Normally I'd say carrots are good for you, but... :/ If you have a serious reaction and leave me, I will be sad!

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 02:31 PM

Ah, I never have serious reactions to the baby carrots. My throat only starts to swell if I eat the big ones. And don't worry, I already took the benadry. The burning and itching in my mouth has already stopped.

Sensible Cricket 01-01-2010 02:34 PM

Yay for carroty goodness, then? This reminds me of that crossover RP I was telling you about--somebody's playing Elliot from Heart no Kuni no Alice. xD If...you don't get the lols, explaining will kill.

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 02:40 PM

Sorry, I don't understand the humor. I've never even heard of that series before. ^^;; But by the name of it, it sounds like something similar to Alice in Wonderland.

Sensible Cricket 01-01-2010 03:31 PM

It is. It's a manga re-interpretation of it. Elliot is the March Hare and....according to him he's not a Rabbit and he proves this with the fact that he doesn't like carrots. But he loves things that are carrot FLAVOURED...and....yeah, can't explain. >_< Ah well. :P

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 03:50 PM

Ahaha, that sounds freaking awesome. <3

By the way, here's my first post. Sorry if it's sucktacular.

Dirty blond hair shook just slightly as the head it belongs to bobbed fluid-like with the tune of the song he was singing. Feet tapped, hips swayed, eyes opened and closed as eyelids slowly blinked, fighting off the exhaustion Jada felt.

Tonight the club wasn't as busy as it usually was, though it was far from empty. The young man very much appreciated the slower nights because it meant he'd be allowed to take it a bit easier than usual - and tonight, he most certainly needed it.

After one more song, the blond left the stage and headed for the bar, struggling to keep gray-green eyes open with every step.

"Jen, I just can't do much more tonight," he told the middle-aged woman who was behind the bar tonight. Flopping down in a chair behind the bar counter where customers weren't allowed, he let out a very tired sigh and closed his eyes.

"Why are you so tired?" Jen asked, arching a brow as she cleaned a glass and put it away.

"Hungry and I couldn't sleep all day. I don't know why, either. Just couldn't," Jada replied.

"Suckage," Jen said, twisting her lips in a manner that showed both sympathy and thoughtfulness.

Sensible Cricket 01-01-2010 04:07 PM

It wasn't bad for a first night. Everything had so far been quiet, it looked like his idea had been right. Plenty of standing around, plenty of time to think, and not a whole lot to do. He headed up to the bar and smiled cheerily, wondering if he got drinks on the house for working or if he'd have to pay. He was fine either way.

Not that he'd drink alcohol while he was on the clock. No, he wanted a bottle of fruit juice to wet the back of his throat while he did what he did most of the time anyway--stood around and thought. The nature of the universe was a broad and unusual thing, and he could while away the hours pondering its ins and outs.

It seemed he wasn't the only staff hanging around this end of the bar, though--there was the singer, what was his name? Vampire, he could remember, but Mark couldn't come up with his name off hand. It was a stupid nickname to give someone, but he supposed he could understand it if he was a goth in his off hours.

God only knew how the people that inhabited clubs dressed on their own time--if there wasn't a required 'uniform' there was still something to be said for not sticking out like a sore thumb. In his usual clothes, he knew people would stare at him here.

But now it begged the question, did he engage the man in conversation? Or did he leave him alone to rest between sets...that sounded like a better idea, really. If their roles were reversed, Mark could imagine wanting to rest his voice and rest in general when he didn't have to be singing. But he could spare the man a smile, and he gave him a very warm and genuine one at that.

Not...like he had become a philosopher to deal with repressed issues about his sexuality. Not like he was flirting with the young man. Oh no, he chided himself. He wasn't opening -that- can of worms. But a friend would be nice. It was always good to befriend one's colleagues, right?

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 08:46 PM

"Nothing alcoholic, you're on the clock," Jen said to Mark when she saw him sit down. Tossing a dishrag at the tired blond sitting down, she muttered, "C'mon Jada, get back to work. If you're so tired, why did you come in today?"

