General Rules

Please keep in mind that this is Menewsha. Our rules differ from other avatar sites. What is acceptable on one site may not be acceptable here.

All staff are here to help the community as a whole. All decisions made are unanimous, if you do not agree with something a member of staff has done, feel free to PM them and talk to them about it (unless it is harassment or a complaint about a staff member). But please do not attempt to go to another member of staff hoping for a better answer.

Please do NOT contact multiple staff members about the same issue, this can cause numerous problems and is wholly unnecessary.

Please do not ignore the chain of command when you have a problem. The staff are here to help you, contact a moderator about your problem first and THEY will pass it on to a higher level staff member if it's something that they cannot deal with themselves.

We also understand that you have personal feelings about members of staff. Please try to limit your feelings to PM, as negativity is not conducive to a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

Please do NOT ask to become staff.

We choose people based on their attitude and aptitude, the way they present themselves around the site and numerous other criteria. We do not take applications.

Begging

Begging is not allowed and will not be tolerated. This includes PM's to other users. Begging is asking other people to donate gold or items to you. It is still begging whether you say it's "just asking" or not.

Flaming/Harassment

Flaming is the deliberate insulting of others by posting offensive or inflammatory messages targeting a user or group of users. This includes sending other users abusive Private Messages, post stalking users to bring up arguments in the forums, and directing rude comments to other users no matter what the cause of it may be.

Everyone who takes part in something like this will be punished. Warnings will be issued and if severe enough, users will be banned. This is at staff discretion.

Public Name-calling

If you are having a problem with another user, or if you suspect wrong-doing of any kind, please do not publicly call these people out.

If you suspect someone is cheating then contact an Assistant Administrator about it and explain the situation to them.

If you have an issue with another user then contact a Moderator or an Assistant Administrator about it. If the problem brings up a viable point that you wish to post about you can do so, but please don't mention the person's name. Public accusations will only lead to unpleasantness which could otherwise have been avoided.

Trolling

Any user who signs up with the sole intention of trolling on the forum boards (spamming, intentionally stirring up trouble, posting offensive messages, creating hate threads, etc.) or through PM to another user, will be banned without notice as this is a direct violation of the Terms of Service.

If a regular user gives in to the temptation of trolling, then they will receive a permanent warning.

Persistent disruptive behaviour

The goal of Menewsha is to provide a fun, enjoyable and relaxing environment for all who utilize the site. Because we are interested in keeping Menewsha a very user friendly environment, the staff of Menewsha reserve the right to step in and neutralize situations that we feel are disruptive to the site as a whole. If a particular user or users is creating an environment that is disruptive to the site's overall well being, the staff reserve the right to take action: should things continue to escalate beyond a level that is acceptable to the culture of Menewsha, offending users will be given an infraction and/or banned (at either a temporary or permanent level).

Abusing the Private Message system or profile comments

This includes the sending of chain letters and unsolicited thread advertisements. These activities are forbidden and anyone found to be doing them will receive a spamming infraction.

Illegal content

Posts containing hacking or pornography etc. will be deleted. The thread author will be BANNED.

Cyber Sex

Cyber sex is not allowed on any of our forums NOR in PMs. This is a PG-13 web site and this type of behavior doesn't belong. Anyone found to be participating in cyber sex through PM's or in any of the forums, you will receive a permanent infraction and banned at the discretion of staff.

Mules

A mule is a second account owned by the same person. You are allowed only ONE mule per person. If you require more than one; for example: to run a charity or a joint shop, you MUST ask permission from a staff member first. If someone is found to have several mules that they do not have permission for, then the extra accounts will be banned and the main account will receive a warning for each additional account found.

If it is found that you have been using more than one mule account to gain gold from the games and then send it off to your legitimate accounts, this will be considered exploitation of the gold system and you WILL be infracted and could end up banned depending on the amount of extra accounts you have made.

You may not have a conversation between your main account and your mule in order to obtain gold. This applies to the role play forum as well.

