Which is Worse?
There's just something about winter that puts us in the mood for snowy landscapes, brightly coloured gifts, candies, incessant caroling, repetitive Christmas specials, and gaudy light displays. The feeling reaches a boiling point as the tree is put up and the presents are wrapped in intricately designed paper, and carefully piled around it. The anxiety builds before you get to open up the gifts. This is where my question comes in, What kind of people are worse: Those who, in total disregard of the time it took to package the present, rip the paper and take the gift? Or Those who, after waiting an entire month for their gifts, take careful precaution to take the paper off without damaging it? [: |
Hmm..
I'm thinking those who just rip it off. >.< Although I suppose if those taking careful precaution take for-freaking-ever to actually open the gift you hand picked and are anxious to see their reaction too, that would be much more annoying. |
i'd definitely say the worse people are the ones who take their sweet freakin time and try not to damage the paper. that's part of the fun! sometimes opening a gift is actually more fun than receiving it. like when some of your family don't know you very well and just give you something random...
|
I have to totally say those who take so freaking long to open it. My brother took forever to open what I bought him this year (of course it did have 2 rolls of tape on it) and I took it from him and ripped the paper off. I was so annoyed. My boyfriend did the same thing only he didn't have all the tape, but every time I tried to take it and rip the paper off, he would pull it out of my reach. Stupid guys and their need to annoy me....
|
@ Glam, I like to see their reactions, too. I think it's the best part. @Harjel I agree to some extent, some gifts need to be just torn into, but there are some that need to at least be admired if it's extravagant, then you tear into them. @Mehimaru Ugh, I hate that. My boyfriend did the same thing, and his gift was really quickly wrapped. At least when he unwrapped it, it made a funny pope hat shape. xD |
I agree that some just need to be torn into. It's more fun that way. Sometimes I'll wrap up my dads gift with tons of paper and loads of tape, box inside of box, inside of box. xD If he took his time opening that, I'd have to rip it open myself. o.o
|
Hmm... I have to say the people who take too long to open it.
The wrapping paper's pretty and all, but the gift inside is more important. Although it's best to give a gift from the heart instead of the wallet. |
@ Glam THOSE ARE THE BEST~! : ] @ Shin I concur *nod nod* |
O.o Neeeh, that's a hard question. I think it's the first kind of people. I'm one of those people who save the wrapping paper for everything and stuff. But I don't know, I'm not getting into a fight.
|
Yeah they're a lot of fun. My dad did that to me one year - wrapped it up, box after box, inside of box, and I had to get him back. Did it two years in a row but didn't have time this year. Next year I'll do it, catch him off guard.
|
Hmmm.... since I'm of the latter, I suppose I just really don't like the wrapping being ripped off. I don't HATE those careless people, but I don't like seeing that. Though, if unwrapping a present takes you forever, you could annoy other people and you make the impression of a neat-freak.
*is indecisive* |
I think its the ones who take their sweet time and make sure the paper that will be thrown away anyways isnt a crumpled heap on the floor O_o unless they plan to keep that wrapping paper for some odd reason >.> i'd rather people want to rip the paper off to see what they got
|
@ Cupcake I think it really just depends on the situation. When I unwrap gifts, I try not to rip any of the paper up too bad, I usually just open it on one side and slide it out :3 *nod nod* @Glam xD That's pretty epic. I think I'm going to do that with my little sister, she likes getting big gifts, so maybe I'll get her something small and wrap it up big. @Chalkboard I think it takes an even balance, but most people are either one or the other, it's rare to see someone in the middle. @Sythn Well, I don't know it's easier to throw away paper when it's not so crumpled, though it does help when it's ripped into smaller pieces, kinda like with boxes ^ -^ |
I don't like making a big mess with the wrappings, but at my house we have tons of rolls of paper so it's no big deal to keep it. But just like my brother and my boyfriend annoy me by taking their sweet time with the unwrapping, my niece and nephews (ages 12, 10, and 7) annoy me by just ripping the paper off and throwing it where ever. My mom always puts a BIG trash bag in the middle of everyone just for the wrappings and the kids never use it. They just throw it anywhere they want. It drives me nuts cause I'm the one that's got to pick it all up. *sigh* children....
Oh and my fav holiday decoration is candles, especially white ones! |
@Mehimaru xD It seems that you can't win for losing. I know how that feels though, you'd think they'd learn by watching everyone else. *nod nod* Oh yeah I love those candles~! I forgot about them!! |
Yeah it's a lot of fun. xD
Usually I give my dad something small and useless and have him waste his time, but I'm thinking next year I'll get him something really nice and do the same thing. He'll never expect it. |
My opinion is that the most annoying people are the ones who wrapped a present all pretty and then get angry if you rip it violently open.
Not the people who rip it open violently or the people who rip it up slowly. Neither of those people bother me in the slightest. It's the people who are too busy obsessing over the wrappings and appearance of Christmas, instead of the goodness and joy and happiness and presents (a.k.a. obsessed with the outside instead of the inside) that annoy me. I take FOREVER wrapping presents and I try really hard because I'm so bad at it, but I'm never thinking about that when someone's opening a present I gave to them. What I'm thinking about is wondering with excitement what their reactions are going to be when they see what I got them. |
Yea, Lucid, the candle are the best. I got this one that is green and red swirly with white snowflakes all over it. So pretty!!! and those kids are so bad. I just found out that the youngest was kicking my chihuahua and squeezing orange juice all over him. Such bad kids!
|
for me it realy doesnt feel like the holidays untill the wreaths are put up.
|
Definitely the people who take forever! I just want to start whistling the Jeopardy theme song. XD
|
I would say, from the two choices you gave, that the people who take forever to open their presents more annoying.
The gift is more important than the wrapping, I mean are you really going to reuse the wrapping? really? |
@ Glam That happened to my Cousin's boyfriend, she got him a GPS, and he was expecting something for his tractor. @ Tiara I know what you mean. I take a long time trying to wrap it, but not because I want someone to admire it, but really because of two things, I'm terrible at wrapping gifts so they usually end up looking like lumpy pillows or something, and I do it for the kids ^ -^ It's nice to get that gift from "Santa" all nice and tidy with the cute little signature. @Mehimaru That sounds awesome @ [email protected] Oh my goodness about the kids though. I don't EVER remember being THAT bad D; Poor doggie. @NummyKiwi I know what you mean, Those wreaths are just so warm and cozy : ] @Agent xD Maybe next time you should? Bwahaha, but that's a bit mean :3 *nod nod* @Dizzy I know how that feels, You can buy a thing of wrapping paper for a couple of dollars, and it lasts~! |
The latter, because it is pointless to save the paper cause it has already been damaged by tape and folding.
|
People who take forever to open their gifts. I really don't care if they make tons of shreds, I just want see if they like it or not. |
I must admit, I do both. Though I only tear off slowly when the paper is pretty. I find it annoying when other people do it though... I typically just tear the paper off.
