IT-by stephen King

IT

Did anyone else watch this movie when they were really young and scared the pants off of you. It's one of those movies I like watching over and over again. I don't quite know why it's appealing. Well it isn't really the subject matter is disgusting. But the book is even scarier. I just wish that the movie ending didn't end so badly the rest of the movie was a master piece and the ending was seriously rubbish. If they remade IT they should keep all the elements of the younger flashbacks but change everything else after that. Come to think of it thats probably why I enjoy the movie because the children acted exactly how I used to act when I was younger, making dams and dens telling spooky stories about ghosts or boogey men. Anyone else love this movie or is it just me. Or are their any other stephen king made to movie adaptions you really like.

I dislike Dreamcatcher I can't watch it past the part were the guy is sitting on the toilet trying to pick up a toothpick off of the floor thats covered in blood and poo.. it's just gross and predictable what was going to happen next too predictable...

orgasm 10-27-2007 11:55 PM

IT wasn't that bad of a movie. the first time i watched it, yeah i was pretty freaked. ;3 like dude who wouldn't be scared of a clown popping out of no where laughing his head off? the truth is, i HATE clowns. man.. they scare the sht outta me! o.o;; heh. the same thing applies for dolls. Dx shivers* anyhoo, once i watched it a second time, i guess i didn't feel as scared. ohyeah.. the ending was pretty cliche. i mean it wasn't as 'freaky' as i thought it would end. maybe if it was gory.. like 'high tension' gory.. i would've really enjoyed it. overall it was an okay movie. however, it isn't a film that i would consider watching over and over. O;

MayuSatomiJuRei 10-27-2007 11:57 PM

Cool the thing is I just didn't like what the clown ended up being at the end, I think that ruined the movie... other than that like I said really enjoyed IT.

Barith_ 10-28-2007 03:13 AM

The movie was sorta lame. Im watching it right now and it pretty stupid the storys pretty cool but everything isint perfect...

Takuto 10-28-2007 02:43 PM

That is by far the scarries movie with a Clown in there. (for children that is!)
To teens and adults, the movie is very corny/lame. I thought it was a pretty bad concept. I have yet to read the book but I got bored half way through the second IT movie.

MaskedDream 10-28-2007 05:19 PM

I hate this movie to death the only reason I am scared of it is because I am scared of clowns.

MasterChiefrei 10-28-2007 09:55 PM

OMG! I love the movie IT and of course when I was a kid it scared the crap out of me. XD But I love it and I've always loved Tim Curry being Pennywise because he has the right kind of voice for the part and knows how to be insane and make it convincing. XD I do wish the part with their older counterparts was a little better but I still love the whole movie. >w< Can't mess with a classic. I did watch Pet Cemetary with a friend once but I didn't like it and for some reason creepy possessed children aren't my hot button for scary. Anyways long live IT!
*I used to build forts in the woods. >w<*

MayuSatomiJuRei 10-28-2007 10:31 PM

MasterChiefrei I'm so glad you think that and I'm not just crazy. It's just the topic that's a bit off is all I don't really want to talk about it on a forum like this because it may be taken the wrong way. And yes to someone else who said clowns are very scary scary things. I don't know why clowns are scary. mabey it's because they are hiding who they really are and you'll never find out whats under all that white paint and maniacal smile... bwhahahah.

The clown doll in poltergeist is bad enough.. *shudders*

MasterChiefrei 10-29-2007 01:28 AM

You ain't that crazy. <33 And this isn't such a bad topic because there are Stephen King fans out there. >w<

Bunai 08-15-2009 09:20 AM

Creepy movie, and it made me sad, more than scared :)
Since it was about children and death.

I never read the book, but I am interested in it. It looks sooo thick though :XD
I want to read more about the Turtle and the Spider, I just found that excerpt from the book so neat.

This is a movie that I think - deserves a remake... or rather an adaptation based more on the book.

Spasmodic 04-19-2010 04:26 PM

I absolutely love Stephan King's IT. It is one of the greatest films I've ever seen. I first saw it when I was about eight and staying at my cousins house, him being twelve by that point decided scaring little girls was funny. But the plan backfired because I lapped it up.

Pennywise the clown is an amazing character, also the fact that he was played by one of my favourite actors (Mr Tim Curry no less) just made the whole thing more enjoyable.

I thought that the film was a true stroke of genius from King, though most of his adaptions are really good, I have seen a few of his horrors and loved them, saldy I am not so fond of his books, he just spends so long describing things rather than getting into the action I get bored. I have only tried to read cell though, perhaps if I actually tried reading IT I might enjoy it more. I hear that the book ending and the film ending are completely different?

I don't really think that there should be a remake of IT. I mean why fix what ain't broken? IT is amazing just the way it is, there is no need to try and remaster it.

And don't worry, just remember: Everybody Floats

Parasite Steve 04-19-2010 06:06 PM

Didn't see the movie til recently though I've wanted to for a while. The book is currently on my dresser and I've yet to read it...
IT was probably the only movie adaption of any of Stephen Kings works that I liked. I don't know how they can ruin so many good stories simply by turning them into movies...

@Spas: I believe you mean

Cell was my first King book and I thought it was amazing. I had no trouble getting into it. Maybe I'm just weird. And from my knowledge there are many differences between IT movie and book, but not sure because I never read the book yet. I think it spends more time on the children part of the story.

