What is your favorite Holiday Story?

There are so many holiday stories out there. Some with cute rhymes and some with cute morals. I loved to be read to, as a child, and seemed to favor a single story. It's the story of the mitten lost in the forest, and the animals gather inside it to keep warm until it unravels. I can't remember the name of the story, but it always made me giggle inside.
So, as the title reads, What is your favorite Holiday Story?

I'd have to say the christmas carol (is that what it's called?). It's so well known and all but I think that that was the first christmas story that stuck with me. Of course, until recently I've only read the kid friendly versions. I read the original one and ended up turning on all the lights in my house before going anywhere...

neller 12-24-2009 06:59 PM

Lol!
It's definitely a good story (at least the most pubicized (darn, I can't spell) version is!)
I never read the original. You comment makes me sort of afraid to read it.

Aoi Kazuya 12-24-2009 07:06 PM

nah, it's not scary, it's just I have a much to vivid imagination  my parents kept wandering what was wrong with me XD

neller 12-24-2009 07:11 PM

I have a vivid imagination too! XD
I see things way too easily. x.x

I think my favorite one is "The Night Before Christmas." =D It's sweet and it RHYMES and has RHYTHM, which is always awesome. It's a timeless classic for a reason, and it'll always be timeless for me.

My favourite Christmas time story is about Saint Nicholas (the german version) since half of my family is german :3 So I grew up with a very scary Santa Claus version whilst little o.o;;

Aoi Kazuya 12-24-2009 07:23 PM

ooh, I think I read one of those before, it was...interesting. I always do enjoy reading things like this from different cultures. ^^

Terry Prachett's story on 'Hogswatch' is pretty insightful... It's not cute but it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside...
General Plot: the Hogfather (Hogswatch's version of santa) goes missing so Death takes his place in spreading Hogswatch cheer. Hilarity ensues, and several questions arise about the true meaning of Hogswatch...

Yeah I love having two family backgrounds, but since my dad was born in Africa (Pretty diverse no?) I even had African stories at night time when I was little, and all the demons and scary stuff from three cultures :P Much fun. Toglelosh (can't spell it oh dear) is my favourite african demon >=D The demon that hides under your bed unless you have bricks to lift the bed up!

Edit: I love the Hogfather! That was such a funny film to me. It was amazing.

Aoi Kazuya 12-24-2009 08:03 PM

both sound interesting, seems I will be doing some research over break

CuddlyQuiche 12-24-2009 08:05 PM

D: Oh noes research? How evil, xD yes I love looking at various cultures since so much of it seems to blend as you go across the map but at the two end of the spectrum they're so different!

Hmmmm... The nightmare before Christmas scared the heck out of me as a kid... I still have problems with that movie.
And you people have good taste! yayyyy hogfather!
I like the grinch who stole christmas, however.

CuddlyQuiche 12-24-2009 08:32 PM

The Grinch who stole Christmas is so funny. I love both the cartoon and the live action one! So funny! <3 And I love the dancing. Just random.

`Haru 12-24-2009 09:06 PM

I've always liked 'The little Drummer Boy'.
...Pa-rup-pa-pum-pum... ; D

Librus 12-24-2009 09:08 PM

But of course! The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. haha Such nostalgia. <3

The Nightmare Before Christmas and Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer are my favorites. Speaking of which, is anyone else watching this really trippy version of Rudolf right now? It's like a musical and there's a transvestite hippo...I just turned it off...it was weird...but interesting. xD

I watched the movie based off of the book, I guess then. Is the book as strange as the movie?

The Nutcracker, i've always loved the story ever since I first heard of it when I was a child. I even started collecting nutcrackers each year since I was six just because of that magical story. I just love the characters and the plot. I've always found the prince to be charming and i've always sort of related with Maria/Clara ( for some odd reason in different versions she's called either Maria or Clara. ) I'm starting to get more interested in the other characters like the Mouse king and Uncle Drosselmeiyer ( I know for sure I didn't spell his name right... ) I can't wait to see what sort of nutcracker I got this year. :D

I also have loved Nightmare before Christmas since I was a kid but I still consider that more of a Halloween movie. :P

Awh that's cute. I saw the play of that once.

maidenroseheart 12-25-2009 03:13 AM

A rendition of "The Night Before Christmas." It is called "The Night Before Jesus Came." Kinda touches one.

akinmytua 12-25-2009 03:44 AM

I have always like the story of the little match girl. It always makes me cry, but it is sooo sweet. I like the other stories as well, but that one is my favorite.

MissAndroid 12-25-2009 04:45 AM

I always thought that the story of the origin of christmas stockings was really cute.
