Across the Universe ((There may be spoilers in here))
http://thecia.com.au/reviews/a/image...e-poster-0.jpg
Here is a link to the official website: http://www.acrosstheuniverse.com/ There are trailers in there too. I like how they set up the website. Here is one in case you have trouble finding one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bQ6d3m-GFyw DO NOT QUOTE THE FIRST POST Well, I had to travel an hour to go see this movie because it is only in select theaters. My goodness, it was well worth the drive. There were a couple (I think) of sad parts where I almost cried at (and I never cry during movies). It's the part where there is a scared, little boy trying to stay out of the riots, he is singing "Let it be". It switches to a couple of funerals and in one funeral, you find that the scared, little is in the casket. And another part is when Max gets drafted and you see him fighting in a scene. Suddenly he just stares in one place and the scene cuts to another one. Well, I thought that he was going to die but he doesn't, so don't worry. He just got injured. This movie is my new obsession. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD and I know the soundtrack is out, so I need to go and find it. Oh yeah, this movie is a musical and uses the Beatles songs. The characters names come from the songs too. Can you guess where all the character names come from? Characters: Jude Lucy Max Sadie Jojo Prudence Answers: Hey Jude Lucy in the sky Maxwell's Silver Hammer Sexy Sadie Come Together Dear Prudence Quote:

I was hoping someone would make a thread about this movie. ^^
I haven't seen it yet, but it looks very good. I heard Eddie Izzard is in it (As Mr. Kite) which made me very happy. He's one of my favorite comedians. I also read that Bono is in it, which is pretty cool as well. ^^ It's one of the first movies in a long time that the previews really caught my attention. But then again, that's probably alot because of the Beatles songs. XD |
Yeah, I have been waiting and trying to find a thread about this movie but I didn't find any. Ph yeah, the scene with Eddie Izzard is great. He only appears for one scene, and so does Bono.
|
Aww, only one?
Well, the movie looks great anyway. ^^ |
Yeah I know. But it is still an amazing movie. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD. *squeees*
|
Eh? My picture changed. No fair! *goes and fixes it*

I was watching more trailers for it on Youtube (I'd only seen one on TV), and some little clips of some of the songs, and I have to say, this looks like one of the best movies (for my tastes) that's come out in a long time. I don't know if I'll be able to see it in theaters (it's only in select ones, I think. Plus, I just never go to theaters), but I think I could confidently buy it once it comes out on DVD and not have to worry about having wasted my money on a movie that I may not like.
If for nothing else, the scenes with Bono and Izzard. They look really good. ^^ The whole movie looks good. Ehh, sort of reiterating what I said yesterday, but oh well. XD |
Ha ha ha ha. That's ok. It is an awesome movie. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD. I know I've said it before, but I just really can't help it. I never saw commercials for it, only on youtube. And the theater I went to, the tickets only costed $6.50 (with a student discount). The theater was awesome because it was kept up so that it looked like it did in 1932. The only difference there really is is that they have four theaters instead of one. It was such an amazing theater. I'm a sucker for the old theaters, even if that was the first one I've ever been in.

Across the Universe :3
Alright, so I really don't know how many of you have seen this movie, considering the release dates were all kinds of odd, and it was released at more theaters at later dates, but I'm curious to know what the people who actually saw it, think of it.
Yes, it's a musical, and yes, all the songs are Beatles songs, so it's kind of an acquired taste because it's also very artsy [which I love personally], but the storyline is so sweet. It's set in the 60's with the Vietnam war breaking out and such, and a couple's struggle to stay together in hard times of drugs, war, protests, etc. The main girl's brother is called off to fight because of the draft and her boyfriend doesn't support all of her protesting. Quoting IMDB: "A dock worker Jude travels to America in the 1960s to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy. When her brother Max is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism." Yeah, I personally give the movie a 9/10 because it was so powerful, visually attractive, and moving. I want to know though, for those of you who HAVE seen it, what did you think of it? And for those of you that have NOT seen it, do you have any interest in seeing it? Why or why not? |

I did see the movie, and I loved it! :D
When I went into the theatre, I honestly thought it would suck. I love the Beatles dearly, but I wasn't so sure about a movie written around their songs. But within a few minutes into the film, I was happily into it. The film was a visual extravaganza, with wonderful actors, a powerful message, and an awesome updated soundtrack. Although the it loses focus in a few scenes,I recommend Across the Universe highly to any Beatle fan or art student; two thumbs up, hands down. |
The music in this is great! The Beatles rock! My friend went to go see it and couldn't stop talking about it for the next week.
I want to see it so bad. |
I saw Across the Universe, and I was kind of disappointed in it...
The main problem I had with it was that there was not much of a plot, and the plot that was there was not that great. As for the songs, I really like the Beatles, and I thought that most of the songs were done well, but songs like "I want to hold your hand" and "I am the Walrus" were not done well in my opinion... Frankly, Bono should stay away from Beatles songs. :) |
I was generally disappointed by it as well. :s
It had a skeleton of a plot, which didn't coincide all too well with the songs; although I loved how they created a character named Prudence, who turned out to be a lesbian; and I loved the whole thing where she later went on and joined the circus, because in those days homosexuality was generally a no-no; a freakish thing. I did enjoy the music, though. <3 |
Across the Universe
Has anyone here seen the movie Across the Universe?
I saw it a long time ago back when it was first in the theatres. It was amazing in my opinion. I really want to go buy the DVD now that it's finally out. The soundtrack to the movie is awesome! I can't stop listening to it. They really did some amazing things with all of those Beatles songs <3 My favorite thing to do when I watched it was to try and catch all of the Beatles references! |
:3
It started off really good, But the circus scene and the van scene was so random. The effects were un necessary. |
Seen it, own it, and want to marry Jim Sturgess. End of discussion on my behalf. XD;
And quite honestly, I thought the I Am the Walrus and Mr. Kite songs / scenes were some of the most awesome in the movie. They had a lot of room to interpret things and shape them in their own way -- totally creative and artistic if you ask me. There was not a bad thing about the movie at all. |
@Eserel- Yeah those scenes were a bit unexpected, but I liked them. :]
@Windy- omfg I want like all the guys! They were all pretty fine if you ask me <3 Yeah, they were pretty neat scenes. My favorite scene was when they were "swimming", I think that the way they used nudity was very beautiful. |
I loved this movie, I thought it captured the spirit of the time period and of the music. :D Even though it was sort of lacking a really solid plot. Everyone I had talked to that had been that age in that era thought it aligned well with their own lives.

TOO MUCH CONTROLLLLL xD
I was watching the movie with my dad.
Then the scenes of them naked in the water made him start ranting and saying that it was x-rated and I shouldn't be watching this stuff. Then he cursed out hippies and I set him straight. I'm gonna try to find it on the internet and finish watching it. My dad is too protective and controlling. :( |
