Bridge to Terabithia
I just got done watching this movie (I have a friend who works at Blockbuster and gets the news movies before their street releases) and I have to say I was pretty darn impressed.
The CGI at times was pretty bad, but the story was very sweet. It was done from a book, right? I've never read it, but the movie has a really good flow to it so I imagine it follows the story fairly well. It's from Disney and Walden who did Narnia together so yeah. It's a kids movie, but I wasn't bored through the slow areas at all. I recommend grabbing up a copy on Tuesday if you haven't already seen it. |
I read the book a couple years ago but I didn't follow it well. Because of that, I didn't think I'd like the movie. I don't know though, if I ever get bored I'll try to find it I guess. I just gotta watch about 50 other movies first...

That's how it is in the book. Which was amazing, by the way. Not just because I got 105 on my crappy project on it.... I thought the ending was perfect. I haven't seen the movie, but the book was great. I love sad endings. |
The twist at the end was great, IMHO! Minor spoilers: He liked the younger girl, but could not shake the immature crush on the music teacher. It was realistic.
And a death in a non-animated Disney movie is... so surprising! (Mod edit for spoilers) |
In all honesty, I didn't like the book so I was never really planning on seeing the movie >.>; That's just how I am... Even though the movie looks completely different from what the book was about, I still probably won't go out of my way and rent it... That's just how I am with these things...
Just like The Chronicles of Narnia. I couldn't get through the book and I'll probably never go out of my way in order to watch the movie. |
I read the book when I was younger. To this day, it's one of my favorites. I haven't seen the movie, yet, though. I'm almost afraid it won't do justice to the book. All the CGI in the trailers and commercials doesn't help alleviate my fears. :?

The movie is actually astonishingly close to the book. The things they change are mostly updating type things, and ways to show stuff that isn't visible in the books (like Jesse's relationship with his dad and stuff). I loved the book as a kid-- it was one of the few books that has ever made me cry, and I love the movie now-- again, one of the few movies that has ever made me cry.
It's beautiful, and I'm sorry if you were disappointed by expecting them to go to the magical world, but if you'd done a bit more research, you'd have known that wasn't what it's about. And if you'd kept your mind open, you might've still enjoyed it even so. |

That pretty sums it up for what I was going to say... ^^; |
lol i have a friend that works at hollywood video and she rents them early for us to watch together as well.
i dont remember reading the book when i was younger but as i watched the movie i was able to pick out what was going to happen and so im lead to believe that i did read the book because it all seemed so familiar. i thought the main actress was really pretty too. and i loved that she could wear colors and pull it off. XD in any case i loved the movie. its totally worth buying (: oh and i didnt like the chronicles of narnia. i dont think they followed the book very well and i didnt like alot of the acting done. the entire movie fell short of what i was hoping for. </3 |
OMG I brought my friend to see that movie after reading the book a few times as a child I knew what was going to happen and she didn't. KNowing what was going to happen I was crying before anything even happened and trying to hide it from her and by the end we were both balling our eyes out.

Amazing. I think people who thought it was going to be a fantasy epic totally never read the book or just got washed in by all the images of it being a fantasy epic. It was in away a fantasy film but in a different view that made it more realistic and fun. The CGI effects were actually good but it was made to be childish and in away not so realistic. That is why many people didn't like the CGI as much. Like any CGI films there is always flaws.
I thought it was excellent and it gave children a chance to see what their imagination can take them too. The ending of course was horribly sad but that is the story and how the author wanted it to be. But at least the ending was happy. |
We're going to borrow it today! The commercial was outstanding! My friend Cassie said that the book was bad. Hmm! O:

Ah, ok! n_n
Darn..Dad said that I couldn't because we're already buying snacks for tommorow's trip. ._. Apparently a hyper pair of kids are enough to drive a dad crazy. xP |
I really liked this film, I have not read the book though.
I liked that it was what it was... not a full fantasy film. And I liked the ending, and the character driven story. |
I just watched that movie last night. I haven't read the book either, but I'm familiar with the cover of the book if that makes a difference.
I give it 4.5/5 stars. It wasn't the best it could be, but it was pretty darn good. Leslie, the main girl, was absolutely adorable. I spent the entire movie saying that I either wanted to be her, or I wanted one. The actress who played her (who you may recognize as the same girl who played Violet in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) was very good and I thought she had a firm grasp on the character. Jesse, the main guy, was also very good, though not nearly as adorable. His actor has also been in many flicks, including Zanthura. Both of the actors did a great job of demonstrating the emotions and imaginations of the movie. I enjoyed the plotline, partly because I was the same kind of person as a kid. No matter where I went, I merged my surroundings to fit into whatever magical world I was creating at that point (it changed often). In a world where kids are being raised by TVs and computers, I think a movie like this that shows the power of imagination is almost a medicine. It is a kids movie, but I wouldn't recommend it for young kids. Bad things happen, and it could cause some nightmares. That's all. ^-^ |

Bridge to Terabithia is nothing like the Chronicles of Narnia. It is not about some kids who discover a magical land. |

I see there are some mixed feelings about this film ^^
I can clearly understand how it was different from the book, but films always will be, and I think the film was great on it's own, and one should appreciate that instead of looking for flaws... I just saw it yesterday, without knowing anything about it from before, not even that it was based on a book. I had seen a poster, so I knew about the nice giant, and the dog, and I (judging by the title) also knew it would have something fantasy-ish in it... I was, however, surprised by the plot. I had no idea it would be like that, but I really liked it... The characters were real, the plot was different, the scenery beautiful etc. It made me cry, and that doesn't happen very often... I also liked it because of it's very clear, but somewhat hidden message, that imagination can enrich ones lives and make them better, and that being outdoors an using your own mind can be better than sitting inside watching stuff other people made up on the telly... I really liked it, and it actually inspired me to chase more activly after my dream of becoming a writer... It was great, if you ask me ^^ |
