Yeah, I've been trying to get into a conversation. But every time I find a thread everyone is already in a conversation and I just feel like a derp because I don't know what to say and I don't want to just butt into their convo.

Oh pshh no one cares if you butt into the conversation so long as you have something to contribute to it. Around here on menewsha people are just happy to see new faces pop in and say "hi" or something. The only way you don't get interaction on here is if you don't seek out threads in the first place.
