[130] Exactly, why owe money for something that you don't want to do, or won't benefit you. Nowadays employers look for experience over qualification. I'm not at uni. Young people need time to find out what they want to do before they commit to a 4 year long money sucking education which they might drop out of and still owe thousands.

And to what citrus said: you are right in terms of if you wanted to be a Doctor or a Lawyer. But if you aren't 100% on that, then there is a high probability that you are going to quit or make yourself feel horrible all the way through.

I'm mostly screwed over by the fact the Graphic Design world doesn't seem to want entry level people atm :x

Or it's Web Design, which I won't claim to be comfortable with XD

@Star: Thanks :) I have a really wide frame so to be honest I won't get much skinnier, I just look like a total tank haha. Aw, I'm sure that's not true :')

@Luna: That's my thoughts exactly. I don't like college this year and I really want to drop out and go travelling and when I said that to my mum she was just like "Eh no, you're sticking at it and going to uni!" and then I was telling my aunt that I didn't want to go to uni and I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life and my mum overheard and said the exact same thing. My dad's always told me he wanted me to go to uni and make him proud, and he'd be really sad if I never went because he knows I have the brains to do it and I could be whatever I wanted. So I'm sort of up against a rock and a hard place because I want to make them happy but again I don't think doing that would make me happy because I'm not an overly studious person. :/

I don't think I have the grades to do law, so I'm doing Criminology in uni. I need to re-look at uni choices though and then see if my UCAS choices are definite.

I was fortunate years ago to get a job right out of college.
Then I worked for that same company for over 32 years.

That's something that's pretty unheard of nowadays...

[131] To be honest, I think your parents are sending you down the wrong brain wavelength. Their first priority should be your happiness. I have the brains to do it too, but I dropped out of college and didn't go to Uni (of course I couldn't after not doing college). Although I feel a little sad that I can never go, I know it wasn't the right thing for me and I'm glad I didn't put myself through it. What did your Aunt say, or did she not get chance to express another opinion? :o The fact that parents can manipulate children into doing something just for basically the fact that 'they didn't get the chance' so they want their children to be a reflection of their regretted choices being fulfilled is kind of reminiscent of Toddlers and Tiaras....

It's tough thing, Vinyl.

It's great that your parents can send you to school.
I had to work my way through and take out tons of loans.

If I hadn't gone to school, I would have been sunk...there was no way I would have been able to support myself without a job. Travelling would have been entirely out of the question.

My aunt said that I should do whatever it is that makes me happy in life. She could have stayed in school and gone to university and done something but she didn't know what it was she wanted out of life. She said that she didn't think about anyone else but herself and what she wanted when she moved down to Edinburgh to live with her boyfriend (they've been married ten years and have four children) and it worked out for her, so she said that I should do the same. My mum moaned at her for saying that though because that's not what she wants for me.

To be honest, I have no idea what I want to do. One part of me just wants to run away and do what I want and start a new life somewhere else, but the other part of me wants to go to uni just so I don't make them sad. Parents suck. My mum and dad are so cool about everything else, I guess they have to be "parenty" about something >.>

@Jean: My parents can't afford to send me to uni though, that's the thing. In Scotland you get your fees paid for you, but I'm still going to have to take out loans to survive and by the end of my degree I'm going to be in around 27K of debt and if I decide to do a masters it's going to be even more

How are you going to be able to afford to travel if you do that instead of going to school?

My step daughter didn't want to go to school either, until she took a minimum wage job during the summer flipping burgers.
She quickly realized she didn't want to be doing that for the rest of her life.

@Star: Aw, I'm sorry I don't know how much I weigh, but most of my weight is muscle. The only proper tubby bit is my belly

@Jean: I've got money saved which I'm supposed to use for uni and I can do bits and bobs on the road to earn more money.

I've done the 9 to 5 job too, and I didn't want to do that. However there's no guarantee that I'll want to do the job that my degree gets me either. I don't want to settle down. I'm a flighty person my nature, I want to explore everything there is and have adventures. I know it's not realistic, but that's my dream.

I should be walking more too, Star.
In the summer it's too hot. Then it just gets too cold.

I need that "just right" temperature! Right around 70 degrees I think...

Walking is only good exercise if you're body's not used to it. Unless it raises your heart rate your body won't think it's exerting energy and therefore burn calories. Have you thought about swimming? Since you're in water it won't hurt your knees :)
