Yeah, I love the movie, which is probably the main reason I want to read the book. I generally like to experience all versions of a thing I enjoy, because it's fun to compare and contrast the different mediums used to tell essentially the same story. And sometimes they fail, and I cry. And other times, it's simply amazing.

tirethminet 12-26-2009 01:01 AM

the book and movie of howl's moving castle are very different. but both are entirely excellent.
i'm not going to explain the details of how they are different, though, since that will just spoil it for you.
but i'm also going to recommend you read castle in the air and house of many ways if you like the book. they are sort of sequels to hmc, but they are about different characters in the same universe, chronologically after hmc. and, of course, howl and sophie keep showing up.
ps, castle in the air is not the same as miyazaki's castle in the sky. at all. well. aside from the floating-castle-with-a-massive-garden bit, but everything else, no.

andand. i just kind of squeed at you getting stardust. it was very nifty. though a lot of it is different than the movie. but again, not spoiling~ except it made me cry where the movie did not. ;_;

RisikaFox 12-26-2009 01:05 AM

Yeah, I was kinda figuring the books would be different from the movies. In fact, I generally prefer to read books before seeing movies, but sadly, it's a pain to research every interesting-looking movie to see if there's already a book with the same story. xD

And I actually did get Castle in the Air as well. ^^

Dream_and_Die 12-26-2009 01:05 AM

:pokes leenie with cane:
You're back! :hugs: I still need to get House of many ways.

Knerd 12-26-2009 01:05 AM

Really? I'd never heard of those sequels before. Maybe my library carries them...

tirethminet 12-26-2009 01:25 AM

bwahaha, yesssss. read it soooooon~

then go get it, woman.
actually. i know what you're waiting for.
i'm still not sure if i want to go back and get the hardcovers of the first two or get the paperback of house of many ways.
and why are you poking me with a ca- oooohhhhh~ fishiesses. where did you get them? 8D

FIND THEM, KNERD, THEY ARE FUN. especially castle in the air, since it's based around more arabian-type things instead of england-types.

Dream_and_Die 12-26-2009 01:34 AM

You are so distracted. xD
Yes, I was waiting for paperback, then I forgot, now I'm broke from the holidays. ^_^

Fishes, Yin Yang CI from three (maybe four) months ago?

Sevens 12-26-2009 01:38 AM

I finally got my hands on a copy of Linnets and Valerians and am reading it now. (So far, it is much love.) I've also got Steel Remains that I'm partway through, except it being paperback and me being traveling, I... don't have it with me. orz

tirethminet 12-26-2009 01:40 AM

i'm hyper. no clue why, since i'm sick and full and in pain.
BUT IT'S THERE.

anyway, you should get it soon. or you'll forget again.

and. man. i gotta keep remembering to come here during non-event times so i can save up gold for things.
i keep getting...
distracted. ._____.;;

sevens, that's so sad. you must read it once you are done travelling~

Sevens 12-26-2009 01:44 AM

tireth: Perhaps you have had sugar? OAO; And being distracted is sad. :( Though I'm the same, so. orz

It's something to look forward to at least! And in the meanwhile I have Linnets and Valerians to tide me over. |D

SeppukuXAngel 12-26-2009 01:45 AM

I got Glenn Beck's new book The Christmas Sweater and plan to buy many books with the money I received. ^W^

Dream_and_Die 12-26-2009 01:49 AM

There are times when you're not hyper leenie?

tirethminet 12-26-2009 03:14 AM

yes there are. D:
but i can't say exactly when they'll be. even at work, i'm sometimes hyper.

and sevens, the only sugar i had were small pieces of cheesecake and buche de noel.
no candy or anything.
distracted is pretty much my state of being. @[email protected];;

Knerd 12-26-2009 03:48 AM

Buche de noel? That's kind of like a sponge cake, right?

tirethminet 12-26-2009 04:21 AM

well... not really?
they're called yule logs in english.
it's a flat cake rolled with sweet cheese (like cream cheese, sorta) and decorated to look like... a log.
FRANCE IS SO WEIRD. <3

Knerd 12-26-2009 04:27 AM

Ah, you Frenchies. My family is German, so I wouldn't know anything like that.

tirethminet 12-26-2009 05:17 AM

but. i'm not french. just nearly my entire household can speak it to some (minimal) extent. XD

~~xXEl3KtRaXx~~ 12-26-2009 08:19 AM

I got 3 books this christmas (which is like 6 stories)...but only two of them were new

I got alice in wonder + through the looking glass as on book (its like my 5th or so copy just different cover xD)
Wicked
and the wizard of oz, the emerald city of oz and glinda of oz (one book)
xD

Phoenixxangel 12-26-2009 03:35 PM

Oh that's awesome =3 Quite inspiring thought though =3

I have loads of books from Borders XD they were shutting down in the uk so everything was at least 70% off... then 90% off and I got 13 books for 11 pounds!! It's awesome =3 I'm reading one of them at the moment, Angel Time by Anne Rice (which is ok... her writing style in this one is just.... simple and almost juvenile... >< that's just my opinion though)

Xurxo 12-26-2009 03:49 PM

I got...Comics and Manga. XD No books, I usually just ask my dad for a Borders or Barnes and Nobel giftcard because then I can pick out what I want. :> Plan on getting some books about the Cold War. I'm more into Nonfiction lately.

I should do the fifty book challenge this year. I probably have fifty books that I haven't read, or that I have read and don't remember. xD

Knerd 12-26-2009 04:17 PM

Wicked is a pretty good book. Not one of my personal favorites, but it's written really well.

I actually just had the chance to see that musical last week - Amazing costumes and set!

Iltu 12-26-2009 05:21 PM

I liked the book Wicked alright, but I don't think I was old enough/educated enough to understand a lot of the allusions and metaphors, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. It was a very odd book- my women in liteature teacher and I have had a lot of conversations about things we're still trying to peice together.

The play was fabulous- it hurts me to say it, but I liked it more than the book in most aspects. XD Except for Fiyero's character, I enjoyed him much more in the book.

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-26-2009 05:36 PM

Aw, well, I haven't really read many books this year. I've already read most of the ones here at home. But I can still post, right? I'm dying to chat with people, and books are fun. :P

Inara 12-26-2009 05:54 PM

I didn't receive any books for Christmas.
I don't think anyone would know what kind of books to get me.
I'm very easily entertained, though.
Right now, I'm reading Brisingr.

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-26-2009 06:04 PM

BRISINGR!? Cool. I still have to finish Eldest.

I sort-of got a couple of books for Christmas.

I bought myself the paperback version of... lessee if I get the name right XD... The Bourne Identity

And Sis and I and Mom are sharing a Fantastic 4 novel. =P

MWHAHAHAHAHAHHA~ XD
