Captain Howdy 12-04-2008 11:59 PM

Back when I was in high school we were given the choice of watching either "The Breakfast Club" or "Dumb and Dumber". I voted for "The Breakfast Club" as did all of my friends. Unfortunately, a large percentage of the rest of class voted for the latter.

Now I know with a title like "Dumb and Dumber" you're gonna ask, "You weren't expecting Shakespeare now, were you Howdy?" True to it's name it was dumb, but I didn't think it was going to be so mind numbingly stupid and irritating.

I ended up asking if I could sit outside and read.

AMERICAN TEAM! (The one from the creators of South Park) Thats the stupidest movie ever! I almost left but, I didnt want to be rude with the guy that pay for the movie :| Really those guy that did the movie should only stay with South Park!

I can't stand Napolean Dynamite. I don't hate it, I just can't watch it. I've tried so many times to watch it all the way through but I always get so bored. I tried to watch it once at a sleepover and after he shot the cow I just wandered off and my friend was asleep so I woke her up by poking her forehead so she could turn the TV off. She has a squishy forehead. :)

I hate the Ben 10 movie (Ben 10 is a kids show that my brother watches, or used to watch so often that everyone got exposed to at least 3 seasons. It involves aliens, hence his obsession(he has most of the toys...)). The movie is crap. Terribly made and they didn't even get all the personalities right.

A recent one (i was bored...REALLY bored) would be Fishtales, which only had the mermaid going for it. Then she fell in love. Then I fell asleep.

And of course, Epic Movie was epically stupid.

Smellerbee 12-14-2008 10:28 AM

Hmmm... I don't know. I never really go to see a movie if I think it will be terrib - SPY KIDS 2 OMIGAWD IT REEKED OF FAILURE!

enmas 12-15-2008 09:56 PM

Sharkboy and Lavagirl!

I saw it with my little brothers, and, usually I don't mind taking them to little kid's movies, but that was just terrible. Absolutely useless. Really, that was 90 minutes of my life, and 8 dollars that I'd like back, thank you. :|

Shadowedfire_Wolf 12-20-2008 12:31 AM

Napoleon Dynamite. Enough said.

Garnet Phoenix 12-20-2008 04:01 AM

At first I couldn't remember what movies I thought were dumb. But after reading all of the messages, I remembered what movies I thought were lame:

Napoleon Dynamite
Epic Movie
Ghost Rider
Some movies Will Ferrel worked in. (I admit that he was pretty good in two movies: The Producers and Bewitched. The rest of the movies he's made I have not seen and don't think I would want to...)
Superbad
Scary Movies 1,3,4. The second was actually funny to me.
Date Movie
Borat
High School Musical
Big Mama's House 2
Norbit
And last but certainly not the least: Movies based off of books. Like for instance, Blood and Chocolate... Those who have read the book and have seen the movie should know why this is the worst.

Takuto 12-20-2008 04:37 AM

The Dark Knight.
I saw it twice and even got it for christmas on DVD.
I still don't understand the craze honestly.

Sho-Shonojo 12-20-2008 07:00 AM

Darjeeling Unlimited, was the stupidest movie I have ever seen. It was so bland, I felt like turning it off several times, but I just kept hoping that something would happen to make it better. Half the movie takes place on a train, with nothing happening, and the rest doesn't even make sense.

And then my design teacher had to go and say she thought it was so funny, when it really isn't. It's just a bland story about three grown men, trying to find their mother in india, or something, because she didn't come to their father's funeral. And then it ends the same way it starts.>.>

MasterChiefrei 12-23-2008 10:21 PM

Ok, I watched something that beat the last movie I thought was really stupid. The Mummy 3...holy crap that was bad. ><; Whatever critic said it was their favorite out of the three had a huge hard on for Asian culture because that's the only way they could've enjoyed it. It was terrible, the lines were bad, the actors that played Fraser's son and wife didn't fit at all and felt awkward, and it was just plain boring. If not for Jet Li I would've turned off the movie 1/3rd the way through.

Michy Lea 12-24-2008 03:38 AM

Ali G Indahouse. It's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. But, it's one of those movies that's dumb but slightly funny. By the time you get to where you're like, "Why am I watching this?", you're so far into it that you just have to keep watching to see how it ends.

