fraser (and he used to be on my soap OLTL) so it wasn't much of a leap to love the show and all the characters.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE FIREFLY/SERENITY.
I was never a big fan of Angel/Buffy. But I love, love, love, love, love Firefly.
It also annoyed me so badly how much I wanted Kaylee to get with Simon. Everything going on kept inturrpting them from being happy. :< As Simon always put his sister first.
Not sure if I liked River... I kind of hated her because she kept coming in between Kaylee & Simon. XDDDD !!

I think everyone wanted kaylee and simon to get together X3
I walked in on my mom watching Serenity before I saw the series, was confused, and walked out. and then the next year my roomate made me watch it, and now i'm a full fan. I have watched the movie since then, but i definately prefer Firefly to Serenity.
Is anyone else in love with the theme song? I hate country- but like the song alot.

Omg, yes. Jayne was the bestest ever. <3
But Nathan Fillion is love. Whenever my mom and I watch Firefly, we go all retarded and fangirly on him. He's so haaaawt. xD And he's such a funny guy. And a great actor.
I love this series so much. I need to beat up my friend and get my DVDs back so I can watch it again. And see nekkid Mal. =3333

I love both the series and the movie. A friend of mine had a little Serenity marathon where we saw a few episodes, then the movie. I was instantly hooked. <3 I honestly don't think there's a single character I dislike in Firefly.
Jayne makes me smile every time I see him because of his awesomeness. The same goes for Wash. I mean... he's just hilarious. Introductory scene; he's playing with dinosaurs on the bridge. You don't see THAT too often. XD It made me sad when... that happened to Wash in the movie. *Sniffles*

Aye! Wondrous show, and excellent movie. I think the movie was a good way to give closure to the fans, wondering where it could have gone had it not been canceled. The character set really was quite unique, and the story was way different from any other space series... or really... any other western series as well. My friends and I watched the entire series, and then the movie all in one weekend.
The theme song is awesome, but I kinda ruined it for my friends... they always laugh in the middle because I told them that it sounds like the guy singin' goes "you can't take this guy from me"
Anyway, I'm a big fan of the show, and its actors/tresses. I saw a preview for the new show that's comin' out called Drive, I think... I'm pretty sure I saw the guy who plays Mal in the commercial, and I'm wondering if his presence in this new series alone merits watching it.

*raises hand wildly!* RABID BROWNCOAT IN THE HOUSE!
But, then, I love Joss Whedon. I adore him. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity - everything he does I love. He has the best sense of humor.
Firefly, though, is my favorite. It is just so different and funny and intelligent and the characters are so fun. I'm going to start going into a fangirl babble, I swear I am, but I just love it.
I am also, as a note, a very proud Jayne-hat owner. It's not terribly exact, but it's close enough.
Serenity was truly excellent, but at the end I always have to just...close my eyes because (should I avoid spoilers?) when he dies, I cry. Every time.
