I had heard that there were 45 mile an hour winds here in Austin earlier.
I did not even know it!

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 03:21 AM

Being sick, I stayed inside and under blankets alll day

:: offers yuen some of my hot korean pear juice with honey::

I want to make a quilt with blue gingham and white eyelet lace, and I'm debating between a lavender floral print or a light purple gingham (or should I use a light yellow instead of purple?), bordered with a green strip (either that or a white lace), then a wide white border.
A queen-size comforter would be about 86"x86"... and each block of fabric sold at work is 18"x21"...

The only part I hate about any crafting is the math.

I hate math.

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 03:33 AM

o0o0o0o pear juice with honeyyy. i like how your O turned into a smiley face XD

i hate math too.
Sometimes they have those programs that make those patterns up for you.

Connielass 12-31-2009 03:51 AM

Korean pear! They're much crunchier and juicier than American pears. Bigger, too! Bigger than American apples.
....

::runs off to the kitchen::

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 03:57 AM

i've never had a Korean pear!!!
I'm intrigued.
I'm not going to have some hot water with honey.
ugh i feel like poop

Connielass 12-31-2009 04:28 AM

Yeh.
I don't know, I don't much care for American pears, but I imagine they'll do the same thing as far as sore throat and coughs go.
I cut up the pears, throw them in the blender till it's mostly juice, then toss that in a pot, pour some honey in, and let it simmer over medium heat. If it's too thick, I pour some water in and let it simmer some more while stirring.

The bad part of it is that, because it's made from raw fruit, even if it's cooked, it'll only keep a couple days before spoiling, and it will lose its effectiveness if you freeze it before drinking again.

But damned if it doesn't do the trick.

Edit: And I finally figured out that I'm going to need 144 squares of six inches each. When each piece of cloth is 18"x21", that's only six squares a piece. I'm going to need eight squares of each color.

Wow this is adding up in the wallet.

... I think for now I'll just stick to making my boyfriend's scarf.

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 05:05 AM

that's sounds realllllly tasty :)
I would loooooooove to try that!

ahhhh, there's so much I want to knit. It can be rough on the wallet though =X

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 05:17 AM

Oh, it sounds delicious!

Connielass 12-31-2009 05:19 AM

Okay, 81 squares of 8" each.
Screw work. I'll have to go to the enemy to get the cloth cheaper.
The only thing I've been decided on is that I want blue gingham and white eyelet lace.
Everything else is still up in the air, whenever I decide to (and can afford to) get around to doing my first quilt.

In the meantime, I need bed.
Night all!
::tucks Yuen up all cozy in a fleece comforter::

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 05:48 AM

Goodnight, Connie.

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 03:49 PM

^_^::hugs connie::

Connielass 12-31-2009 06:22 PM

I am returned!!
::weilds homespun and needles::
...
I still need to look up possible patterns for a man's scarf.

::wanders off to LB website::

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 06:40 PM

Hello everybody!

Connielass 12-31-2009 06:57 PM

Damnit, I WANT to start QUILTING.

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 07:27 PM

If you have the materials, why haven't you started yet?
`laughs`

Connielass 12-31-2009 07:30 PM

That's just it: I don't have the materials. I don't have anything necessary to quilting except my mother's sewing machines.

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 08:00 PM

Ah, I see.
I have found that JoAnn's fabrics or Hobby Lobby are good places.

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 08:02 PM

are materials for quilting expensive? Like are there any extra thing you need? [i have no clue what you would do for quilting =P]

GrannyJ 12-31-2009 08:20 PM

Material is just very expensive these days.
That is why I quit making my own clothing.

YuenGuon 12-31-2009 08:26 PM

Ahh, okay. I'm lucky not to have that problem. I have so much fabric in my house it's ridiculous! And I have relatives who also have fabric they don't use. I haven't even gone through any of it!! I think I would be tempted to make something right now if my body wasn't so sore. Maybe I'll think of something I want to make sometime soon :)

Dream_and_Die 12-31-2009 08:33 PM

Yuen put some pants on. Really.

XD

Connielass 12-31-2009 08:41 PM

Yeah, apparently Hobby Lobby is a midwestern thing? We don't have any here on the east coast. We have Michaels Crafts and A.C. Moore and Joanne's. Which.. Joanne's is a fair distance from me, I think something like 45 minutes drive?
Not to mention I just don't have the money right now to start up a quilt.
::goes back to knitting boyfriend's scarf::

xelao 12-31-2009 08:43 PM

Hello! :0
Is this for crafting things like scarves, blankets, etc?

Or other kinds of 'crafts' too? xD

Dream_and_Die 12-31-2009 08:51 PM

@xelao: Any thing you think is crafty.

You know I do not know a single person who lives within 45 minutes of a Joanne's... maybe there's only one and it's in another dimension that takes 45 minutes of space jumping to get to... @[email protected]
