Oh, that'll be fun. ^_^ Can't wait to see it. |
:walks in reading:
Hello! |
Hey Dream! *waves* How's the reading going?
|
Alright people i gotta run for now, after i change my avi back into the elven queen
|
Reading is going good. I had a mini goal of finishing all printed books of this series before the end of the year, so I can start the new year with a new book. ^_^ I'm halfway through the last one!
|
@Kai: bye! *waves*
@Dream: That's cool. Good luck. ^_^ *browses around library* |
Thanks! :curls up to read:
|
Ooh, nice and quiet, huh? |3 Hopefully this place isn't anything like the library where I work...where that "quiet" is suddenly and frequently interrupted by screaming unsupervised children. We don't...we aren't expected to double as a free babysitting service here, right?
...ah well, either way. *finds a copy of Les Miserables on the shelf - heads over to the fireplace to read it* |
Ugh screaming kids. -_- They throw off my reading so often at work.
|
They make the job quite difficult, I have to say. When they're not around and distracting me, making me do whatever I'm doing AND try to get them to shut up at the same time...my work is 99.9% error-free. When they do come in and start getting like that, however...
Lets just say the county doesn't like those kids either. If there were another library they could go to in our town, there are a good few who would be permanently banned from ours by now. |
Comes in and starts gathering the discarded books and reshelves them properly. "Hello all how has your day been so far?
|
*Wanders in and begins looking through the bookshelves for something to read*
Hello everyone who's here. Hello, Saiyana. My day is good thus far, thank you. How is yours? |
I just had a nice long bath and washed my hair I need to eat something else yet.
|
Saiyana: Er... perhaps you should go find something then?
|
Oh, Ellen Hopkins. Why must your books be so incredibly depressing? Spent my morning reading her latest book, it was horribly upsetting. A good thing, too, it was about teen prostitution, so a book that opens people's eyes and makes them whent to reach out do something for those teens-and adults- in that situation is really wonderful.
|
That sounds... fasciating... O_o
|
Fascinating indeed. o_o I'll have to look into her books sometime. I don't know if we have them in the library where I work (we might...I think I may have seen one or two), but if not, I can always find them one way or another.
I love books that are depressing for a reason. |
I will I wanted tp get enterd into Festive Frocks first I it's down now.
|
I understand that. Books with a message, that make you think and what to do something because of the emotion what you've read has stirred in you. Especially in books where you connect with the characters.
I love books like that. |
Ellen Hopkins is a really excellent writer. My favorites of hers are Impulse and Identical, the once I just finished was Tricks. In all of her books, she adresses issues that people like to turn blind eyes to in favor of topics that are easier to stomach. They're all written in poetry form from the point of view of one or several teenage characters (three of her books have one narrator, one has two, one has three, and one has five), and create lots of sympathy and insight into the way some people feel they have to live. She's written about drug abuse, sexual/verbal/physical/emotional abuse, prostitution, suicide, and extreme depression, all without making them typical teen angst books.
What I feel her books do more than anything is bring attention to these issues and put them in a light that makes it easer to understand how anyone can become a victim of certain lifestyles, not just a certain sterotype. That in turn raises awareness and the desire to do something about it- which is really what the end result of a book about such things should be. ...If that makes any sense. o_o |
She sounds like an interesting and excellent writing, other than her format. I prefer books and novels in prose to poetry, unless it's a book of poetry.
|
I do as well, but she just does an excellent job with it.
|
Well, I suppose if they know what they're doing with it, then maybe... *shrugs*
What's your favorite by her that you read? |
*walked in in the middle of a discussion* Oh...Hello. *wanders off into the stacks*
