I remember watching this competition show and there was one of the bakers who made a similar-pattered roll like that. They get the colored dough all laid out first, in the pattern you want (in this case, the cherry blossom flowers and the branches), then roll the roll dough over it, so that it sticks to the larger dough and becomes a part of it. :3 |

The guy who made the roll on TV was also making a cherry blossom roll, and he even had a cherry blossom core for the roll! Like, in the shape of a flower and all. And even if you cut it, all the slices have the same flower shape inside. It's amazing, wish I had his skills. :XD |