Multiple accounts on the same IP

Because a number of users have family members/room mates who also belong to Menewsha, and access it via the same ISP, we often end up with a number of accounts using the same IP address. If this is the case in your household or dorm, we ask you to contact a staff member and let us know who everyone is to avoid future confusion.

Please be aware, though, that it's solely the staff's discretion as to whether or not it feels users in question are telling the truth. As staff, we usually have a good idea when two users on the same IP are roommates or siblings as opposed to one user trying to multi-account.

Exploits

You are NOT allowed to use scripts, hacks, bots or anything along those lines to earn gold/event currency. If you are caught in the act of abusing our system, you will be banned.

This includes using scripts/hacks/add-ons for our community games as a way of changing the gold amount for your use, and exploiting coding loop-holes for your own benefit without reporting it to the staff.

Off Site Trading

You are NOT allowed to trade items, gold, or accounts from Menewsha for ANYTHING on any other site. This also includes real money. You will be banned if you are caught doing this

This does not apply to artwork created by other users in the community as that does not belong to the site.

Account Selling

Selling your account is strictly against the rules. If you have a problem with your account contact an assistant administrator.

Advertising

Advertising of other sites with the intent to attract users to enroll with the site, to click on advertising links or to purchase items is strictly forbidden. As is the posting of referral links.

This includes your signature, posts, blog and within private messages and profile comments.

Linking to your profile on another site, your art auctions or dA portfolio however, is fine.

Please do not advertise your exchange shop, art shop, RP thread, etc. in other people's profiles or threads unless they specifically ask for a link. You may add a link to your signature, but please do not spam profile messages, private messages or the forums with unsolicited thread advertising messages

Swearing

Swearing is tolerated if it is in context, but not when aimed at or about another user. Also, please refrain from adding profanity to your thread title, this can cause offense to a great deal of uninvolved bystanders.

PLAGIARISM IS NOT ALLOWED

Any work posted must be your own! Please do NOT post work by other authors (published or otherwise) and try to pass it off as yours.

If you are caught doing this the posts will be deleted, you will lose the gold that you made from them and you will receive one official warning. If you're caught a second time violating this rule, you will be banned.

Posting Rules
Bumping

Making threads for the purpose of bumping for gold is not tolerated. Neither is making posts that say "bump" or that consist solely of an image or emotes. If your thread falls off the first page, you cannot bump it, although you may revive it by posting on-topic after 5 hours have passed.

Spamming

Spam consists of posts with no meaning or relevance to the thread they are made in, and is not allowed. Such posts will be deleted by our moderation staff.

    What is spam on here:

    Meaningless posts, examples:

    • la la laaaa
    • post
    • ^_____^
    • Hi
    • bump

Needless double posting: Double posting is making two or more posts one after the other when there are no other users present within a thread, is it considered a form of spam on here and we'd like you to avoid doing it wherever possible.
Our software will automatically merge together double posts if they are made within a 5 hour timeframe so you don't need to worry about adding something to a previous comment because it will be slotted into your previous post automatically. Just please don't intentionally override the feature for no reason.

You CAN double post after 5 hours to revive a thread, but it does need to be on topic. (This is covered in more depth in the Exchange Forum Rules).

This feature can be overridden when you need to reserve posts in a permanent thread by using the Post Reply option to make a new post and selecting override double post. If you use the override function needlessly (as in to intentionally spam) you'll receive an infraction.

Posting with your main account and then your mule directly afterward, in the same thread, is NOT permitted. Unless you are reserving posts in a permanent thread such as a shop or charity. This also applies if you have access to someone else's account, if you are using another person's account (for whatever reason) you may not post with yours and theirs one after the other unless you are reserving posts.

You can respond to several people in one post easily by using the multi-quote button: Click multi-quote in the post of each person that you want to respond to, then click the Post Reply button and all the quotes will appear in the same post for you to add your responses to. This feature doesn't work with the quick reply box.

