Sorry for disappearing guys! Just applied online to borders! xD

Lol, being a server you have to deal with a lot of crap but it was fun.

Thank you RainbowMuffinage! ^^ And yep! PJ is my favorite event

Siri 05-24-2010 06:12 PM

@Seiki: I feel gypped. We start in August too. D:

@Keyori: You're lucky that you have a job. I've been applying for summer work everywhere.
But no luck! ;___;

Knerd 05-24-2010 06:12 PM

It's more of a southern thing - Most northern schools still operate on an agricultural schedule, which means that kids are off during the prime growing season of mid-June to early September. :yes:

Motoko 05-24-2010 06:13 PM

I haven't been in school for a few years lol.

Suona 05-24-2010 06:13 PM

Here the schools start in late August and end the second week of June.

Siri 05-24-2010 06:13 PM

@Knerd: Wow, that's pretty insightful. I've never thought about that.
I guess it's because I'm from the city. xD

Seiki Nova 05-24-2010 06:14 PM

Is that it Knerd? Go figure.

You should be more amazed. That blew my mind.

Suona 05-24-2010 06:14 PM

We should do that here, because we're major agriculture, but our school doesn't do that. So the first few weeks of school are hectic for some of the students. :x

Keyori 05-24-2010 06:15 PM

The high schools don't get out for another two weeks, I found out xD

Though, they get a lot of time off during the school year, where I don't. I get less than two full weeks of vacation any given semester :/

Siri 05-24-2010 06:16 PM

I could never work on a farm. I realized I wasn't cut out for it when I had to work at a dairy farm for a semester.
I died a little each day when I had to show up for work at 4am. ;____;

Winterwolfgoddess 05-24-2010 06:16 PM

lol, i do not know when the highschools around here get out. I think this may be the last week? dunno. xD

But I start my summer classes June 24th T_T.

Keyori 05-24-2010 06:16 PM

Why did you decide to work on a dairy farm? o3o

Siri 05-24-2010 06:18 PM

@Keyori: I needed large animal experience before applying to Vet School.
And believe me, I quit as soon as I could.

@Winter: Aww, I'm sorry you have to be in summer school. My sister signed up for it too.
I'm a little bit jealous though because it's really boring for me now. I can't find work and I can't do anything for school until next summer (since I'm between undergrad and grad school).

Suona 05-24-2010 06:18 PM

I've never done the agriculture stuff and I refused to be in FFA. Most of the FFA in my highschool were twits and irritating. >_>

Keyori 05-24-2010 06:18 PM

Lol, fair enough.

If I did vet school, I guess I'd just intern with the vets here. Most of them do equine work.

My vet is awesome. He talks to my cats.

Suona 05-24-2010 06:20 PM

I wanted to be a vet for a very long time, but I decided that I didn't want to work just with domestic animals (I get really bored with peoples obsessions with just cats and dogs.) and that i'd be depressed in working with sick and dieing animals all the time. I know that that is totally not the only animals that come in, but the ones that did would make me sad. I hate seeing animals hurt or in pain.

I've instead decided to major in Zoology. :] I hope that I'll one day be able to do things to help the endangered animals and to protect the exotic animals and to work with them. I think that would be amazing.

Motoko 05-24-2010 06:21 PM

So if I may ask what's this event like if anyone knows since I have never seen it before

Siri 05-24-2010 06:22 PM

@Keyori: I did shadow some equine vets, but I don't think it would have been enough hours so I got that job. :3
And I talk to cats all the time. :D

I have a cat voice to speak to them, but sometimes I'm like... 'To hell with it' and I just meow at them.

@Suona: Awesome, that would be so cool! I actually majored in biology because I wanted to work with wildlife before I made my decision to go to vet school. But I'm still doing it--I volunteer at our local wildlife clinic and help rehabilitate injured wildlife. :D

You should apply for all the zoo internships in your area. I've never done one, but everyone I know who did it LOVED it. :D

Winterwolfgoddess 05-24-2010 06:22 PM

Siri- Well, I do not mind taking summer classes but it is communications and humanities. xD
Humanities I am so-so on. Communications is going to be a nightmare though. xD
But I have to take them.

But atleast I get to take classes I want to in the fall <3

Keyori 05-24-2010 06:22 PM

Zoology would be neat o3o

I'd totally like to be a vet... but the cost of school is too high compared to the median salary. ]:

I want to run a cat sanctuary one day though. Buy up a bunch of land and do tag and release on the property.

And I totally talk to my cats, but the way my vet talks is kinda weird... like he'll check their teeth and then go "Oh I'm so sorry that made you uncomfortable that was so mean of me."

I think I've heard it somewhere before so it didn't sound that shocking. :yes:

Suona 05-24-2010 06:25 PM

I wouldn't know either.
I've yet to be here for a Phoenix Jubilee event. lol

@ Siri - That sounds awesome!
I'm hoping to volunteer at a wildlife refuge that is somewhat in the area. Its a town or so over, but I need to find out where they moved to. Somebody told me that they should be moving near my current college, so that would be awesome. They take care of so many kinds of animals. Last time I was there they had lions and tigers and a panther and so many kinds of animals. And they're just right there in these kennel cage things. You have to stay away from being near it, though, of course. lol The panther was watching my little cousin very closely when we went.

Sadly the closest actual zoo to me is an hour away. :x So I wont be able to do that. But i'm currently at my community college, so once I transfer to the university and start majoring in Zoology, I probably will. They have a zoo in like the next town over from my Uni. Haha. Should be awesome! I'm so excited to go there. 8D;;

Siri 05-24-2010 06:25 PM

LOL, I did not realize I used so many smileys in my last post. xD

@Keyori: The median salary is low because large animal veterinarians don't make any money. Veterinarians in other areas do very well. I dunno.. maybe you should still consider it?

Lol, that's hilarious. The best veterinarians have a good sense of humor, so it's all good. x)

@Seiki: Psh, whatever. Know-it-all.

Suona 05-24-2010 06:26 PM

I really enjoy that there are a few animal lovers on here
I know very few people in rl that want to work with animals, so I can't really talk much about it. My friends get irritated if I start spewing out animal facts. lol
