I'm back from the soulless abyss of insanity.

Rylynne 08-12-2009 10:10 PM

@ Suona : I meant MY 6pm is your 3am. xDD;; Not YOUR 6pm. >;] <3<3

@ LittleFiend : Semiotics is basically symbolisms in media and how the media uses said symbolisms to put hidden meanings. :3 Like, showing two contrasting images side by side in a newspaper can have double meanings and stuff like that~ ^^ <3<3

Usually your school will tell you in the summer before (that's what happened my freshman year) or you can either go to the bookstore at the school and they may have on file what books are needed for each class OR you can wait and go to the first day of class. Waiting is usually a good idea for a lot of classes because sometimes the professors will tell you that you don't need this book or that book or offer online resources for you or will tell you some cheap way to get a book (like saying an older edition is just as good or something).

Suona 08-12-2009 10:13 PM

@ Ry - You lost me
But go do your school silly!

LittleFiend 08-12-2009 10:14 PM

@ Ry: That sounds really interesting! Best of luck with all your work, I know you said you have to leave.

Rylynne 08-12-2009 10:14 PM

I meant that when it's 6pm my time, it's 3am your time. :3
Or so I think. xDD;;

And NOO, I don't wanna. D:

But if I do disappear, it's because I left already, lolz. xDD;;
I'm riding with my dad today~ :3 <3<3

And thankies, LittleFiend! ^^ <3<3

Jeannesha 08-12-2009 10:15 PM

Little, yes. I actually started out with a double major - Computer Science and Math. Then my senior year I dropped a math class cuz of an irrational teacher (aren't they all?). I didn't really need the double major anyway.
IBM had already hired me, based on my CompSci major.

Really? ._.'

I'm worried if I wait though that they won't have any used versions and I'll have to pay for a new one. >w<

LittleFiend 08-12-2009 10:23 PM

@Jean: Pretty sweet! I didn't have irrational teachers until grad school, loved a good bunch of my undergrad ones!

@Ananas: Usually you're okay if you head to the bookstore right after the first class. Sometimes teachers will tell you if a book is likely to run out and it's a race against time (ha ha) but even if they do run out of used ones you can check websites like half.com. I never used those websites... But occasionally did have to buy a new textbook. USUALLY when I bought a new one, though, it was because there were next to NO used books and I wouldn't have had much of a shot of getting a used one anyway, or the used and new prices were so close that I figured I'd pay the extra few dollars and get a book that was in a little bit better condition (they sold the better condition used books first).
It can be a gamble, so it's all up to you. I had a roommate (Art History major... I was an Animal Science major) who ONLY got her books through half.com so she could try and save money and she was never disappointed. Whatever you decide, good luck! And you can always call the school if you're a freshman and unsure what to do about books. :)

Anyway guys I have to get going... Lots of work to do... :( It was nice chatting with you all perhaps I'll see some of you around again. :)

Suona 08-12-2009 10:24 PM

@ Ry - I'll take your word for it. lol

FakeSunShine 08-12-2009 10:28 PM

Ananas à Pois 08-12-2009 10:28 PM

LittleFiend: Thanks a lot for the advice. =]
I'll keep it in mind. n_________________n

See you whenever, I guess.

Sunshine: That's true too, good thinkin'.
My orientation's the 20th. D=
It came so fast!

Jeannesha 08-12-2009 10:30 PM

Having to buy new books was the pits.
Summer is definitely the time to hit the bookstore and find a used copy.

But, did you have a good time there?? See any old friends along the way? Insanity is so much more fun when you have company, don't you think?

Y'all who are going to college, doesn't your bookstore have an online thingy where you can look up which books you need before the semester starts? I know some of the bookstores will wait till the last minute, but they have to have the book lists from the instructors at least by the end of the previous semester. So, if all else fails, try contacting your instructors or wait till the beginning of the term.

FakeSunShine 08-12-2009 10:33 PM

Ananas à Pois 08-12-2009 10:45 PM
