I'm very good with dialogue and creating tension and intrigue in little things. The big things lose me though I used to do all that. It's why my sci-fi fic is so hard. It's an alien invasion! It's all war and death!

night Cloud.
I think I'm heading off soon too.

Haha, i guess our tastes change. I've been pretty stuck on the action and fantasy for a while, since i started reading Raymond E Feist.

But then he does take time before battle scenes. He writes pages and pages of tactics and politics and character development before jumping in, so it does build tension, but it does bore me at times too.

He had a whole book pretty much just planning for a war, but then the next book was FULL OF BATTLES, so i think it was worth the wait, at least then i knew who i wanted to win, right? xD

I'm in the writing and reading for the characters so sometimes, I feel like who cares about the plot? They could be shopping at Walmart for all I care as long as their the bleeding best characters out there. If there's a lot of action going on? Fine. I'm more than willing to do it as long as the character is very invested in it. I do most of my writing very close to the characters head, like seeing their thoughts and just...being close with them. Some writers have more distance when they write, but the distance is hard for me.

I agree completely with Kat on this one, the biggest thing (in my mind) when roleplaying is character development; all of the plot is there mainly to develop the characters on a deeper level. I tend to overdo my characters thoughts at times, revealing bits of information that I really shouldn't say outright but rather show via actions towards others. Even when reading books it's more about the characters to me than the situations they're in.

Oh yeah i get you there Kat, if they're not developed properly it's hard to take their side when the action/drama starts, i feel anyway.

I do need to get better at WRITING character development though, i tend to be more in the background, knowing how i feel about them but failing to put that across to the reader because i can't find the right words, but yeah, i don't mind so much reading it, providing it doesnt take too long xD

I think the plot is important too (though maybe less so if it's a romance novel). I do like to do indirect character development through other character's thoughts and not saying emotions out, but showing them. But I think some of the most iconic tales that people remember and always hold dear are that way because of a character. Character's that define a genre and all that.

Problem i get with fandom/fanfics is that i struggle to think of a plot that isnt the same as the real thing xD

I like to imagine and create my own stuff, so its hard to use a setting or person already created, but thats just me, i have a carazee imagination xD

And i seriously over think ideas too lol, i can't just make a simple character, she's got to be an orphan that was trained to become a thief before realising she had magical powers then trying to take the throne xDDD

(total exaggeration there but you get it right?)

I could never come up with fandom plots until Hetalia. I come up with dozens no issue. The anime doesn't have so much of a story arc, so there's a lot of freedom. Any genre suits it with a little tweak. I doubt I could fandom rp anything else and I've never found a hetalia partner.

and seriously, I'm going to sleep/

Oh yeah, a good character makes a good story, definitely, i certainly have my favourites there.

My username is from one of my favourite characters from Titus Andronicus the Shakespeare play, she hardly spoke because she was attacked, then had her tongue cut out and her hands cut off so she couldn't say or write who did it.

But then, i loved her because of how she was perceived more than what she said, how titus spoke highly of her and how much you felt sorry for her now she was no longer pure, so beautifully tragic D=

But in romance it definitely takes good character development to win me over rather than plot. If i feel bad for them when the drama starts i'm nearly screaming at the pages to help her out xD

I dislike fandoms mainly because they put restrictions on characters and abilities. Yes, abilities do need to be well balanced, however a characters abilities and how they use them help to define who they are and how they think. Limiting yourself to a pre-established world with pre-established rules will ultimately alter your character (which is fine if you're looking to play someone new, but I personally prefer to play "myself").

Aye liquid, i do like creating original characters but i have a few ready made now so i need to put them in a setting that suits them, and usually thats my own creation too, my medieval world.

Although in the RP i'm doing my medieval characters are having to travel to ancient egypt, which is interesting...we shall see tomorrow when they get there xD

What do you mean, play 'yourself'? I used to hate the limitation, but having limits can be very rewarding as a writer. I did a lot of exercises to that effect in my writing classes.

lol...then go to sleep Lavi!

Aah, I see. I haven't read that play yet. Shakespeare is always good.
When I see your name, I always think of a novel I read which is simply called Lavinia, by Ursula k. Le Guin. Have you read it?

By playing myself, I mean that I put myself into the characters situation and react how I (think) I would react. Obviously I take into account situations in their past that may alter the way they think, but the majority of the time it's based on who I am as a person.

That seems plausible Liquid, i tend to try my best NOT to put myself in there, but i am trying haha.

I've been playing so many male characters recently as they seem to be the leads in medieval stories, but i've just created a female rogue so i think i'm in her a little bit. She likes to joke and fob things off as not too serious and thats me, but she always craves approval from her master and well...she's a thief and a master at throwing daggers xD

Different people have different methods. xD -shrugs- I get immersed easier if I feel at home in my character, and I often find my own natural reactions to situations in a roleplay surprising (I've learned a lot about myself through things I've never actually done xD).

I guess i like to challenge myself when im writing, i do struggle a bit with the action scenes but that makes me want to do it more often so i get better :)

I could write dialog forever if i wanted to stay in my comfort zone, but who gets better than way?

---------- Post added 10-30-2014 at 07:59 AM ----------

right, i think i should definitely get to sleep now xD
