- well, they do... sort of. neither are really beans. They're both dried fruits of trees.

The coffee bean is the actual bean. They do not use the fruit. The fruit has too much tanin to really be used. So technically, they used the bean; it's the cotyledons that they use, which are the sides of the bean basically. :) That's why coffee beans look as if they ought to fit together; because they do, they're the two halves. XD
