Amadis nodded, before continuing to undress and climb into the shower, pulling the curtain shut.
|
Kellan hastily turned around when it became evident that Amadis did not plan to shut the bathroom door before completely disrobing. The scars were only a bit distracting, especially when compared to his--
Kellan smacked himself in the forehead repeatedly and forcibly pulled up the memories of bathing his ailing grandmother last year. That helped cool his heated blood in a hurry. What right did he, a servant, have to think of his new master in such a way?! With that righteous thought echoing in his mind, he hurried downstairs to see if any of Amadis's things had been delivered yet. |
Ten or fifteen minutes later, Amadis stepped out of the shower and dried himself off, pulling on the beat up clothing he'd brought with him. Hair still very damp, Amadis stepped out of the bathroom and into his room, eyes scanning over his surroundings again in an attempt to adjust to the drastic change in his life.
|
Kellan was bringing in the last of the delivered shipment of clothing just as Amadis had stepped back out into the bedroom. Water beading on the tips of pointed ears caught his gaze, and he could not help but watch in awe as a slight twitch of said ears sent the droplets flying. His first attempt at a greeting came out a bit strangled, but he gamely cleared his throat and tried again.
"Your new clothes have been delivered," he said with a smile, gesturing to the multiple packages on the bed. "I wasn't sure what you'd want to wear, but once you choose I can put everything away for you." He paused, not wanting to cross any lines of propriety, but feeling the need to speak up nonetheless. "I know this must be difficult for you, sir. All these changes, I mean. If there is anything I can do to make this new place more home for you, please let me know. If it's in my power, I'll do it." His earnest gaze echoed the sincere words. |
"Thank you..." Amadis said, ears twitching backward. "About what you said earlier... About things that I like? I don't really have any... I've never had the chance to learn what things I like. I'm sorry if that causes any trouble for you... I don't want to be a bother. I've never really been treated this well before. It feels like I'm on the verge of opening my eyes and this will all be gone and I'll be back on the basement floor where I came from..."
|
"This is no dream. And no, your not being picky does not cause any difficulty for me," Kellan replied with a ironic half-smile. "I have to say, I was terribly nervous about serving you, as I've never done anything like this before. Maybe we can learn to adapt together."
|
A bit of time had passed, allowing Amadis to grow a little more adjusted to his new surroundings. Tonight he was pulling on his gear to go out and eliminate the soldiers in a local mafia that Nick had infiltrated over the last several weeks.
|
"Here, I'll get those," Kellan said as he stepped into the room to see Amadis struggling to buckle his arm-guards on one-handed. "Tonight's the big one, right? Is there anything you need before you leave?"
|
"Yeah... I guess it is," Amadis replied with a weak smile. "There's a lot of them..." He took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled, a calm look overtaking his features. The young assassin had a strange way of completely relaxing before going out to kill.
"Could you please put in the earpiece? I still have trouble putting it in right..." |
"Of course," Kellan replied, picking up the earpiece from the table. "I'm sure I'm happier not knowing how many there will be tonight," he joked halfheartedly. He resisted the urge to run a finger up to the delicate tip of Amadis's ear, and efficiently inserted the earpiece that could, in a worst-case scenario, be a lifeline. He hoped with all he had that it wouldn't be needed.

The exchange between Amadis and Kellan only lasted a few more minutes before Amadis was summoned downstairs by Nick - it was time to leave.
