I think she was just having fun with it, and as I said, I haven't actually read the paper. I don't know what grade she got either.

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-27-2009 02:33 PM

@Legos: Exactly! I mean, we have to unite and make sure our libraries NEVER EVER go out of buisness, right? :P

@Cami: Huh. Alrighty then, thanks for the info. :)
And hey, does your sister-in-law play Menewsha?

Cami 12-27-2009 02:35 PM

No, she's not really into the internet culture. XD

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-27-2009 02:37 PM

@Cami: Dang. :XD
Are you sure you can't drag her here, even temporarily, just for a little chat about Nancy Drew? :XP

Cami 12-27-2009 02:40 PM

Probably not. XD Sorry.

She actually just had a baby, so I think her "learning new things" threshold is filled with baby care info.

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-27-2009 02:42 PM

Oh, okay... then drag her over here so I can say "Congrats on your baby-birthing" and then chat with her about Nancy Drew? :XD

Zarq 12-27-2009 02:45 PM

@Zilithandria Moonlight: Ok! No more movies, I'm glad you specified which books to get as I really know nothing about Nancy Drew and am happy for the help.

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-27-2009 02:47 PM

@Zarq: Well, other people like the movies. I just like the books, I was into the books first, the books were made first, and I'm a Nancy Drew Purist, I guess. :XD
By the way, if you come across a cloth-covered Nancy Drew books, check the publishing date. It might be one of the first ones published. This is kind of important because the original 52-book series was reprinted at least 3 times and they differ slightly from print to reprint to reprint, probably due to the current culture of the time. :P

@Zilithandria Moonlight: Wow, I can be semi-smarticle at times, in the way I type things down. 0_0'
Now, now, me, let's not be getting a big head, over this, myself. I don't need to add egotism to my negative repertoir. Or however that's spelled. See how stupid I am, me? :XD

Legos on the floor 12-27-2009 03:02 PM

You're talking about being a Nancy Drew Purist; I think that's one of the subjects people are allowed to be like that on. :XP

Same here. I actually got it in the airport right before I went on vacation. Borders was right next to our terminal, so I wandered in there and it was displayed on the back shelf in the center so it was the first thing you saw right when you walked in. By that point, I had the play's CD memorized and desperately wanted to see the stage production and read the book, so I got it. I read it that spring break, and it brought down my mood some once I was done.
I was fourteen at the time, so I'm not suprised that I didn't necessarily understand much besides a few historical alusions and the overall plot. It drove me nuts, though, I knew I was missing out on so much! I want to maybe reread it every few years or so, see what I've learned and what new things can be gleaned from it every time. It's the sort of book you can read ten times and still find something new.

Cami 12-27-2009 03:22 PM

I read some Nancy Drew when I was younger, but I don't remember much about them.

Right now I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Zilithandria Moonlight 12-27-2009 05:08 PM

@Legos and Cami: Oops, sorry, I've been playing Second Life and Epic War.

@Legos: Yep, that, Transformers, and Star Trek, or you get something really stupid and say it's good just because it has a certain title. *Thinking of the newer Transformers series (whoops that's a TV series, ahahaha) and the Star Trek series Enterprise* :XD

@Cami: Aww, that's a shame. :(
Go read some Nancy Drew!! :XD
What's that book about? And if it's a Nancy Drew book, I've only read about 46 out of 52. Maybe 48. :XP

Legos on the floor 12-27-2009 05:32 PM

Hm, it's been a very long time since I've read Nancy drew as well, which is kind of odd seeing as I like mysteries.
Maybe I should pick some up, too.

Knerd 12-27-2009 09:47 PM

You know, I never read Nancy Drew. Or the Boxcar Children, or any kid's mystery books like that. Mysteries just don't interest me. I remember even getting bored by shows like Scooby-Do.

I don't know, I tend to associate mysteries with fluff reading. I just picture my grandmother rereading her dollar-store mysteries for the thousandth time because she can't remember how it ends. I'm sure that there's good quality ones out there, I've just never found them.

Iltu 12-27-2009 11:40 PM

I used to love the Melanie Travis and Jessie Arnolds mysteries, but I've not read them in so long... I've got them on my bookshelf, though, I might have to reread them sometime.
I never got very into mysteries beyond those two. They just don't appeal to me.

I do, however, loooove The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. That's my favorite book of the mystery genre, not that it has much competition.

Tomorrow though, I'm going to the thrift store and looking for books. I love thrift stores/goodwills for books -- you can always find something good there and for 25 or 50 cents a book, you just can't go wrong. =)

I love the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell, when I finish Brightly Burning (which is the last book about Valdemar that I have) that's the series I intend to read next. Unfortunately, I can't find my copy of Postmortem anyway and that's one of the books I'm hoping to find tomorrow.

The Valdemar series is one of my favorites. I like Take a Thief in particular.

Knerd 12-29-2009 02:24 AM

I've never been much of a fan of Mercedes Lackey, but then again I've only read one thing by her. Joust probably isn't the best representation of her writing. I just found it very repetitive and dumbed down. The idea behind the story was great, but she executed it as if her audience was completely stupid. :-/

Iltu 12-29-2009 03:01 AM

I've never read any Mercedes Lackey, but I really want to. I've heard good things.
Which one did you read, Knerd?

Knerd 12-29-2009 05:05 PM

I read Joust.
It's about a young boy who wants to become a dragon rider. It followed your basic heroic cycle - Poor boy is rescued from his abusive lifestyle by a knight who then trains him and gives him the skills to succeed.

Sir.Spoon 12-29-2009 05:29 PM

*pops in*

I finished the novel Push by Sapphire on Xmas day ... so good. Can't wait to see the movie.
And right now I am sprinting through Any Known Blood by Lawrence Hill ( the author of The Book of Negroes ) ... it looks like it will be an amazing book.

Iltu 12-29-2009 05:43 PM

Knerd- The one I have checked out is called Arrows of the Queen, I hope it ends up being better than Joust.

sayuri_nitta 12-29-2009 11:58 PM

No books for Christmas (though I do want the new Terry Pratchett one and will get it soon I am sure)..I don't actually remember buying any this year but then haven't exactly been flush with money lately =P

I have been re-reading the books I own though, currently going through 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova again.

Knerd 12-30-2009 01:23 AM

I might pick up another Mercedes Lackey book in the future, if I happen to find one second hand. We shall see.

The Historian is a great book. I read that back in high school, I think. A bunch of us voted to read it for our Book Club, but there were only a handful of us who actually made it through the novel within the month.

Ace Strife 12-30-2009 03:25 AM

Does anyone here read Alex Rider Series, I dont think I have ever met anyone who knew what I was talking about when I mentioned those books, there are 8books out soo far. and 1 movie of the first book Storm Rider,

I got the 8th book for christmas "Crocodile tears" Still not had a chance to read it but I wil soon

Intergalactic Bunny 12-30-2009 03:40 AM

I received the "Wicked" series for Christmas, so far it's super great, I'd definitely recommend it ! ^^
It's about a young girl named Holly and her two twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole, who discover they're witches and are trying to win the ancient fight between the Cahors' (Holly/Isabeau, Nicole, and Amanda's clan) and Deveraux (the clan of Michael, Eli, and many others who are "evil", but Holly's true love Jer/Jean is part of them too).
