Yeah... then saying it's a fic about Princess Tutu characters put in the roles of the Little Mermaid wouldn't do you much good. At least that's how it started but it's quickly turning into it's own, unique and fun little story.
Edit: Fanfic is short for fan fiction. It's basically writing a story with characters and a setting that isn't your own. It's really common to find them for a movie or series with an open end or if it's just really popular. For instance: you could easily find a fanfic about Han Solo and Princess Leia getting married if you looked into Star Wars fanfiction. Or maybe a story about how Han met Chewbacca. |
Granny. Fanfic or fanfiction is stories that the fans of series write stories about situations for the characters. They can be really funny and really entertaining.... and i don't think that's the best definition but it kinda works.
Wow... this thread is moving quite quickly.
at nanami, this is actually way slower than it was moving last night.
Yeah, the thread is quite manageable right now. Most everyone must be at work or doing last minute Christmas things.
yep... i actually have to leave for work soon. I have a three and a half hour shift at chickfila....
Oh, now I understand.
I also understand why people like to write them. It gives you some control over the characters! |
Yes it does... and you can change some details you'd rather ignore. Like certain character deaths at the end of series. Those are very common in the Harry Potter fanfic section.
For the most part I do it because a movie or series had a very open end. Princess Tutu leaves off with basically "an ending is just another beginning" and while it was a good ending a lot of the fans enjoy writing "what if" scenarios.
I also find it good practice, I don't have to worry about character development and can work on plot and keeping characters in character right now. |
I'm back!
I read fanfics when I typically don't like what the author did.... though sometimes I enjoy the more just open-ended type stuff. Like with the end of Tamora Pierce's, Protector of the Small series... there is a lot more to be done and so fanfic fills that in.

Welcome back, Opal!
Hello *waves* Merry Christmas Eve! :)
We're talking fanfics? I love fanfics! Especially when they're of movies!
I guess it feels fast because I keep leaving for other stuff. >.<;
hello chocolate pie!
I walked away to blow my nose and ten people posted! Sometimes it's really faxt. XB
Which movies, Opal? I love Labyrinth fanfics, especially the ones that pair up Jareth and Sarah! |
hm... I don't do many movie fanfics... most books.... every now and then a video game or manga/anime. I like Star Wars fic every now and then or a good LOTR (but i guess that doesn't really qualify b/c it's movie and a book)
All kinds of movies! Mainly ones with my favorite actors! I don't know if you've heard of these: Reservoir Dogs, The Patriot, Dune...etc.

If you haven't heard of Dune there's something wrong with you. Oh! Patric Stewart, you're awesome no matter what you're doing!
Oh my. I thought that nobody was posting, and that my last post was the most current.
Suddenly, we're two more pages along! Yes, even I know what Dune is about! (Well, I should. I love science fiction) |
I've heard of Dune and The Patriot but never seen either.
I like the 1984 version (even though it's not completely accurate to book) It has Sting in it (one of his acting debuts)
It's okay, Granny. The live update must be kinda stressed with how many threads are just whizzing away right now. XB
All I know about Dune is that Patric Stewart was in it, it was way too long, and the Spice must flow. |