Nick and the assassin spent most of the night out, though at some point nearing the end of it a few staff members seemed rather upset, scurrying about the large entryway impatiently. Not long after the unnerved hustle and bustle had begun, the front door swung open, loud, extremely pained screams echoing through the mansion. Nick carried Amadis from behind and under his arms, his large bodyguard William carrying Amadis' feet. The youth thrashed about in their grip in pain. He had multiple wounds, the most gruesome and startling of which was a steel pole that stuck out of his body - starting on the right side of his back and diagonally running through his body, the other end sticking out of his left front side. A large knife also stuck out of his thigh, and he appeared to have several bullet wounds. Several rarely-seen members of the staff ran out to meet the trio, one holding a facemask connected to a gas cannister. Pressing it over Amadis' nose and mouth, he turned the valve, causing Amadis' cries to slowly quiet down and his thrashing to come to an end. Carefully, they took Amadis from Nick and William and rushed him off to one of the basements where a room was set up for them to conduct medical care on non-human beings such as Amadis, Nick, and themselves. Nick took a moment to catch his breath before following after them, William hurrying after Nick - though he as more concerned for the master of the house than he was for the young assassin. "Master Nick," William began, reaching out to touch Nick's right shoulder, "please sit down... You've lost a lot of blood yourself..." "Not now William," Nick growled in reply, shrugging off the bodyguard's hand. "Please, no one wants you to be hurt..." William tried again. At this point, Nick was very agitated and rounded on William, a look of nearly murderous rage upon his face. "UNTIL I'VE BEEN SHOT, STABBED, BEATEN, AND RUN THROUGH WITH A FUCKING POLE, I AM NOT THE TOP PRIORITY HERE!" Nick shouted, the angry sound echoing through the house. "I'm not going anywhere until I know he's alright." "What if he dies...?" William asked with a frown. "Then I'll sit here like a stubborn child until the life is sucked right out of my lungs," Nick replied darkly. "Master Nick, please..." William reached out to touch his shoulder again. "DON'T TOUCH ME!" Nick snapped. |
Kellan spent the first part of the evening tidying Amadis's quarters, and when he found himself dusting the same lamp for the third time, he forced himself to stop, and retreat to the sitting room, where he settled in with a book at the window.
In the space of three hours, Kellan had only managed to read a few pages, as he kept finding himself staring out the window into the distance, glaring at the horizon as if the dark sedan would appear by pure force of will alone. What was Amadis facing out there? In the past few weeks, Kellan had come to trust his master's abilities, as he had yet to come home with anything other than the most minor of injuries, that even Kellan was able to patch up. Tonight was different, though. Tonight he and Nick were facing a larger number of criminals. He didn't know the exact number, but the fact that it was enough to give Amadis even a bit of worry was enough to make Kellan anxious for his safe return. He'd grown closer to his charge than he had ever expect he would, and only in a few weeks. It had quickly become apparent when they first met that Amadis had been treated badly in the past; the sort of treatment that left as many scars on the mind and heart as it did the body. Kellan had decided that he needed a friend as much as, if not more than, a servant, and had cautiously began to try to fill that role himself. He had found that Amadis's smile, though rare and hard-won, was well worth the effort. Kellan was about to give up on his book when he saw headlights approaching and heard the resulting commotion downstairs. He took a moment to take a deep breath and remind himself that Amadis was fine and he was worried for nothing, and he should not concern his master with an overly-relieved greeting upon his return. With those reassuring thoughts in mind, he rushed downstairs just in time to hear the most heart-rending noise he hoped he would never have to hear again -- Amadis's pained screams. For a moment he could only stare in horror as his master was carried in, screaming and bloodied and impaled. He was frozen to the spot halfway down the stairs, Amadis's screams echoing in his mind even as they were cut off by a gas-induced unconsciousness. He took several steadying breaths before he hurried down into the basement, somewhere he rarely went. The sound of Amadis screaming still echoed in his head. For someone normally so quiet and reserved, he could not imagine the pain he must be in to scream like that. Hesitantly he approached Nick, who was waiting outside the room he assumed they had taken Amadis into. "What can I do to help, sir?" he asked Nick, though what he really wanted to do was to run into the room and see for himself how Amadis was faring. |
Nick's gaze slowly lifted to meet Kellan's, "Hope," he said weakly.
"Master, you're bleeding again!" William exclaimed, pulling off his suit jacket and wrapping it around Nick's right side, applying pressure to the wounds in his shoulder. Nick sighed and hung his head a bit. "Right now I don't really care... Even if I bleed to death, I'll be in a lot less pain than Amadis is in." "Oh stop it!" William said, gently smacking Nick over the back of his head. "You need to be looked at, too." "I'm not going to be looked at until I see Amadis in better condition than he was coming home." |
"Amadis wouldn't want you hurting, sir," Kellan felt compelled to point out. "He'll feel terrible if he found out you refused care for his sake. Besides, how will you bleeding help him at all?" For a moment he wondered where his courage to speak up so came from, but decided later he could chalk it up to his shock at the situation. "If I go get some first aid supplies just to help stop the bleeding, you won't even have to leave the door. And I promise, I'll be 'hoping' with all I have the whole time," he offered with a weak smile and a longing glance at the nearby door. "Amadis is tough. Tougher than any of us know, I think. He'll be fine," he said firmly, more to confirm his beliefs to himself than to reassure anyone else.
|
"Amadis is tough, yes," Nick began with a somewhat said tone, "but he is also sickly compared to others of his kind at that age. He's small, malnourished, and is failing to thrive the way he should."
