I've always been wondering, what's slash? :?

Connielass 12-29-2009 03:50 AM

In the case that I'm talking about, it's basically male on male action.

Or at least, from what I can gather, that's what it seems to be.
I'm not really so much into it. The image of two guys is a turn-off to me (Note: I DO support lbgt rights)

I get the feeling, though, that there may be other meanings for slash.
That's just the one I know of.

I started to watch Children of Earth: Day One yesterday, and it was alright. Not spectacular, yet not as suckish as I thought a sci-fi without the Doctor would be (I'm BIASED, okay??? very BIASED, I'll admit! I love the Doc! heehee)

Toccata 12-29-2009 02:08 PM

Hello thread!!

Lost in Austen 12-29-2009 02:43 PM

hello, Toccata! do you like Doctor Who? ^_^

Asterisks 12-29-2009 05:35 PM

Awesome a Doctor Who thread! These things are so hard to find.

I've got a link to probably the ONLY Doctor Who RP on Menewsha in my sig if you're interested.

Chalkboard 12-29-2009 09:13 PM

*leaves a cookie for the Doctor* Finally, a Doctor Who thread! I agree with Asterisks.

TaiyoTsuki 12-29-2009 09:26 PM

Blooperfest!
Series 2: YouTube - Doctor Who - Series 2 Outtakes
Series 3: YouTube - Doctor Who: series 3 outtakes

Couldn't find any more, sadly. Still funny!

KatMagenta 12-29-2009 09:31 PM

Yay, out-takes. I'll just find my headphones...

RTD and David Tennant were on Radio 2 this afternoon but all I caught was RTD talking about moving to America and the song from Daleks of Manhattan.

Lost in Austen 12-30-2009 05:18 AM

Asterisks! I love, love, love, freaking LOVE your signature! Thats a really good picture of the Tardis, and the quote is so great. *is happy* ^_^

ljosberinn 12-30-2009 05:40 PM

Ahhhh finally! The internet at home has been blocked for the last few days for stupid reasons and I haven't been able to get on Menewsha at all! :( I'm at my friends' now, ninja-ing their internets.

Hello to new people, and thanks for the cookie! *noms* >:3

Torchwood is pretty hot. And while I can't stand Gwen most of the time, all the other characters are awesome. Have you guys ever noticed how it's so common that the main character is fucking annoying, while the extras and other characters are so much more interesting?

Silverwingedshadows 12-30-2009 05:41 PM

That is a good show! I <3 the Doctor! Hi everyone! And no one is here.

ljosberinn 12-30-2009 05:46 PM

I'm here, hello shadows! :) Have you watched the Christmas special yet?

If you've seen through Children of Earth:

SPOILERX

Are you pissed that Gwen is the only mortal member of the team that survived? I know I am x.x

Part of the problem with Gwen is that, on one hand she acts like she cares a lot about other people, but in reality she barely ever even listens to them or ever does much of anything nice for them. It's like she cares for other people to make herself feel good :<

I also hold a grudge against her for only marrying Reese because "he's the only one that will have me" - pretty bad reason to commit to someone x.x

As for annoying characters in general - yes - they are the main character in the tv show more often than not.

ljosberinn 12-30-2009 06:14 PM

Children of EarthX

YEEEEEES. Damn, that was annoying. They've announced they're doing more Torchwood though, I don't really see what they're going to do with it though.. if it's going to be completely new characters, maybe another Torchwood base somewhere else, or if they'll have Jack come back and Gwen join him when she's had the baby? (I hope not, haha.)

You're right, that is exactly how she acts. She's so convinced that she's better than everyone else because she's so nice and caring or whatever, when she's really more self centered than anything else. And I agree, that is a terrible reason to marry someone. But she seems to love him. I guess it just means a much more secure and stable relationship than if she'd gone for Jack, who is so much more unpredictable and, uh, unreliable, especially when it comes to relationships.

TV shows, films, books.. stories in general it seems. Though it is definitely not the case with Doctor Who. : D Although Doctor Who has a whole lot of really, really awesome extra characters. Who are usually the ones that wind up dead by the end of the episode. :C

magikjaz 12-30-2009 08:05 PM

squee I didn't know there was a Doctor Who hangout thread!!!! I  Doctor Who!!!!

Shimawa_zen 12-30-2009 09:07 PM

magikjaz - Welcome! How much of the series have you seen? (We are also chatting a bit about Torchwood if you've seen it)

ljosberinn - I'm not so sure that Gwen loves him as she is afraid that he is the only chance at a steady relationship that she has. After all, it kind of felt like the only reason she said "yes" was because Jack ran away for awhile. Then after Jack returns, she was kind of rubbing it in his face a bit.

SPOILERX

I'm not so sure that I like the idea of another Torchwood season after Children of Earth. Jack + Gwen + team of new people = something that doesn't really get me excited. I'd prefer that they just switch to a new spin-off series about Jack exploring the galaxy or something.

ljosberinn 12-30-2009 09:15 PM

It was a bit spur of the moment and didn't seem very well thought through, but she must love him. At least she did before she joined Torchwood and she still seems to, it's just that she loves Jack as well. To me she's always looked as though she's desperately seeking out just someone to love who will like her back because she so desperately wants to be liked.

Moar spoilersX

Yeah, same here. I'd prefer if it was a whole new Torchwood base - after all, there are at least two Torchwood bases that could technically still be going, we've had references to them throughout Doctor Who and Torchwood, but nothing more. So either a different Torchwood base (preferably with Jack though!) or Jack assembling a new crew to do stuff. Without Gwen thankyouverymuch. :P
Isn't Jack supposed to be in the next DW special though? I thought he'd been credited as appearing in the double special.. so maybe after that we'll get a clue to what he'll be doing.

Saiyana2 12-30-2009 10:16 PM

I think Gwen only got married to Reese because she sensed that Jack wasn't the commitment type.

KatMagenta 12-30-2009 10:43 PM

Second series and beyond Gwen > First series Gwen

I believe in Gwen and Rhys but how much of that is the irrational part of my mind just screaming I WANT TO BELIEVE! is up for argument.

magikjaz 12-30-2009 10:48 PM

Shimawa_zen thanks for the welcome  I'm caught up to the first part of End of Time - which makes me sad that Tennant is leaving so I'm savouring them as much as I can -altho I really really loved Eccleston as the doctor and it took me awhile to warm to Tennant in his beginning. And I'm a huge Torchwood fangirl as well. I  me some Captain Jack yum!!!

edit: how to you do the spoiler thingy? I feel like such a newbie

TaiyoTsuki 12-30-2009 10:52 PM

I haven't seen Children of Earth yet.

@ magikjaz: I've got a Doctor Who RP starting up. There's a link to it in my sig if you're interested.

Lost in Austen 12-30-2009 10:54 PM

I just saw Children of Earth at the bookstore yesterday.... thinking of getting it!!!

Yup.. turns out Barnes & Noble has an entire shelf full of British DVDs. I like. :)

TaiyoTsuki 12-30-2009 10:59 PM

The only bookstore that had DVDs in my town is a used bookstore, and they don't really have anything other than sappy romances, horror movies, and westerns. No british sci-fi whatsoever.
Makes me sad! :(