Lovers Network 12-24-2008 09:21 AM

i gotta say the dumbest one to me was QUARANTINE @[email protected]
it wasn;t that scary and the ending was crap

Bii 12-24-2008 07:18 PM

10,000 BC
Dreadful Penny
The Hamiltons
Finding Forester
&more. >.>`

Walkyrje 12-24-2008 07:23 PM

Hands down, the worst movie I have ever seen was Millennium, with Kris Kristofferson and Cheryl Ladd. It was as if they only had the budget for half a movie, so they shot that half a movie from two different camera angles, and showed it to us twice! Ugh! It was stupid and gimiky!

A close second, however, was Pulp Fiction. My ex-girlfriend found out I hadn't seen it, so she made me watch it. I hated almost every minute of it! I wanted my three hours back!

blitzy 12-24-2008 11:37 PM

I've seen some pretty dumb movies.

Blades of Glory and Superhero movie fall into the dumb but good category for me.

Also Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were pretty stupid. It was the period of time where they had just given up on making a good Batman movie.

spicedroses 12-25-2008 01:46 AM

The dumbest movie I ever saw was The cat in the hat, It was one of the first times I ever felt like walking out of the theater. what a waste of money.

Thunder 12-25-2008 03:18 AM

I'm a sucker for horror movies, so let's just say I've seen a lot of bad movies. I'll save you from suffering through the super long list and just mention some of the crappy movies I've seen recently.

First on the list is Ichi the Killer. I've heard a lot of talk about it when people bring up the more gruesome movies. Finally, I got around to watching it myself. From what I've seen, people think very highly of it. I don't. xD

Second is the Happening. I'm not even going to say any more about it.

Almost any movie the SciFi channel comes out with is horribly stupid too. xD

As for a movie that is so stupid it's funny, I like Kung Fu Hustle. There was a gang. With axes. And they danced. This amused me much more than it should have.

Elmira Swift 12-25-2008 04:17 AM

There are a couple of really horrible - so bad you HAVE to watch it all the way through while thinking that it WILL improve! - vampire movies. The biggest standout for me is [I]The Last Vampire in Burbank[I]. If you ever find it, watch it only if you have nothing better to do with your life (like sprout plaque on your teeth) for an hour. At the end of the movie (spoiler) the vampires are reduced to skeletons, while running down a street clothed and wearing wigs. You can clearly see the strings...

`Trixxy 12-28-2008 05:34 AM

Uh, I'll have to say "Mean Girls." I didn't like it at all. Just a bunch of highschool girls trying to prove themselves. Or something.

Jenova4 12-28-2008 03:10 PM

(Prepares for the flames) I'm going to have to go with Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd.
Having been both a fan of the stage musical and Tim Burton, after watching this film, my faith in both Tim Burton and Sondheim was shaken. My outlined arguments are here (I had posted them in my blogs elsewhere, but I will re-post here for the sake of argument):

I found Sweeney Todd extremely disappointing. Having been a huge fan of the original musical (and I've seen the adapted-for-TV-screens mainstage Sweeney Todd with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn) and a huge fan of Tim Burton, I was excited when I heard he was actually working with Sondheim to create the film.
However, a first picture leaked, the one with Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd. My excitement waned a little, because Johnny Depp is just, how can I put it, too sexually appealing to play Sweeney convincingly. Then I heard the preview, my ears wimpered. His voice does not have the proper range that Len Cariou and Michael Cerveris had to sing the songs with the music. Many singers do not have the range for Sweeney, and Johnny Depp is no exception. His acting, to me, seemed like he was distracted by something other than revenge, but that could also have to do with the fact that I was so disappointed with the singing that I ignored his performance.
Helena Bonham Carter (as Johnny Depp often does) appears in this Burton Film. I would rather this triumvirate be broken in his next movies, so that Tim Burton can branch out again and cast actors that really fit the roles, not ones that can wear a costume and pretend until the audience screams it's fake. Her voice falls terribly flat, even though she proved she could carry something of a tune in Corpse Bride. Perhaps it is because Danny Elfman wrote the songs around her voice, instead of the other way around?
There was no Ballad of Sweeney Todd, and that made me even more disappointed; as Tim Burton's filmmaking skills could've really helped to tell the story better by creating Sweeney's ghostly victims singing the Ballad. Instead, he opted for a CGI runthrough of a drop of blood.
Also missing was the entire Johanna and Antony subplot. When I left the theatre, I didn't feel I got to know Johanna or Antony at all. Also, Antony didn't really appear to be much of a sailor...
And the Blood, oh dear lord the blood. It was dreadful. It made the movie about as frightening as the lowest budget horror film. Blood is more frightening and disturbs more when it is applied sparingly, as in Pan's Labyrinth (which is still quite bloody, but tons more disturbing)