Image spam: Posting nothing but a picture or smiley with no accompanying text is not allowed. Posting an array of unnecessary images or emoticons in a post is also a form of image spam.
Posting random (and often offensive) images in stranger's profiles is also a form of image spam, please don't do this as it is rarely welcomed or appreciated.

Single word posts: Single word posts must be relevant to the thread; for example part of the conversation. It's fine to respond to something your friend said with "lol". It is NOT ok though, to go posting "lol" or "hi" and so on at random in stranger's threads, this is spamming and will be deleted and you'll receive an infraction for it.

Repetition/dragging things out: Typing the same word over and over in the same post, or adding excessive extra letters to words. If you do this persistently the unnecessary words/letters will be deleted so you'll lose gold, and you'll receive an infraction for spamming.

Thread necroing:Please do not reply to threads older than 6 months or otherwise considered significantly out-of-date. (The actual necroing date may vary across subforums.) Posting in an old thread without contributing to the subject is an example of necroing, especially if the thread content itself is dated.

In some forums where the subject matter remains relatively unchanged, or the forum is very small (debates for example), necroing is not an issue if the topic remains relevant. In the Books and Media forums which have thread directories, you're allowed to post in any of the threads listed, regardless of age.

Posting of Chain Letters or Quizzes: Neither of these promote good discussion and they will be locked.

Repeat threads: These are not allowed and they will be locked. Most of the smaller forums have an index in them now. Please check them before posting a new thread.

Posting the same message and/or image in each one of your posts: This includes signing your name at the end of each of your posts.

Copy/pasting content from other sites: Posting lyrics to songs or anything else copied and pasted from other articles/sites, this includes "spoonfeed" questions from other users. If you would like to post lyrics, articles or spoons, you must put them within these quotation tabs -

This includes Skype or other messenger conversations you or someone else has had.

To summarize, ANYTHING not written by you must be posted within the quote tabs. This is because you cannot earn gold for anything written by somebody else.

Flobs and other post decoration

Adding a flob or extra images/text to the beginning and end of each of your posts is a form of spam and is not permitted. If you are found to be adding these to your posts, they will be edited out, you will lose the gold gained from the text within the code and you will receive a warning. This includes hatchable characters from other web sites.

Spoonfeed questions

"Spoons" are questions that people often add at the end of their post, to give anyone who responds something specific to reply to.

If you want to answer someone's spoons by pasting them into your own post then you MUST put them within these quote tabs..
spoons here
This is because you are not allowed to earn gold for something that someone else has written.

Posting in languages other than English

English is the default language on this site, so we ask that you post in English wherever possible. The main reason for this is for prevention of spam. The majority of the staff are English speaking and cannot translate text posted in a wide variety of languages accurately, so for this reason we ask that you stick to English wherever possible, particularly in the Literature subforum.

Posting the odd word, such as proper names, or the occasional phrase or sentence is fine though. Just not entire paragraphs and so on.

If you wish to engage in discussion using any other language, please do so in either the Menewsha Nation or Education forums. These are the only forums where posting large amounts of text in any language other than English is currently permitted. The only exception is during site events. On these occasions, foreign language hang-out threads may be created within the event forum itself.

If a new user makes a Fresh Meat thread in a language other than English you can greet them and explain about the language rule in their own language, but please post it within the quote tabs, these-->

and write it in English underneath.

Page stretching

Any page stretching posts may be deleted or edited without consent from the poster. This also includes signatures and images.

Signatures

Our sig limits are 350 pixels high by 500 pixels wide. Our software automatically crops signatures that exceed this, text included.

The KB limit for image sizes is 150. Animated images often exceed this, so do check them first.

To check your signature file size, right click on the image and:

    • For Firefox - select "view image info" this will show you the both the pixel and KB size.
    • For Chrome - select "inspect element". A line of code will be highlighted. The image source should be underlined, click there and it will show you the info that you need.

Please don't use a sig that is explicit in nature or obscene, abusive, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented, racially charged or any other material that may violate applicable laws.