@Bunkai: I'd kind of like to see a remake, it was a good film, don't think it really needs one though because it's a classic. However if what I've heard about the book and movie having such differences I would totally love to see one based moreso on the book. And a Turtle all the way down reference never hurt no one.

Kole_Locke 04-19-2010 06:31 PM

That was a really scary book, but I love how it ended. The movie really was a good transfer to the silver screen. I have seen this movies several times and let me tell you the more I watch it the more I feel like I could float because you kmnow down here they all float LOL ROFL .... I think that is so hillarious!! Go stephen King!

Spasmodic 04-19-2010 07:50 PM

Rose Red was really good too, it was the Langaleers that I didn't like.

Yeah, that is the one that I mean

I couldn't get into Cell at all, my dad lent it to me and by the pages of the pixie haircuts I lost interest, I read a little more and just gave up. I may try and procure a copy of IT though.

Yeah, I thought that line was brillinat too....so good I got it wrong  but yeah, Tim Curry portrayed Pennywise excellently in my book :D

Parasite Steve 04-19-2010 07:59 PM

Oooh The Langoliers. I loved that one. The movie didn't quite do it justice in my opinion but it was still a half decent read. Also never realized that Pennywise was Tim Curry until I saw it in this thread. Nice.
My Dad lent me his copy of Cell (Which I still have) after I saw The Mist (forgot about that one til just now, that was another good movie conversion), and I quite loved it. The Stand is probably my favorite King book, if not my favorite book.

Spasmodic 04-19-2010 09:37 PM

Yeah, I saw that on TV, it was split into three parts, basically it is three hours of my life I will never get back. I don't think that the conversion really did Stephan King justice either.

Oh The Mist, I think I may have read a bit of that actually, that was really good.

Yeah, I never realised it was Tim Curry either until I saw a peice of art on DA that had him as Frank.N.Furter and Pennywise, but then afterwards I didn't see how I never saw it before.

I really need to watch IT again sometime soon, it is one of my top films but I haven't watched it in ages.

Vulgar 04-19-2010 10:09 PM

I love Stephen King, I really do.
But the first half of IT really scared the shit outta me o__o. I srsly still have nightmares about it.
The second half, which I saw a week later was downright dissapointing though. A freaking huge spider? I'll take those on anyday ;D.

PWEEP 04-19-2010 10:43 PM

I agree, the book is entirely different than the movie. I adore the movie absolutely, but I hate clowns XD I walked in on my parents watching it when I was little, right when the clown turned into the spider thing. I freaked out so bad XD I wish they would re-do the movie, though hopefully they could find as good a cast as the original.

Aren't there already plans for a remake? I doubt it'll be as good as the orginal, because even though that movie scarred me for life, it was pretty good *shrug*.

Spasmodic 04-20-2010 04:33 PM

There's plans for a remake? I never knew that, I personally hate re-makes though, sometimes they work and I do take it back, but I feel if the original film was good why re-make it? That is what I feel about IT, I don't think it requires a re-make.

Ditto Nightmare On Elm Street, but that's a different matter entirely.

Those giant spidres in IT really freaked the hell out of me, I hate spiders anyway so those made me brick it

I googled it after I posted, and I found some websites speculating about it, not sure about the date and actors though.
I can understand the need for a remake, because y'know, it brings in a shitload of money and there are lots more special effect available. But I never really saw a remake that did justice to the original ;_;.

Spasmodic 04-20-2010 05:58 PM

Yeah if they did do a re-make of IT I would watch it obviously (that's just the way I am) but in my mind there is only one man that can play Pennywise and that is Tim Curry. So all in all I would probably not be impressed with the choice for Pennywise unless it was someone who was simmilar in personality and stage presence to Tim Curry.

Also if they put someone like Nicholas Cage in the film that would ruin it for me.

I think I may have a littke browse on google just now.

I do agree with the special effect front though, that would be quite good to see.

Yeah, most original movies are better than re-makes.

PWEEP 04-20-2010 11:10 PM

I think the guy from Nitemare on Elm Street (the originals) could go a good IT clown. He's good at being scary and weird.

Parasite Steve 04-20-2010 11:19 PM

Robert Englund is a horror god (fanboyism) (Robert Englund played Freddy from A nightmare on elmstreet just so ya'know). Honestly I don't see Englund as a good Pennywise. Not sure who'd be a good Pennywise... Hm...
A Nightmare on Elm Street, re-imagining sounds like a Good idea. However Englund has played EVERY Freddy, his not coming back makes me sad...

Generally films don't need remakes. Re-imaginings are completely different. They change stuff, such as the new Friday the 13th. It had similarities to the first three films, and the trailer for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street shows scenes similar to the first three movies too. At least kill wise. Heard the name Nancy in trailers so I assume it's following the first movies story.
Classic/bad effects are awesome though, it makes a film "Classic" which is a great quality.
Here's hoping the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street is epic. If so then I'll have hope for a new IT.

New IT would NEED Seth Green.

Vulgar 04-21-2010 10:50 AM

Ofcourse I'll watch it, I wouldn't be able to restrain myself ;_; even though I'll probably get nightmares [because of the scaryness, or because the remake is just so horrid, haha].

Now I want to know who they are casting for the remake ;D.
