That's just because you're not seeing that it
is art. See, even when you do a standalone piece, if you feature a character, than that character still has a story to tell of some sort. Same with OCs... if you do commissions for them, then the person just pays for your services and for the art.... but essentially they are paying you for time + materials + personal style.
Since you're working in traditional material, I would probably suggest to you to start out at around $10-15 dollars, especially if the piece is a full 8 1/2 x 11, etc. People sell
prints for that much. O_O Though, prints have also finally gotten cheaper. =dies= Still, if you try doing IRL comms, $10-15 is a really good starting price to get your feet wet. You can adjust the price due to complexity, backgrounds, etc.
