Emeralds and rubies and saphires are actually more rare than diamonds are and the really nice quality ones are worth more so it's better to get one of them than a diamond.

actually they toss crates full of diamonds into the ocean and make tv commercials for diamonds that heighten their status so that people will pay more for them. It's kind of a debeers conspiracy. we learned about it in my 2nd year international politics class

I also read that cubic zirconia is molecularity the same as diamond it's just not as hard.

I've heard something like that while we were learning about blood diamonds. ._.; Now I would much have something with a pearl. They aren't as rare and they're my birthstone anyways. But it seems kind of cheap for a wedding, if you think about it...
