Ace of Cakes

I would love to have my wedding or birthday cake made by them but I know they've got to be really expensive. besides I don't think they'd drive from Baltimore Maryland to IL. sorry not going to happen.

Does anyone else want they're cakes? and which one's are you're faves?

personally I love almost all of them, except for the normal looking ones. like sherry's wedding cake. It was a lot of detail but I still didn't like it. I loved Noah's ark and the rat cake. those were cute.

I loved the Noah's Ark cake, and I also thought the Hogwarts castle cake was awesome.

If what I heard is right, their cheapest (and very plain) cakes start at about $180. As of a while ago, I also read that the most expensive was about $2,000 (and I think it was the King Kong cake, but I'm not 100% sure).

I decorate cakes (and cupcakes <3), I just wish I had some sort of sculpting ability - my shaped cakes are limited to the shaped cake pans that I can find. Their talents on Ace of Cakes amaze me.

I totally want one of their cakes. I really liked the Beaver cake. >3<;; Ahh it's hard to pick though. x3

I remember this one episode [Mind you, I've only seen the show like two or three times] that had this absolutely orgasmic/unbelievable chocolate fondant cake. All I remember was that the cake creator had previously won, and that her cake had won in this episode. It was amazing, and she even made truffles... *drools*
It looked absolutely flawless, and was soooo smooth looking. I wish I could've ran my hand along it. @[email protected]

2,000 dollars isn't bad and I know he can make it. I want a fountain in my cake. it would be so cool. and my bf wants a star trek cake. which they've probably done before. and I didn't see the hogwarts episode. I hope they play that one again. they've only been playing the hairspray one lately.

Surprisingly, I watch the show more for the shenanigans than for the cakes.

While it would be neat to get a cake from there, it's not something I'd really strive to obtain.

I've always wondered how their cakes tasted.

@Usukie - I'm sure some of their cakes have been worth more, but I think some of the corporate/promotional cakes either are made free or at a discount when publicity that the shop gets is factored in - Either that, or they have made much more expensive cakes since then, I'm not sure!

If I had the money for one of their cakes and lived in the area, I would definitely want to get one at least once. I know it is relatively simple to have a fountain between cake tiers, but yeah, it would be really awesome to somehow have one built in!

The Hogwarts castle was an amazing cake to see, they put a ton of detail into it (not that they don't normally, of course), and it followed the cake all the way through the premiere party that it was made for. It was a really interesting episode! I hope I see it again sometime.

@Degnne - I'm not sure about the actual cake part, but if you've ever tasted fondant, I think that stuff is nasty. It tastes like eating sugary flour to me. It looks really good, though!

Usukie Ichihara 02-17-2008 04:17 AM

yeah my mom makes cakes, she's not a pro at it but needless to say we don't have to buy them anymore.

and fondant tastes bad. you can only eat maybe one bite of it before you get sick of it. it's pure sugar with chemicals in it to make it the way it is.

Heartagram 02-17-2008 04:23 AM

That is cool - I'm the same way with cakes. Not pro, but good enough to be sort of a go-to person for family and friends (and their families and friends). Most people have been wanting cupcakes lately, though, and I love making those! ^_^

I'd rather a cake looks a little less "clean" and be made with some good buttercream than covered in fondant, but I understand why it is used with cakes where the visual appeal is the top priority. But that taste... *shudder*

Usukie Ichihara 02-17-2008 04:27 AM

I prefer my moms homemade sugar stuff. it's nice and light. I have no idea how she makes it but it's the best kind of iceing I've ever had in my life. I wish I knew how to make them and at least you can. I can barely cook cookies.

Did anyone see the recent episode where they recreated the entire Hogwarts castle for the fifth Harry Potter movie opening in Hollywood? The castle itself was built out of Styrofoam, each little tower and turet. But then it was covered completely in fondant to look like a cake and spray painted to give it that realistic aged stone look.

They make the actual edible cake out of the grounds, a rocky green ground with cupcake like trees people could pick up and eat and a blue candy glass lake. I really like how he untextured the lake, making it not just flat. But I suspect he didn't exactly do that on purpose.

At the premiere though, everyone kept saying how beautiful the cake was and no one would eat it! I have to say, even if you put hours or days into a cake to make it gorgeous, a cake is still a delicious cake and should be devoured! XD But that is just my opinion because I love cake! <3 <3 <3

the newest one I saw was he made his mom a something or other egg and had his little brother help with it.

oh and the episode after that was the desater one. were they thought the cake shop was haunted.

Hehe, I watched that show a couple times. I don't like watching it though because it makes me hungry for cake. :] I saw the Christmas cakes one and the Harry Potter castle cake. That was amazing. :0

Duff's driven cross country with cake parts. If you paid him enough, he'd could drive out to where you were if the event were big enough. :o
Actually, no. They will only deliver like that if it must come in pieces as they say on the site.

His prices actually aren't way too bad. It's the insane backorder of stuff which would get you in my opinion. No ordering until March 30th and they're booked for quite a few weeks in '09 already.

I totally fiend this show. I try to watch it every time I'm around and it's on.

I really love baking and I love seeing how they take the cake-making and turn it into these amazing artistic pieces. The problem is everytime I watch I get the urge to bake.. and with 2 people living in a small apartment, I can't do it because we'd never eat it all!!

Keska 02-19-2008 11:31 PM

I really enjoy this show. I try to watch every time it's on, if I can. It does make me hungry though. But I get like that with most food shows.

It amazes me how they can make all these awesome artistic cakes. They put so much detail into them. Before watching this show I didn't really realize half of this stuff was possible to do with cakes. I've seen lovely cakes before but it was never at this level.

The Hogwarts castle cake was pretty awesome. I'm not sure that I have a favorite cake that they've made. It's hard to choose.

I'm also not surprised that they are back ordered for so long. I wonder if they were like that before the show? I'm assuming that they got a lot more customers due to the show. Hence the insane back order period.
