I once broke a live snail's shell just to see what it looked like without it....I don't know if that counts as animal cruelty but my excuse now is that I was too little/young to know any better.

I have never seen a snail without it's shell... I would always try to avoid stepping on them at all cost because they're cute

basically what I learnt from that one time breaking the snail's shell, was that inside the shell is essentially a piece of flesh the shape of the shell.
