Anyone remember Toonami *during its 2000 era*?

Im talking about Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam, Salor Moon, Tenchi Muyo....the classics...
BEFORE Toonami sold out, got rid of all its awesome comercials and shows, and ended up playing effing Naruto to death =__=;;;

Saisei 06-17-2008 12:33 AM

I remember back when it was two episodes of DBZ per day.

I also remember half of my floor congregating in my dorm room every day to watch it. Good times.

Cherry Who? 06-17-2008 01:02 AM

Yep, I remember that.
My friends and I would watch it. We were around 8-9 at that time.
They'd watch DBZ (I'd go off and do something by myself because I hated that show) then we'd all watch Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo.
Tenchi Muyo made no sense, though. o_O Or at least... it didn't to a nine year old.
Oh, and there was Reboot. Which also made no sense. XD

Thinking back, we watched kind of brainlessly.... Watching shows we didn't get and all....

Takuto 06-17-2008 05:14 AM

I remember that Toonami robot guy who kept on getting his ship upgraded like every year. Man, those were the good old days. (Cardcaptor Sakura was also in the line up. xD.)

Rhies 06-17-2008 05:57 AM

Omh! YES! XD I used to watch it every day after school...I had to find out what was going to happen next on DBZ...those were the interesting days of the blooming anime girl that I would soon becoem in this time. XD I am so weird.

Ariadne the Innocent 06-17-2008 06:04 AM

lol, yes! Every day I'd make sure I was home at 5:00 to watch DBZ. ^^ I remember the invasion also. Where Tom (At least I think it was Tom) died and Tom II came. Also the Midnight run. =3

Captain Howdy 06-17-2008 08:09 AM

I never watched Toonami, but I liked it's direction. Gundam, in any form, bores me to tears. I didn't like the censorship on Sailor Moon and Tenchi, but I understand it. The Tenchi Muyo dub I think is primo but the Sailor Moon english adaption makes me cringe. But as said, despite all that negativity, I liked it's direction of moving anime into the mainsteam.

fiarra 06-17-2008 04:13 PM

I remember it but never got a chance to watch it because we didn't (and still don't) have cable in my house. I rallyed for it, based on the fact that I really wanted Toonami, but alas.

So... T_T Buu on all you who got to see it.

;)

Amiiu 06-18-2008 07:06 PM

I remember the robot guy in the ship pressing buttons on his chair...
I used to watch Toonami all the time with my sister then, but then they kept on showing horrible shows and then my sister and I would talk about our hate towards the new shows that Toonami began to show, and then we just kind of stopped watching TV.

Whistler A. 06-19-2008 03:29 AM

lol yea, the robot was Tom, and his ship's computer was named Sara, if im not mistaken, the ship itself was named The Absolution~

=O i loved Toonami, i was reliving the highlights on youtube, listening to all the awesome comercials X3 lol

xXSungieXx 06-19-2008 04:11 AM

Ah, those were the good days. I used to watch Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe, and DBZ religiously. I started watching Mobile Suit Gundam, but I lost interest and never finished, even though I had most of the episodes recorded. I didn't start watching it until after Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon were taken off I guess, because I don't remember them being on. Granted we didn't get Cartoon Network until I was like 14 (so that was in 1999). I remember them showing Sailor Moon movies, but not the series and I know they played Gundam Wing episodes during a New Year's Eve marathon, but that's all that I remember. Not that I'm sad to have missed the horror that is the Sailor Moon dub, but I would have watched Gundam Wing since it's like my all time favorite Gundam series.

*sigh* I miss the old Toonami. Not that I don't like Naruto, I just have an aversion to the dub...but they hardly show anime anymore, which sucks. Ah well. At least we still get some on Adult Swim.

Senpai 06-21-2008 01:13 AM

Oh yes. Those where the shows. Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Reboot, MGS and so on. They were the best shows around. And what was great about them, no one had heard of them! If you did, you and a small group talked about them all the time.

Nowadays... I really don't watch what comes on, unless it is Samurai Jack and I think Blue Dragon... but that comes on in the morning. Toonami shows off the mainstream, which, in my personal opinion, is a bad move. I'm a little tired of hearing about Naruto ever few seconds when I'm at the movie/book store. But, eh... I'll have that.

