L33t is the "language" of replacing letters with numbers or symbols. It's related to chat speak in that it was used to text back before the one where it spells out words for you became common.

Oh well I learned soemething new then today I knew the substuting numbers for letters was commoen but I didn't know there was a name for it

I have never used the T9 on my phone.
Whenever I add names to the phonebook, I just use the alpha.

I also only use the Alpha, I find the T9 does weird things some times.