On to the few things I did enjoy about the movie:
-The casting for Johanna, Toby, Pirelli, Judge Turpin
Here, these were people who could actually sing their parts. Sacha Baron Cohen as Pirelli was extremely entertaining, as he reminds me of the actor who originally played Pirelli. Even his cape fwoosh is the same.
-The "A little Priest" sequence
This scene was cute, you had Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett rushing around the shop and pointing to all the other people in the streets. This was tastefully done.
-The "By the Sea" sequence
Here, Tim Burton took this scene and made it his own. This was absolutely wonderful. If the entire movie had this little bit of imagination redistributed through it, I would've enjoyed it.
-Pirelli's Murder
This too, was complete genius on the part of the Kettle. On the part of the blood spurting, I hesitate a little on this sequence.
-The Set and Scenery
Gorgeous. The general look is Tim Burton and Sweeney Todd. Although I might've done something else with Sweeney's Hair (he's supposed to be late forties early fifties, Johnny Depp made him look like he was still in his thirties.)

Personally, I would've rather had Anthony Hopkins or even Michael J. Fox (If he didn't have Parkinson's) to play Sweeney. I lean more towards Anthony Hopkins because a) having been Zorro once, understands how to play revenge from one angle and b) having been Hannibal Lecter, he can be creepifying, frightening, longing for revenge, and cannibalistic.
Plus he can kinda sing.
I almost would've rather had a voice actor dub for Sweeney Todd, just because musically, it is extremely difficult to sing.
As for Mrs. Lovett, I wish Angela Lansbury could do it again, but I think she's just on the stage now. Perhaps Patii LuPone could've reprised her role?

Overall, as a straight movie from someone who has never seen the magic of Sweeney Todd,
It is an okay movie, it is not great and fantastic. You might even like it, if you're slightly tone deaf.
From what many would call an obsessive fan of the original musical, It feels like you've been betrayed.

*Update!*
I just watched Sweeney Todd again (the Stage musical, not the Tim Burton film) and realized just how much of the intricate story arcs were cut in the making of the film. I highly recommend finding the original Television Broadcast of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1982) with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury. If you end up finding Sweeney Todd in Concert with George Hearn and Patti LuPone, it's okay. It is just the straight music with little exposition. However, since Sweeney Todd is an Operetta, you don't miss much.

Stallion Duck 12-28-2008 06:16 PM

Oh gosh. Joe Dirt hands down, and my hate for David Spade probably doesn't help that movie either.

22Tsuji22 12-30-2008 03:16 AM

Raising Arizona...Apocalypse Now...Tombstone...the irony is that I watched all these in my Films in Literature class. Where you are supposed to watch classics.

Movies I haven't seen because I fear I would end up as dumb as rock by the end are any Will Ferrel movie(minus ELF and Bewitched), Jack Black(minus School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda, panda's are my weakness), and any movies like Napoleon Dynamite.

The Neverending Twilight 12-31-2008 02:22 PM

Okay... the dumbest movie I have EVER seen has got to be... Freddy Got Fingered. o.o lol, You don't KNOW stupid until you see this movie. Infact... I don't even know what the plot was, or what was happening half the time. It was funny, but the stupid kind of funny. It made absulutely no sense. Heck, it made even less sense than Napoleon Dynomite. As for worst movie I have ever seen... Super Bad. Blegh.

MoonGrave 01-01-2009 08:24 AM

The silliest (but not necessarily dumbest--well, okay, dumbest too) movie I have ever seen was Darkman. If you know anything about how bullets, guns, and things they hit work, you'll find the constant explosions during the action scenes ridiculous. For example, a bullet will hit a concrete walkway and boom--the walkway will explode. What? I was confused and highly amused (hey, that rhymed!) at the same time. Also, if you know anything about the Happycat internet meme (I can has cheezburger?) you'll find the presence of the stray (but rather well-fed looking) Russian Blue as hilarious as I did. That cat wasn't happy, though, so I referred to it as Madcat in a mocking voice. The characters' reactions can also be incredibly cheesy. The shriek of, "TAKE THE BEAR!" followed by the main character storming off with the bear still in hand makes me giggle still.

While it's not a great action movie, it is good for a laugh. That's the only reason I'd suggest watching it.
