*finds a book and curls up by the fireplace, snuggling with her plushie and reads*
Well I think one of my favorite authors is Anne McCaffrey
Saiyana: I haven't read any of her works... Care toexplain a bit about her/her style?
Ananas- I'd have to say Impulse and Identical. Impulse was about three teenages who met at a sort of rehabilitation facility for teens that had attempted suicide, and Identical was about twin sisters, one of which was being sexually abused by their father. Identical was an extremely interesting book, and really well woven together, whereas Impulse did a great job of following the characters' emotion recovery- and lack of it. She's not one of my favorite authors, but Ellen Hopkins is good as what she does.
Hello, Manic and Fire. :) Saiyana- I've not read anything by her, but do really need to. Do you have a favorite book by her? |
Snickers, as she works her way to the horror section.
*looks up from book* Hello Iltu. *goes back to reading*
Sorry, I have to leave actually. Just felt like making a few last posts. Besides, I rather like the library. ^_^ See you all later. |
Ah yes, the horror section.... *wanders in that direction*
Itlu: I might have to look into those... But, then again, as I've said, I'd prefer prose...
I've not read much horror yet, but I do love Dean Koontz's books. His books are fun to read at one in the morning when the whole house is quiet and you're the only one up.
Ananas- I completely understand. The only reason I read them myself was because a friend of mine insisted I read Impulse and practically shoved it down my throat. Then I liked it so much that I went looking for her other books. |
Dean Koontz is quite fun. *going about the stacks, plucking books off the shelves*
McCaffrey is sci fi writer, but she writes about interpersonal relationships. Her biggest series is Dragonriders of Pern there's a companion series The Dragonsinger and then several sequels and prequels. it really depends on wheterh you want to read them as written or in a straight timeline.
you look like a bride, Saiyana! so pretty :D (sorry pretty random lol)
I'm actually dressed as Santa Lucia the Scandinavian snow maiden
must be a beautiful person then X3
this thread is giving me some trouble ><; trying to read up the page and its glitching out, whose the writer of those Impulse books someone mentioned? they seemed interesting Edit: ah the name is Ellen Hopkins finally found it. silly thread! |
Itlu I love all the Dragonrider books. But the first book was "Dragonflight" followed by "Dragonquest" then" The White Dragon". It is published in a trilogy titled "The Dragonriders of Pern" that contains all three books. Then the Dragonsinger/harper hall Trilogy is an interconnected paralell story line.
Nessie- Do let me know what you think if you end up reading them!
Saiyana- Okay, it's those Dragonriders of Pern books I've heard the most about. Thanks for letting me know the proper order. :) |
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, I stll reread them every once and awhile. the Pern series is very popular. >.< I really think the kid that wrote Eragon stuff ripped off McCaffrey. You can't convince me otherwise there are just too many similarites.
I love Christopher Paloini's work, I think he's a very talented writer. I do see a lot of elements of other books in his, however, so I'll be looking for those similarities!
I think a part of it, however, is that it's just so hard to come up with something completely original in this day and age. You're bound to have elements from other works in your own writing that you weren't even away you borrowed. I'm writing a book myself, and I'm noticing a lot of similarities to Diana Wynne Jones' writing style and even ideas as I review things several times, which is making me rather nervous. It's not something I recognize as I write. |
Perhaps but his are blatantly obvious to anyone that knows McCaffrey's work.
Ohh Kai! You're so pretty!
::puts down Silmarillion:: I just finished the part that's actually about the Silmarils. It was rather slow, but then Tolkien tends to be slow, period. No, I'm not bashing on him. I loved the Fellowship (and that was all I got to read before all the stupid hype about the movies). But he's just slow. And I haven't read Eragon, so I can't say there. Have no interest in reading it, really. |
Personally, I love Darren Shan's work. His writing may not be the most advanced, but he can still invoke emotion to the highest degree and his Demonata and Cirque Du Freak are fairly original, I think. I don't know, I haven't been able to read many books. I tend to be afraid of trying new things, because I REALLY don't want to say I've ever read a boring book. I hold literature too highly. Maybe when I strike out on my own, when my world changes, I'll try something new as far as novels go.
*pokes his head in* Hmm... this looks like a nice, quiet place so far.
Hey Abel nice to see you this Holiday season :) Did you enjoy the snow ball fight?
Alex peeks around and notices Cain. "Hello. I don't believe we've met! My name's Alex." She smiles and waves politely.
Ah, hello again, Soul. Yes, I did enjoy myself. *looks a little smug*
Nice to meet you, Alex. *waves back* Please, call me Abel. |
