I was just thinking, 10 more minutes till midnight. I'll probably switch it to ABC or something to watch the ball drop. XD

Nanenna 01-01-2010 04:50 AM

Ah... I still haven't read Emma yet! My book collecting is somewhat on hold as most of my things are in storage and I'm not sure what I do or don't own. I should just go get Emma on my next payday, I know I don't own it yet. ^^; But I just found all of Pretear on DVD nearly mint condition and it's only going to be $60... I really want it! D:

Soul Searcher 01-01-2010 04:52 AM

@Peoples who are asking about the books by Mark Twain:
Erm.... no... actually... wait... O.o Maybe? xDD Sorry, I have to read this book for school that is supposedly banned in our public schools here... but since I haven't read it yet I can't remember which one it is. Haha. Whoops. ^^:;;

@Grannyj: I liked Emma!! I watched a good version of the book in movie form once too. =) After reading most of Jane Austins books though I kinda got over her. I mean yes, they are really interesting but the plot is a little obvious after a while. ^^;; Characters too. They become very similar.

I've not read a Jane Austen book yet actually. I don't like reading romance in class english... it's too hard to read. Romance stuff for me should be mindless reading... and classic english takes anything away from mindless reading.

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 04:54 AM

Nenna, you can find all of Jane Austen's books online at the Gutenburg Press.
You can download the txt files. They are free.

I would also suggest Edith Wharton.

=O Mindless? ugh! That kills me! If there is no imagination within the creation I cannot stand it! >_<

Just saying.....

Nanenna 01-01-2010 04:55 AM

I suppose Miss Austen doesn't need the money from us buying her books anymore... but is it legal?

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 04:57 AM

Oh yes. Guttenburg carries only authors who are not copyrighted.

You will find all of Austen, Dickens, Edith Wharton, also the person who wrote Anne of Green Gables.

I'm an english major so I spend a good portion of my time reading things like the Odyssey and Shakespeare and Dickens and the Canterbury Tales and Sir Gawain that every now and then I just want to read something that i don't have to think to read. That's when I pick up something like Christine Feehan and her vampire romances or a Piers Anthony novel. Something well written but there's no hidden meaning behind the plot and you don't have to disect the words to read it.

Nanenna 01-01-2010 04:58 AM

No! Not Luisa May Alcott! I love those books! I have the entire Anne series (except I think book 5 which I loaned to someone and never got back) and I'd love to read more of her stuff! *runs over there now*

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:00 AM

Happy New Year! *throws confetti*

For those in my my time zone at least. XD

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 05:00 AM

I don't believe Louisa May Alcott wrote the Anne of Green Gable series?
She wrote Little Women. But those books would be there also.

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:00 AM

I've never read Anne of Green Gables. But I had to see a play of it for a friend's birthday one year.

I never read Little Women either. XD

Edit: I just heard fireworks go off outside. XD

Soul Searcher 01-01-2010 05:02 AM

@Wings of Writing: Hm, well there is a difference between well written and understandable and badly written as well as transparent. If its the former, then yes, those types can be nice reads. ^^;;;

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 05:02 AM

The Little Women movie with Winona Ryder is very good.

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:03 AM

I never watched the Little Women movie either. XD

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 05:04 AM

Back to Edith Wharton - I saw the movie Age of Innocence, and then got the book.
It was wonderful to read.

She also has an excellent way of using words.

Wings of Writing 01-01-2010 05:05 AM

@Soul Searcher: Yeah I don't read anything that's crappy writing. I just like to read stuff that's not really completely impossible to understand sometimes.

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:05 AM

Granny, What's Age of Innocence? I've never heard of it.

GrannyJ 01-01-2010 05:06 AM

Yes, we have many fireworks, and guns being shot.
It isn't even midnight here yet.

Sovie Kays 01-01-2010 05:06 AM

Happy New Year everyone! It's officially TWENTY TEN!

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:06 AM

lol. It's 2010 here now. And has been for six minutes. XD

Wings of Writing 01-01-2010 05:07 AM

we've got a constant stream of fireworks but nothing big yet.... but we've got an hour until midnight

TerrenaAnimula 01-01-2010 05:07 AM

I hear sirens now. XD
Technically, no one is supposed to be setting off fireworks in the city.

Soul Searcher 01-01-2010 05:08 AM

Yup... hour till.... Then I get to say happy birthday to a friend via facebook! xDD haha.
