I have a friend who claims that they make laptops for $3,500 that would normally cost about $17,000 from DELL.
And I do believe them, cause DELL is the devil and would overcharge for underpowered crap anyways.
Plus no bloatware and you can choose whatever OS you want!
So a $3,000 desktop would also be quite the expensive one through retail manufacturers like DELL, MDG, HP or Acer.
Which are all crap companies.

That's insane! I didn't realize that they over-priced by that much! I figured that there was a little gouging because of the huge corporation thing, but I never would have imagined it was that high!