Nick sighed and reached up to his shoulder, slipping his hand under William's jacket and touching at his wounds, pulling his hand back and looking at the glistening blood that stuck to his fingers. "It is getting worse, isn't it...?" he asked quietly. |
Kellan slipped away to retrieve a first aid kit, which he handed to William, knowing he had a better chance of convincing Nick to accept care than he did.
"Has there been any word yet?" he asked, clasping his hands together in an effort to still his nervous movements. |
"You were gone for only a moment, of course there's no word yet," Nick replied coolly, wincing as William began caring for his wounds.
Several hours passed, and finally the door opened, one of the doctors coming out to speak with Nick. "We stopped as much bleeding as we could," he said with a heavy sigh, pulling the face mask down to reveal two sharp upper teeth. His ears were long and pointed like Amadis', though they were wider and didn't appear as elegant. "What bleeding remains is minor and poses little threat to him other than anemia, but he'll be on an IV for a while, so we can ensure that he doesn't become anemic." Nick nodded slowly, a worried and upset look on his face, though he also appeared to be entirely calm. "What do you think, though?" "I think we're sitting in a dangerous place here. You've brought him to live with us and we don't have the supplies we need should this happen again. There wasn't much blood left, and we used what was left on him. It'll be enough to keep him alive and start the healing process, but had we had an ample supply, we could spare him a lot of suffering." The doctor put his hands into his pockets, watching Nick closely. "I've been searching all over for one to trade with. I'm starting to think that there's even less of his kind than we thought," Nick said with a groan, reaching up and rubbing the skin above his eyebrows. "You're only a hybrid, of course the pures won't want to trade with you," the being replied, though his words weren't as harsh as would be expected. "I think I've found evidence of a colony in Ireland. I'll be flying out to look into it once the boy is well enough that he shouldn't need my care for a while." "Understood," Nick said with a nod. "Now, I think it's best that we care for your injuries, as well. Come on, let's get you taken care of," reaching out, the doctor patted Nick on his uninjured shoulder, urging him to get up. Nick stood and went with him as the other doctor pushed Amadis out of the room in a hospital-style bed. Amadis was unconscious, a pained expression on his sleeping face. A blanket was pulled up over his bandages, and a pole on the corner of the bed supported a large bag full of fluids. The doctor pushing Amadis looked up at Kellan with a weak smile. "Kellan, could you please help me get him to his room? I'll need to move a bit of his furniture to allow room for this bed." |
"Of course, Doctor," Kellan replied quickly. He helped guide the bed up to the bedroom, pushing the table to the side and turning the bed against the wall to make room for the hospital bed. He made sure there was room to maneuver around the bed before turning back to the doctor. "Is there anything else I can do to help him, sir?"
|
"When his IV bag is almost completely empty, cut it off," he said, showing Kellan the little clamp that was on the IV tube, "then pull the tube from the bag, insert it into a full one, then unclamp it. It's very important that he continues getting fluids."
He made sure Amadis was covered well by the blanket, then stepped towards the door. "I'll have more IV bags brought up, you might want to make it warmer in here - he needs warmth to recover faster. If anything happens or he wakes up, call for me. If he does wake up, do your best to keep him calm. The last thing he was doing before we knocked him out was flailing and screaming. There's a good chance he might resume that behavior upon waking until he realizes the pole isn't through him anymore. You need to keep him calm or all of the stitches in his organs could rupture, and we just don't have what we need to save him if that happens." |
*floats in* Cri~icket, I want gold! :P And so do you. You said you'd talk to me~
|
Yes yes yes. -Nibbles- I shall chat at you.
I'm thinking maybe I want to take back what I said earlier and just start the roleplay here. We can copy and paste posts to our hiding place later if we need to. |
Sounds like a plan! With as long (or short depending on how you look at it) as there is left of the event, we won't manage to get far enough that we'd have to take it there for the....:vicky:

XXD
Damn, I'm bad at replying to you on time today. I'm sorry. D: Youtube, the music calls my soul. And food, it calls my stomach (but I haven't answered the phone yet due to laziness - big mistake, blood sugar is dropping now), and that first roleplay post is utterly kicking my ass. |
Go eat. Then we can RP on full bellies.
But we can keep going "yay music" at each other all day. :P |
Oh, I'm eating baby carrots right now. Of course, I'll have to take a benadryl here in a few minutes so I don't have an allergic reaction. But carrots are so good, even my cat likes them!
