My husband recently did that for my laptop.
It seems so much faster now!

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 06:57 PM

Awesome. It's so nice that we can just pop these things open and give them little boosts like that. It would suck if they were machines that you douln't upgrade yourself, like an ipod or something. you just have to buy another one to replace it. :P

TaiyoTsuki 06-05-2010 07:01 PM

Hi guys!

I'm closing my event shop, so today would be a good day to get any art or banners.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:02 PM

Hi Taiyo.

I have a banner shop myself. :D And you know, I'm kind of an art deadbeat. I never buy any :gonk:

jupiter 06-05-2010 07:06 PM

Well, you could purchase a larger hard drive, or even a few more memory cards. The laptop I'm using now has two of them, and it has room for two more. Of course, I have no need for that, so I'm fine with what I've got.

Have you heard about the laptops with those new processors? Oh gosh, it makes me wobbly at the knees to think about them. I'm shooting for an i5 processor with a gateway or a dell laptop.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:07 PM

Hello, Crane! You always look so pretty!

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:08 PM

Hi Crane :D

I don't think a new harddrive will help the speed of my computer. Some memory sticks would be nice, maybe even a new processor! But those are a bit expensive and sometimes your operating system limits its usefulness.

TaiyoTsuki 06-05-2010 07:10 PM

Like how you can't to anything on Vista without some new bug screwing up your computer?

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:14 PM

I'm using my aunt's laptop right now and it has vista. Driving me crazy!

When my brother ordered his new computer, he wanted to have XP, but he was ordering a super powered gaming computer and with all the processing speed he had, XP wouldn't realy handle it well, so he was forced to get Vista at the time.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:17 PM

I will never go to Vista.
My next operating system will be Windows 7.

Currently I have XP.

jupiter 06-05-2010 07:17 PM

I've gotten used to Vista, so I know how to get around it.
Ah, if speed is what you're looking for, then you'll need a new processor.

Or, you can use the task manager to close a lot of the processes. That way your computer starts up quickly, smoothly, and isn't overworked with every little program you downloaded.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:19 PM

I downgraded from Vista to XP on my desktop. I just hated it too much to deal with it. My friends who decided to live with Vista still hate it. ^_^;;

We shall see what we do with my computer. It's not that it's running super slow. It's more that the technology of the web makes it run slower. Flash games and such only run ok on it. =/

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:23 PM

Our problem with Vista was that we couldn't attach our scanners to it.
They did not have drivers available.

jupiter 06-05-2010 07:25 PM

The scanner didn't come with its own driver disc?

I have an old Gateway (probably about a decade old) that runs alright with them. It has slowed up now, but still runs beautifully.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:27 PM

That's weird. Even if you don't have a drivers disk, Windows is usually able to hunt down a driver. I have hunted down all the drivers for my peripherals and put them on a disk just in case.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:27 PM

It was an older scanner, Crane.
The company was no longer making drivers, and Vista required all new drivers.
Most peripherals would not connect to Vista, where they did to the XP.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:28 PM

Ah, well that's rather annoying. Why replace your old faithful equipment when you can just replace Vista? XD

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:34 PM

That is true!
That is exactly what my husband did.

Since then however, we have decided we need a better scanner, so I think that is why we will go with Windows 7 on our next computer. We can then get a new scanner.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:40 PM

I have to wonder what Windows next Operating System will be like, if they can really avoid another train wreck like with Vista. I hear that Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be, but even then not everyone cares for it. They feel like it's been too dumbed down and holds your hand through everything.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:43 PM

Yes, I do not want my computer telling me what to do.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:47 PM

Unfortunately, lots of people need their computer to hold their hand and wipe their bum for them -_-;

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:49 PM

`laughs`
Unfortunately.

For-Chan Cookie 06-05-2010 07:51 PM

And I think that's why Vista exists. Microsoft dumbed it down too much and all the competent people HATED it! I guess 7 is the balance between too dumb and too smart? XD

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 07:55 PM

I certainly hope so.