"Because I'm going to miss a couple days next week," Jada groaned, reluctantly pulling himself out of his comfortable chair. He stepped up to the counter, blinking tiredly at Mark. "What would you like?" he asked.

"Why are you going to miss work next week?" Jen took a few bottles of liquor from a place under the counter and put them on the large shelves filled with bottles that displayed what spirits the club provided.

"Medical testing," Jada sighed.

"Again? Geeze. You don't catch a break, do you?" Jen asked, shaking her head.

Kika988 01-01-2010 09:12 PM

Kellan nodded to all of the doctor's instructions, and thanked him before closing the door behind him and turning to his injured charge. Even unconscious, his face was tensed in pain. Recalling what the doctor had said about the temperature, Kellan went to the thermostat. Amadis normally liked it fairly warm in the room anyway, but he cranked the temperature up quite a bit from that anyway. He also found an extra blanket and draped it over Amadis, smoothing it around him restlessly. Finally, after deciding there was not much else he could do at this point, he pulled up a chair to Amadis's bedside, and settled in for a long wait.

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 09:26 PM

Nearly twelve hours had passed, and Nick had come and gone several times to sit with Amadis for periods of time. He himself had been cleaned up and cared for, his right arm now in a sling to lessen the pain in his shoulder.

Amadis began stirring, letting out quiet sounds of severe discomfort and writhing slowly as he came to. Blue eyes flickered open only to close tightly, his ears pulling downward in his expression of pain.

Sensible Cricket 01-01-2010 11:33 PM

He laughed softly when he was reminded about not drinking, and he shook his head. "I don't usually drink -off- the clock, what makes you think I'd start now?" He smiled cheerily, teasing a little bit. He was a good natured person, it showed in the ease of his smile and the gentleness of his tone.

"No, I came for a bottle of orange juice, or apple juice if you've got it." Orange juice was a common mixer, but he wasn't sure if there would be apple juice behind the bar. He listened in to the conversation going on around him, but he didn't really contribute to it--although it wasn't in hushed tones, it did seem to be -somewhat- personal.

He couldn't help but flick his eyes over the other man, though. He didn't look like there was anything particularly wrong with him, but...that didn't necessarily mean much in the modern world of hidden illnesses. Wasn't it every other day some shock and horror disease was being discovered? Some hidden thing that could kill near instantly with next to no symptoms unless it was 'detected'.

It all sounded like a big hoax, really.

He laughed at himself, dropping his head a bit and shaking his head at his foolishness. Was he really stooping so far that he needed to dabble in conspiracy theories to have some puzzle to twist his brain around? No, more like he was simply in too good of a mood to want to twist with the truly great and powerful philosophical questions. Everything was still new to him and he was still having fun with learning the ropes at his new job.

He smiled at the young man again, since he'd been staring a little bit, then turned his eyes back to the woman behind the bar, grinning a bit wider for her. "Or am I stuck with bottled water?"

Insane Cricket 01-01-2010 11:43 PM

"Hm?" Jen looked over at Mark and blinked a few times, then shrugged, going back to what she was doing.

"We have apple juice," Jada said, bending down to grab a bottle out of one of several miniature refrigerators that were under the counter. Standing back up, he put the bottle on the counter in front of Mark. "Here ya go. Do you need anything else during your break? I can grab something from the kitchen if you want."

Sensible Cricket 01-01-2010 11:54 PM

Ahh, still just learning his way around who to ask for what and he'd already gotten it wrong it seemed, when that man whose name he still couldn't remember was the one to get the juice for him. He took the bottle and opened it, taking a long drink before he grinned at the other man. "Nah, a full belly on my shift'll only make me tired."

He didn't want to be a bother, and he certainly didn't want to impose. "You could tell me your name, though. I don't remember if somebody told me, but I don't remember it either way."

Insane Cricket 01-02-2010 12:04 AM

"Mm?" Jada tilted his head tiredly to the side. "Oh, my name's Jada. Are you sure I can't get you anything else?"

