I went and poked through wikipedia,google, yahoo. This will need some more looking into. However, when I was in the Netherlands this was a very large part of their culture for these cookies.

When I was searching I found that there was many sub-names of Pfeffernusse that were Dutch, but it was telling that it was from Germany and it was a german word, because the Southern Germany pronounces it differently.

They do. They borrow alot from eachother. Their cultures are different though as they both have their own individual histories.

I have no clue, I kept getting German and Dutch. So I just went with the one that hadn't been guessed yet.
