Sin City, the movie.
|
|
I was kind of confused most of the movie but that may have been because I was only half watching it at the time. I did enjoy the cinematography of the movie and the plot that I could follow ^^:
|
Wound up seeing it in the theaters, and watch it at least once a month on DVD.
It wasn't Tarantino's best, but it was still pretty damn good. Marv was an amazing character, and I'm psyched for Sin City 2, as i'd LOVE to see him have a part even half as big in the sequel. I mean, sure, he was an ugly bruiser type, but he had a good heart. And Goldie. |
I haven't seen it, but Tarantino and Rodriguez both worked on it so I feel the need to see it. Plus my friend was telling me about the art style and he said I'd love it, so I'm adding it onto the list on things I feel the need to see.

I love me some Sin City. I haven't read the graphic novels yet, but I intend to someday. All of my hobbies are expensive though and I'm broke. Grr.
|
To me, the movie strikes me as being a bit odd... and rather disgusting. :X BUT, as much as it was like that to me, I still was able to enjoy it and I had fun watching it in theaters. I never did read the comics, and I'm still not sure that I even want to. XD; KEVIN (Elijah Wood) freaked me out sooo bad. >>; That ain't no cute little hobbit, that's for sure. XD

I loved the storylines--all of them. The bit with Jackie-boy was fun, and the deal with Marv was awesome--I liked Marv so much--and I LOVED the storyline with the "Old Man" (saving Nancy). Undoubtedly the best of the three (although the other two were fun).
Edit: And, yeah. Kevin was extremely creepy. I looked at screenshots recently and remembered--it freaked me out. When I saw the Lord of the Rings movies after that, it creeped me out even more. |
I thought Sin City was a fantastic film. It was a perfect transcription of Miller's novels, from the dialogue to the choicely-colored items... even the way things were lit and contrasted looked and felt like Miller's artwork. They picked the right stories for the movie, though lord knows it was a confusing setup for some people. I had to explain to my friend SEVERAL times about the current plot, because she was so confused. The jumps were a bit sudden, but it was done far more interestingly than just placing the stories in chronological order.
I cried when Marv died. >.> Everyone loves Marv. And I'm all excited for Sin City 2, as well. It was my favorite of the original novels, and it shall have MARV. And DWIGHT. AT THE SAME TIME. I squee with giddiness. |
If you liked the cinematography/coloring, I seriously recommend looking at Renaissance--at least from an artistic perspective. It's animated, but it's all black/white, with very few shades of gray (as far as I can recall, gray shows up in a person's glasses, which is more to keep true to the glass-effect than anything else). It's awesome. (And I can't wait for the new one, either. I thought that I read it was coming out THIS year, but obviously not.... I liked the books too. I don't remember which one I enjoyed most.)
|
Awesome. I shall look into that.
Who's the author of the books, perchance? :o |
The Sin City books are by Frank Miller.
|
Pff. Know that. Own the whole series. ;o
I thought you meant books in relation to Renaissance. The ideas were kinda clumped together, so the ever-confusable 'gretto got confused. |
Okay. See, I wasn't sure if you meant the "Sin City" books or the "Renaissance" books...... I don't think there are any of those, no. Just a film. (I could be wrong, though.)
|
I definitely had to see the movie like, three times before I connected the fact that the assassin at the beginning is the same one throughout the movie, just with different faces XP Yay for red converse! He was definitely my favorite character o.o; I'm crazy for him.
|
I like Dwight. I think he's the coolest character. I like him because he has no motivation beyond the fact that it's just what he does.
Marv did it for Goldie, Bruce Willis did it for Nancy, and Josh Hartnett did it for the money, but I think Dwight was just genuinely trying to do the right thing because it's the right thing. I like that. But honestly, I can't think of a character I didn't enjoy. Except for... Dwight's girlfriend. The waitress, not the whore. I forgot the name of the character, and the actress, but the actress really ruined the character I thought. "You damn fool, you damn fool..." Yeah, ham it up a little more please, we want jews to feel guilty. (because orthodox jews don't eat pork, I think. You probably knew that, but I didn't want someone to think that was anti-semetic) But yeah, other than that, and that one part where Bruce Willis and his partner are talking at the acting is as dynamic and compelling as a brick wall, the whole movie was golden. I think it's pulp fiction, but who says pulp fiction can't be high art? Not me, that's who. |
i thought this movie was a total disappointment..
artistically it was an amazing film however i found the story lackluster compared to the comic itself. Good that Bruce Willis was in it though!! |
I liked it a lot. It was pretty weird but it was good to me.
|
excellent move. wonderful cinematography. I wish I owned it. I probably will now that I remembered it. Tarantino's films are always wonderful. though I actually don't remember any of the characters names, but there faces are running through my head and my favorite had to be the Japanese chick. she is hot and she kicked butt.
|
Yeah I thought it was a really cool movie! It had an amazing style. The storylines were kind of short, but really well made. The action was brought as if it were a comic into motion.
So yes, I like it. Im hoping for a sequal cause the ending just left too much of a mystery. |
I never read the sin city comic, but almost all of my friends who had actually read the comic liked the movie a lot, I know I really liked the movie I thought it was really good.
|
I never really read any of the comic books and honestly, I wasn't too impressed with the storyline for the movie. I will say, however, that the cinematography and special effects for that movie were incredible. I love when certain colors are overdone to make things more dramatic, but Sin City took it to a new level. I would watch that movie again just for the visual end of things, even having not been impressed with the story.

Sin City was great. I really enjoyed it.
I didn't expect much substance, and the characters were all laughable. Still, it was great. Visually what I expect from a Frank Miller adaptation. My favorite scene and character was Kevin. Elijah Wood was a little young looking and "pretty" to play the character but it was well done nonetheless... I think they are making a sequel and I anticipate that. |