Sensible Cricket 01-02-2010 12:10 AM

"Jada, it's nice to meet you properly. I'm Mark, if rumours haven't told all about the new guy yet." He continued to smile for the other man--he was a smiley person in general, and saw no reason not to continue to be good natured.

"If you're sure it's not a pain, yeah a snack'd be nice. But not if it's any fuss. What's this I hear about you and doctors?" He didn't want to sound like he was being nosy, but the conversation -had- taken place right in front of him.

Insane Cricket 01-02-2010 12:12 AM

"Hm? Oh, I guess you could say that I'm a subject of medical research. The main problem with that is I miss chunks of work and the testing doesn't pay very well," Jada said with a shrug, pulling out a small notepad. "What is it you want to eat?"

Sensible Cricket 01-02-2010 12:18 AM

"Oh, one of those drug testing dealies?" It was a logical guess as far as he was concerned, and he thought it would start further conversation if he could talk to him about it. "I heard the pay's crap for what they put you through. Looked like a good idea at the time, huh?"

He nodded along, fully believing himself to be correct. "Eh, whatever's handy? A cheese sandwich or something, I'm not picky. Break's only so long, y'know? And I don't know what's in there." He wasn't fussy about meals or food, and would probably think that -whatever- Jada brought was a nice thing, as long as he didn't find himself the butt of a workplace prank.

Kika988 01-02-2010 12:48 AM

Kellan woke to find himself clutching Amadis's hand, as if he would float away if not anchored to the here and now. He realized that the small noises he was hearing was actually coming from the injured man.

"Amadis," Kellan said softly, not wanting to startle him. Seeing his pained expression and those expressive ears pulled down in pain unsettled him more than he'd like to admit. "Amadis, you've been hurt, but you're alright now. Let me call the doctor for you," he said, standing and releasing Amadis's hand as he did so.

Insane Cricket 01-02-2010 01:13 AM

"Eh, something like that, yeah," Jada replied with a weak smile that somewhat resembled a grimace. "I'll go see what I can't dig up for you." Jada turned and headed down the dark hallway that only employees were allowed down, going into the kitchen.

While he was away, one of the waitresses with dark hair and several small visible tattoos snuck into the bar and climbed up on top of a chair. Seeing mark, she giggled softly and made a 'shhh' motion with her finger to her lips.

After a few minutes, Jada returned to the bar holding a plate with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich on it. The moment he placed it in front of Mark, the girl standing on the chair jumped on Jada's back, causing his knees to buckle and give out, sending him crashing down on the floor on his knees.

With a wince and an annoyed grumble, Jada grabbed the counter and pulled himself back up, Betsy still on his back.

"Uhh... Jada?" Jen asked, turning to look at him with an amused grin. "You have a girl on your back."

"I'm aware of this. But if I ignore her she'll get bored faster," Jada replied, a very grumpy look on his face.

"Aww, c'mon Jayjay, take off those ears. You've been wearing them all niiigghhhtttt," Betsy whined, resting her cheek against the base of his neck.

"Will you get off me if I take them off?" Jada asked, turning his head and glancing at her out of the corners of his eyes.

"Only if you take out your teeth, too," Betsy said with a pout, nuzzling the back of his neck.

"Fine, now get off. I'm too tired to carry around your weight today."

For Kika:

"I know what happened to me," Amadis replied weakly, unable to apply much volume to his voice. "Is Master alive...? He came running in and I heard gunshots... I saw him go down..."

Ears pulling down more, until they couldn't rotate any farther, Amadis writhed again, crying out with the strong surge of pain he felt.

Sensible Cricket 01-02-2010 01:39 AM

When it was just a joke, Mark wasn't inclined to step in to call a halt to the waitress' fun. No sense in being a spoilsport, especially if it was as much of a long-running joke as it seemed. But when Jada went crashing down, Mark was on his feet immediately. Even if it was a prank gone bad with no malicious intent behind it, he still was quite worried about the young man that had gone down so heavily.

He reached out to pull her off, but Jada was already on his feet, so Mark pulled back his hand and frowned deeply. This was awkward...he didn't want to come across as overly fussy, but at the same time...