I really wish they brought back the good ol' shows that made Toonami something back in the day.

Kannon_San 06-21-2008 06:43 PM

Ah. iloved the shows they played back then, they were all the best <3.

do any of you remember cyborg 009? :D. i think that one was one of the best, oh and s-cry-ed aslo ^ ^

7luvlysins 06-22-2008 10:38 AM

Mmm those were the good old days, Toonami from 4 -6 and then to 7pm.

But then there were still Cartoons on WB, Foxfamily and Nick had not sold it soul yet.

Cyborg was amazing but s-cry-ed was on Adult Swim. Really good anime to.

I really had wished they had finished Blue Gender. WHY didn't they show the last episode. *sigh*

Its sad how they changed Tom. I remember when he was small and there was that epic battle that got small Tom killed and he was bought back as big Tom.

The stuff on Toonami now is meh. The dubbing is about the same since the early dubbing of our favorite shows were not so good, but making it only Sat is really sad.

The Meguzi thing *shivers*

...Oh totally off topic, but does anyone remember Sitck Stickly from Nick?

Violet_Beauregarde91 06-24-2008 03:10 PM

YES, I do! My maternal grandfather will not let me forget it. He has videos of Tenchi Muyo. I've been familiar with since 2001. You could safely and easily call him an anime aficionado!

ToriKat 06-25-2008 06:11 AM

Oh goodness. xD I definitely remember Tom and the lineup. As much as I don't like dubs, I watched them anyways. Sailormoon, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing...those were the good old days. x3

...I avoided Dragonball Z like the plague. xD

I have no idea what Cartoon Network is like anymore since I haven't had cable at home for years. ^^;

Saisei 06-25-2008 06:17 AM

It seems like the last time I tuned into Toonami it was Naruto, then Naruto, then Naruto and then finished up with an episode of Naruto. :)

[batman!] 06-27-2008 08:37 PM

-sobs-
everything gets poopy with age.
milk, salami, tv shows and programs.

r.i.p
Toonami 2000

your program will never be the same..

and i think Adult Swim met its same fate

Emira 07-29-2008 08:19 AM

*raises hand* Oh! I do!

Ah, the DragonBall Z days. And for some reason, I absolutely loved Sailor Moon.
And Tenchi Muyo... I was like 10 at the time, and I remember thinking it was the most perverted show ever. And yet I continued to watch it. I still think about it sometimes...
Didn't Tenchi have that weird... cat/rabbit... rodent type thing? If anyone knows what I'm talking about...

I don't remember the commercials...

FrostsHellion 08-04-2008 05:31 AM

I miss the thundercats...

Bishielurfer 08-04-2008 06:57 AM

~sigh~ My friend and I discuss those days all the time...I miss those days so much. I would hurry home from school to watch Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball...I still love Sailor Moon, I don't care what anyone says XD

And the commercials were awesome too. Does anyone remember the Daft Punk music videos they used to show?
Mmmm, Daft Punk...

@Emira: Yeah, it was called a Cabbit. Ryo-Ohki was its name (I think that's how it's spelled).

@batman: Yeah, AS did die as well. It really started going downhill when they started trying to make their own shows. But I remember when it first started, and they played Yu Yu Hakusho, Cyborg 009, Cowboy Bebop...Those were the days.

blitzy 08-04-2008 07:02 AM

I remember it. I use to go on the website all the time.

Sadly we didn't have the channel in Canada (at least not where I was) so I couldn't actually watch it. I did, however, watch most of those shows on the Canadian channels that they were on.

Emrysa 08-04-2008 08:41 AM

I remember when Sailor Moon was on a different channel in the morning before school.
Then when they started showing it on Cartoon Network, I started watching all of the other shows.
I went to my first convention in 2000 and everyone was dressed as Duo.

Akstar 08-04-2008 11:36 PM

Those were nicer days, actual shows worth the time you spent sitting in front of the tv doing work(if one as at school at the time) or drawing, now a days I don't even go near cartoon network anymore, it has degraded too much to be enjoyable.

Julianna 08-04-2008 11:59 PM

awh yeah! >.< i remember that..
i didn't watch it too much though, but i do remember sailor moon~

akstar i remember doing that! xD
