Red Dwarf

Short Summary from Amazon: Three million years ago, a radiation leak killed the crew of the mining ship, Red Dwarf. The only survivor was Dave Lister, the chicken soup machine repairman. He spends his time on the ship with a holographic projection of Arnold Rimmer (his dead bunkmate), Cat (a life-form that evolved from Dave's cat), Holly (the ship's senile computer), and Kryten (a service mechanoid).

So who else adores this show? I was just introduced about a month ago, and I can't get enough. I was too young to watch this when it first came out, but I'm making up for lost time at this point by going absolutely nuts over it now that I have heard of its existence. It's smegging genius.

This show is insanely hilarious. I love the interactions between everyone, especially in the first few seasons. The sort of commentary on cat behavior is brilliant. My favorite character is Rimmer, but I absolutely adore Lister and Holly as well.

So if you like British humor, sci-fi, or both... or you're already a smeghead, here are links to the first episode on Youtube.

Emergency. Emergency. There's an emergency going on. - Holly

I didn't see a thread for this since April, so I made one. Please lock this up if I'm in error here.

Okay, I've never heard of Red Dwarf before, but I watched the first episode on youtube and I thought it was hilarious, too. You've made an official fan of me, but it'll be hard finding episodes over here in the U.S.A. x.x

Better Dead Than Smegged.

Been a fan for years, ever since my dad introduced me. I'm so proud to be English. ='D

When you say your favourite character is ol' Flared-Nostrils, do you mean because he's the funniest? Surely you don't admire his character? .__.;;;

Anyway... I adore the show. n.n

Oh, and I've watched the series in a very odd order- my dad's terrible at buying DVDs. xD Season 6 here, season 1, season 8.. etc. I'm not even certain I've seen the whole thing, but I've seen a lot... and one thing's for sure...

It's smegging brilliant.

sayuri_nitta 07-21-2007 11:22 AM

It's such a funny show XD
I have the first few series on video, I need to replace them and get all of them on DVD ^_^

My mom and brother love that show. I've seen 3 seasons and I still dont' find it funny, or even that entertaining. I just watch it for something to do. It has potential but it wasn't something that I was very interested in.

Oh heavens no. Dear Rimsy is just incredibly amusing. Plus he is strangely attractive. Tunnel-sized nostrils and all. Honestly, I have no idea why I adore him so much. Maybe it's just because he sort of fills in where Lister lacks or something. But that doesn't make sense at all. lol

Yay! I'm so glad to meet other fans! ^-^

*laughs*

The one with the two Rimmer's was funny

'Gazpacho soup!'

Oh, I love Red Dwarf.
Back in December 2003 the BBC started repeating episodes of it, really late at night. I stayed up to watch it, and got terribly hooked. Through most of 2004 I was embarrassingly devoted... I still have a silver H lying around in my room somewhere.

Rimmer's definitely my favourite character, since he gets all the best lines, but the rest are great too. Favourite series would be a tie between 2 and 5.

I was just watching Queeg. God, I love Holly. I absolutely love Holly. And as much as I like some of the episodes in the Starbug, I really miss Holly in those.

Also, good news:

If that doesn't work, try news on this site:

I'm torn because on one hand, I feel it's unfair that they left Dr. Who out of the running, but on the other hand, I think it's an honor to be left out because they're just too darn good. And this way, Red Dwarf had a chance to win.

News from the Official Red Dwarf Site: As part of a massive BBC Worldwide campaign, over the next six months clips from every episode - not to mention a few Smeg Ups and Xtended scenes - will be posted. There's also a Worldwide/reddwarf.co.uk competition in the works, so watch out for that in the coming weeks.

I really hope they get the chance to do the movie one day.

Has anyone read the novels?

MikaKai 03-31-2008 01:52 PM

Red Dwarf Fans?

I don't know where most people on here are from, so I'm hoping that there are a few Dwarfers around.
My boyfriend recently got me into it, so now I like to say Smeghead alot X3
YAY Red Dwarf!
Do you lot like it?

KatMagenta 03-31-2008 03:48 PM

I'm from England, but I'm sure that are a lot of Red Dwarf fans all over the world.

My parents have always liked it but one of my close friends at secondary school really got me into it. We used to count down the days until the dvds came out XD

It's sad that they haven't been able to secure the funding for the film though. I want more Red Dwarf!

MikaKai 03-31-2008 06:41 PM

Me too! I have Series 7 on in the background.
I effin' love Lister! He's like me ^^

TheGoddessRhea 08-06-2009 05:40 PM

Androids...everybody needs good Androids...Androids are people too...

Any Dwarfers out there? [And if you don't understand, you don't watch the show]Has anyone seen the end of Red Dwarf? All three epidodes? What did you think about the end?

Lister looked pretty rough, but Craig Charles looked fairly young. I thought that was so odd....Rimmer looked worse for wear. The Cat didn't look that different. I was hopping, in the end; they'd bring back Lister's twin boys, Jim & Bexley; the origininal Holly; and maybe let Lister find Kochanski. But que sera, sera.

Hopefully they'll come out with Series Ten; to end things properly. They used to run the show on BritWit here, on MPT, but now after Are You Being Served [another FABULOUS british show], they run some drab soap opera- "To The Manor Born" XP Ah well. One fan can only hope.

I've gone ahead and merged your Red Dwarf thread with a preexisting one from the Media Index. ;D

Talamasca 08-09-2009 04:51 PM

I love Red dwarf, its smegging awsome. i i likes it for years not sure how long exactly but i always watch when its repeated.:)

Riechan 08-11-2009 02:23 PM

I love Red Dwarf, I first saw it last year on campus when the people in the suite next to my friends invited me to watch it, and I've been hooked ever since. I don't have all of the seasons, but my friends have all the ones I don't so it's not too worrisome. Since there were four of us that watched it together, we would call eachother names of main characters based on our personalities. I was Cat, which makes me seem like a fashion airhead, but I think I was mostly put in that place because my friends were already Rimmer, Kryton, and Lister, and I didn't want to be Katchanski. My favorite character is Rimmer though, and I especially love the episode Quarantine.