No, he was not feeling protective of a young man he'd just met. He was only concerned because it was the friendly thing to be. No undercurrents there, nothing growing because he thought Jada was attractive. None whatsoever.

The comment about his ears and teeth drew Mark's attention, though. He sat back down, picking up his sandwich and watching quietly as the scene before him played out. He did that a lot, he supposed, but he was only new here. He'd fit in soon enough, he was certain.

Kika988 01-02-2010 01:47 AM

"Don't move," Kellan scolded Amadis, wincing as he cried out in pain. "Nick is fine. He was shot a few times, but they were clean wounds and easily taken care of." Once he let someone look at it, he thought, but decided not to burden Amadis with that knowledge at the moment. "You need to stay calm and stay still, that is very important. They were able to patch you up, but if you rip out your stitches... well, that will cause problems," he said, hedging around the more serious truth. "You stay still here while I call a doctor for you," he said before moving to the phone and doing so.

Betsy hopped off of Jada, then hopped in front of him, reaching up to gently pick at his ears until a seam became visible and she was able to carefully pull them off. Two long, pointed ears being revealed with a painful crease in the middle of them. Betsy pouted and rubbed at the line in his flesh.

"You need to stop wearing them for so long... I know folding them back hurts you," she said with sincere worry for him. After a moment, she reached up and pressed her fingers to his bottom lip, applying enough force to make him open his mouth. Carefully, she reached inside and two soft 'pops' sounded as she removed the professionally made teeth he wore over his natural ones.

"You can leave your contacts and hands on if you want. They don't hurt you," she said quietly, reaching up to hug him around his neck. "Sorry about your knees. I'll leave you alone now. I'll put your things in your bag." Giving him a soft kiss on his cheek, Betsy then walked off towards the staff lounge, much calmer than she had been only moments before.

Jada watched her go and sighed, four sharp canine teeth just visible inside his slightly open mouth.

"You're getting better at dealing with her," Jen commented, watching Betsy leave. "Though I do want to remind you that she really does care about you.

Jada let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slouching a bit as he exhaled. "I know, but I just can't feel the same way about her. I was just a kid when I met her. That kind of affection feels like incest."

Jen stepped forward and patted him on the back. "I know, Sweetie. Don't worry about it too much."

For Kika:

"I can't help it!" Amadis whimpered, twisting again. "It hurts to move, but I can't hold still!" He let out another involuntary cry, his ears staying down as far as they could and his eyes tightly squeezing shut.

Sensible Cricket 01-02-2010 02:18 AM

Mark couldn't help but stare in awe and wonder at the strange scene that had just played out in front of him. He munched through his sandwich without even really tasting it, just watching Jada as the ears came into view, and then the false teeth came out of his mouth.

Just what was going on here? He didn't really speak up, stunned into silence by how -normal- this apparently and supposedly was.

Insane Cricket 01-02-2010 02:29 AM

"Hey, new guy," Jen said, nodding her head at him. "Close your mouth before a spider decides to make it home. I know someone must've told you what Jada is. If you didn't believe it, that's your own problem." Rolling her eyes, she headed down the dark hallway to the surveillance room to speak with the owner of the club.

Jada's ears twitched and he looked over at Mark. "If you're going to start freaking out, please don't. I don't go around attacking my coworkers. In actuality, blood-lust only occurs in the case of starvation."

Sensible Cricket 01-02-2010 02:33 AM

Mark dutifully closed his mouth, though rather than fear it was simple embarrassment that had him looking away and shaking his head. "Sorry," he mumbled. But when Jada at least seemed to get defensive about it, fussing about explaining that he wouldn't attack, Mark realised he needed to do more than mumble.

He took a deep breath, stepped forward, and stuck his hand out boldly. "No, it's cool. I just...feel like a dumbass, that's all. It's cool, all right?" They hadn't shaken hands when they'd first introduced themselves, and maybe it was a bit belated, but it was the best thing he could think of to show the other man that he wasn't going to make an issue of it.
