@Siri - Hopefully you can be there for the one tonight?

@Lejic - Nuuu! And here I was being sneaky. ^_~ I'm good. Trying to wait out my last 20 min. on power hour before I go eat. You?

Siri 05-30-2010 05:22 PM

Yup, I'm going to try to make it to that one.

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:22 PM

@Siri: Ah I see. I find it so confusing when people call high school exams finals. I mean yes, they are the final exam of the year for the subject, but for some reason, to me, Finals mean college finals. I make no sense, I know. =P

@Torr: Well, I clicked my power-hour just to see how many hours I had to wait still, and it activated. I was like "honoes."
I didn't think it waited 12 hours this time. D: Because I'm SURE I wasn't on 12 hours ago (yay sleep) and I used it when I woke up.

Siri 05-30-2010 05:23 PM

What do you mean? Aren't high school finals just the same as college finals? xD;
I know they're easier... but they're still hard for high school students.

Torrinne 05-30-2010 05:24 PM

I just found out that apparently it resets at noon and midnight, no matter when you start it. I had thought it was a certain number of hours too.

Siri 05-30-2010 05:24 PM

Oh, maybe they changed it then? I thought it was 12 hours from when you activated it too.

Torrinne 05-30-2010 05:26 PM

That's what Belly was telling us in the trivia thread. I dunno, I usually only use it once a day because I forget about it. ^_^"

Siri 05-30-2010 05:26 PM

I use it once a day as well. I haven't had as much time to go on Mene. :(

Torrinne 05-30-2010 05:27 PM

Me neither. -grumblegrumble- Seems like events always happen when I'm busiest.

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:27 PM

@Siri: Nono I mean like... In college, you (almost always) get a midterm and a final for the subjects. And in high schools, at least here in Turkey, you have your oral tests, your quizes, your homeworks or whatever the teacher feels like and they affect your grade as much as the teacher wants. Like, if a high school teacher only does one midterm and one final, she can calculate the grade by giving each of them a 50% weight. While in college, you can't do that. Finals HAVE to have more weight than the midterm.
I just...I don't know. They just don't FEEL final-y in high school. XD I had good grades in high school but the thing is, the final exam was never scarier than the earlier exams and generally it included only the final part of the course, not all of it (like it does in college).

But I digress.

It's just a feeling I guess. 8D;;; *silly*

@Torr: Oh but I live in Turkey and it would be weird if it set off at the same time for everybody. Wouldn't that be inconvenient for people in timezones where the midnight and noon for the US is weird times for them?

Siri 05-30-2010 05:30 PM

Oh, I think it's much different here then. :o

Our high school finals aren't worth 50% of our grade, but they are cumulative and still worth a huge chunk of your final grade. I remember freaking out during winter break and spring break because I was busy studying for finals during high school.

Torrinne 05-30-2010 05:35 PM

I would think so, but that's what I've been told. -shrugs- It seems silly to me, but I'm not the one who makes these things up.

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:39 PM

@Siri: Heh, that's odd I guess. But then again, our systems are very different. ^^

@Torr: Mmm. This event seems so cool, but there are some things that could be better for sure. That's always the case with anything though. :3 I like this event because it almost forces you to participate. XD

Siri 05-30-2010 05:40 PM

I'm having so much fun with this event.
I haven't been active on Mene for a while, so it's been great to finally get back on it. :)

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:41 PM

Same here Siri; my school has been killing me this semester so I wasn't able to log on much; this event coincided with me having some free time which is amazing, heheee. <3 Mene is awesome during events!

Siri 05-30-2010 05:43 PM

Lol, you have free time right in the middle of finals? xD;

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:45 PM

I do, actually. XD First of all there are no classes. And I mean, yeah studying is cool and time-consuming, but nobody studies for like 18 hours a day, I don't think. :P
So I have at least like 2 hours to log on mene that I don't have during the semester because I have loads of homework, classes to get to, papers to read, research to do and errands to run for the professors. And, well, pass out from exhaustion! Haha.

The finals are basically my most relaxed time. The only real vacation I'll have will be 6 days after the finals. Then we go to a work camp thing with my class for 10 days. Then my internships start. Then 7 days off on September, and then Fall semester starts.

When you look at that kind of schedule, the final weeks aren't so bad. :P :heart:

Siri 05-30-2010 05:48 PM

Haha, lol. I'm actually one of those people that can study for 18 hours a day.
But I guess that's because I'll go out with friends and waste an entire weekend when I should be studying. xD;
Then I need to make up for that lost study timesomehow... usually during finals week.

You're so lucky to have something to do this summer!
I've been looking for a job, but the economy sucks so no one will take me for the summer.
To top things off, I'm not eligible for any internships because I'm not an undergrad anymore and I won't be a grad student until I start school this August.
I've been so bored! ;____;

Lejic 05-30-2010 05:55 PM

I can't do the 18 hour thing at all. But even the people who do usually get a few days off during the finals week. Because we have an entire week off before they start, and then the finals are done in two weeks. For example, I have/had, from the last Friday of school, 9 days off and then 3 finals in one week, then 3 other finals on the next week. So that's like 3 weeks for 6 finals. XD

The internships here almost never pay. 8D;; My two won't pay either. One will be at my university and one at a firm.
And um; here our teachers are nice and sometimes get us internships on our senior year, telling the firms that we're totally undergrads still. >___> So we um, sort of "avoid the truth" and get internships even during the summer between undergrad and grad school! XD

Siri 05-30-2010 05:58 PM

Haha, that's awesome then! x)
I'm going to go volunteer at a Wildlife Clinic for the rest of the summer.

It's unpaid, but my internships have all been unpaid as well.
I think only engineering and business internships pay. For me, only work has paid. For internships, you just get experience and sometimes, if you're lucky, class credit.

Lejic 05-30-2010 06:01 PM

Ooooh that sounds so awesome! *_*

And um, I'm an engineer, and that doesn't help me get paid, haha. I don't mind though. We're required to do at least 3 months' worth of internships (60 work days) to graduate, but we don't get actual credits for them.

Siri 05-30-2010 06:03 PM

Aww that sucks. You'd get paid for internships in the U.S.
My brother had some awesome internships. Xb

He actually was paid more in some of his internships than I was in my jobs.

Lejic 05-30-2010 06:08 PM

Well, I suppose here they get away with as much free labor as they can. My last internship didn't even pay for lunch AND most of the days I didn't get a lunch break anyway, which I'm almost sure is illegal. But I had to do it, with the obligation for graduation and all that. 6_6;

Edit: Oh wow Siri changed. Nice, event themed outfit you have there! ;]

Edit #2: Hatake I totally saw you lurking. :ninja:

And I'm off to shower and do my facial mask, etc. Be back in an hour. <3

And thank you. ^^

@Suona: Awww, you look like a pretty grandma, haha. XD

Edit:
And yes, this was the longest afk ever. >_>; I went with my mom to buy groceries and things just got out of hand (we went to the mall, had lunch, etc.).

Haha. Does she look like a gardener at all? Trying to make a unique gardener avi for the contest, without looking like everyone else. ><;;

Lejic 05-30-2010 07:27 PM

She does look like a gardner! That's why I thought she wasn't just a chick with white hair but an old lady; she looks like an old lady working on her garden. :3 I can totally see her digging and planting roses!
