Cool beans, Fairy. I bet that's going to be a fascinating read.

Saiyana2 12-30-2009 04:35 AM

I really don't think it is a proper children's book.

fairywaif 12-30-2009 04:36 AM

Honestly, I think parts of it might be a little over most kids heads. That could be just me though.

Cardinal Biggles 12-30-2009 04:36 AM

Well, I *certainly* think adults should read it, too. It has so much to offer.

No, it's not just you, Fairy. A lot was intended to be over kids heads. I think Carroll's choice of marketing it as a children's book was intentionally subversive.

Saiyana2 12-30-2009 04:48 AM

actually Carroll was more than subversive, he was a closet pedophile as well as a rogue mathimatician

Cardinal Biggles 12-30-2009 05:00 AM

Lol, well there's that too.

Iltu 12-30-2009 05:26 AM

*wanders back into the thread* I just finished a book that I rather liked, but rather disliked at the same time... I'm trying to figure out if I regret the time spent on it or not. It was a charming book, but I never really got a feel for any of the characters' personalities. When bad things happened to them, I didn't feel particularly compelled to feel sorry for them, when good things happened, I wasn't put in high spirits myself... I felt as though I could have put it down at any time without really worrying about what happened to them.

*settles down with Tales from Watership down to revisit some characters she knows she loves* <3

Cardinal Biggles 12-30-2009 05:30 AM

I see, and what book might that have been, Iltu?

Saiyana2 12-30-2009 05:33 AM

I really need to finish my King of Ys books

Iltu 12-30-2009 05:36 AM

Biggles- Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. I like books of that nature, animals going on epic and even magical adventures (The Sight, Firebringer, and Watership Down are favorites of mine), but this one just didn't do it for me.

Saiyana- What are those books about? I've not heard of them before.

Iltu, I'm sorry you didn't like it so much. Ah well, maybe a different recommendation another time.

Cardinal Biggles 12-30-2009 05:43 AM

That's strange... Iltu's answer didn't show up on my comp? Well, good thing Shadow quoted...

Oh, the original post has appeared now... so yeah, nvm.

Iltu 12-30-2009 05:43 AM

It started off really well, but it just went a little downhill for me. I do still intend to read that trilogy by Meredith Anne Peirce you told me about, though. I forget what they're called... with the unicorns, you know the ones I'm speaking of? Is the first one Birth of the Firebringer? And I think one is called Son of the Summer Stars... They're sitting up in my room right now, at any rate. :)

Yep. Hopefully you'll have more luck with that one. Using unicorns was such a neat idea.
